Ok, Bear with me here.
In alot of other games, Freelancer, Jupiter: The nexus Incident, Ect ect, Certain weapons to more damage to sheilds than armour/hull and Vice versa.
So a proposal.
Energy Weapons Would Do More Damage to Sheilds and not AS much to Armour.
Hybrid Weapons Would do More Damage to Armour than Sheilds.
Projectile Weapons would Do a Equal Damage to all types but damage output would be lowered overall.
Missiles would Be Alot more to Armour and Almost Nothing to sheilds.
Ammo would Be changed so that Instead of changing Dmg to various types, it instead Modifyed Range by alot.
I KNOW THIS IS A RADICAL CHANGE But it would be More realistic.
This would Reduce the Popularity of a massive fleet of omgwtfgankageddons just murdering everything. You would have to use a Mixed fleet. Also this would cut down on Solo Piracy. Nothing in this game should be Possible to its maxiumum Potential Solo.

This is already how it works. Go look at base armor/sheld resists and base weapon damage types.

Edited by: Neoscar on 13/08/2005 19:44:14 This is already the case: Look at the damage info on your amunition next time you load it, then look at damage resistances on your hull. Most often, shields have no EM Resistance. EM is the primary damage of beams at long range. Thermal (Hybrids and Beams) is effective against both, If I recall corectly. I don't remember the stats for kenetic and explosive, but armor and sheilds have different resistances to different damage types.

Instead they should make tanking more feasible, and that's what t2 hardeners and the new armor plates are for... kinda... Anyway, a big fleet of battlegankships owning everything *is* realistic, isn't it?
