Well flying through low security space (.04) and some perp starts attacking me, I make haste to the stargate to jump and begin firing back, I'm not doing all that well, kinda holding my own, but i am getting to the gate. THEN GUESS WHAT HAPPENS. I can't FREAKING Jump. So i die(a friend comes in and helps him finish me) I talk to my killer, who also podded me(Yea I couldn't FREAKING jump in my pod also). Come to Find out, once you attack someone, the gates shutdown. I REALLY WISH I KNEW THIS FREAKING INFORMATION BEFORE HAND. (/rant off) PS. I tried to warp, But that wasn't happening also.
So what i would like to know is where this information is. I get rather Tired learning things about this game the hard way. I downloaded the game, I read the new player's guide, did i miss it. And while we're on the subject Why in the Heck are the gates shutdown when you are defending yourself. I pay 14.95 a month for enjoyment and entertainment. I don't pay it for (IMHO) Stupid Laws that helps peeps kill people, nor do i pay it for the CTD that seems to be happening all the time since i installed the patch(i did the cashe thing, btw) Well this is it, i'm turning in me papers as normal pilot and becoming newb care bear pilot. I'll stay in High security space and just do missions. Flame me, I prolly deserve it, i just get so tired of finding things out the hard way. the law is supposed to help u, not hurt u.

It's a hard lesson to learn.
Here's another - Stations wont let you dock in the same situation.
Gates dont let you jump precisely to prevent what you tried. You had a ***** at a guy - realised you wouldn't kill him so tried to jump. Harsh but fair imo.
EVE is a complicated universe. A player guide cannot cover all "what-if" scenarios.
Rules of aggression
Try that to get you started^^ It answers some - but not all questions.

Ignoring the stupid comment above me, I don't know where you find that information actually. I remember finding out for the first time too, but I was lucky enough that someone told me before I made a mistake.
Keep in mind that you can also use this to your advantage when running away. Wait for the other person to fire first, then jump through. Do not rturn fire. Then they can't follow.
Oh and everyone here pays for the game, so bringing it ups a bit pointless

it keeps the reverse situation from escaping
i.e. pirate sits on gate you warp to gate, you attack pirate, he starts to fight back, starts getting owned, can not jump thru gate to avoid combat, unless you warp away (not warp scrambled) when you activate modules you are commiting yourself to battle, choose your battles carefully, also pirates that fight fair are not really pirates

Funny - I dont pay to have people fight me just to jump a gate or dock.

last time I checked, guns are now what you use for defence, shields/armor/speed are what you use for defence, guns are what you use for defence.
when sombady atacks you, you can still use shields/armor/speed to defend yourself, and dock/gate after that.
when sombady atacks you and you use offencive mods on him (guns, basicaly, every mod that needs a target locked to work + smartboms etc.) you are showing that you want to enter the fight, since you are atacking him back.
so... if your running, don't go gunning.

different rules apply between eve and real life.

You fire back with your 7.65mm and end up killing the man who shot you, escaping with only a small bullet wound to the leg.

Not where I live. If my life is threatened (this being the key) in the middle of a mall and I have a permit for my weapon I am legally protected if I shoot the assailent to death, absolutly zero penalty for it. Florida 4tw!

anyway, Eve rules > rl rules.
If you play a game, familiarise yourself with all the rules, as pionted out theres plenty of new citizen Q&A's, and player guides availible.
Rules are playtested and developed to help new players cope better, they're designed with gameplay in mind, not your rl beleifs or 'rights'

Op.. Unfortunately this non jump/dock was bought in because the griefer brigades used to use it as a means of cheap escape all too often.
Basicaly it's more of a help to you in all reality.. they fire, they can't follow you... if your at an unfair advantage to fight (which you probaly will be) then you have the option to run. (do so.. because even if you only see one.. others will probaly be aligned to warp in)
And ps.. save yourself any bashing... don't mention the 14.95 a month ect... the regular haters and forum lamers will just jump on you
