This was one of the best stories ever told in EvE and I had a blast reading through it all:
community.eveonline.com/ingameboard.asp?a=topic&threadID=370209
It details the adventures of Innominate Nightmare who, as a total noob (like an hour old), jumped in a shuttle and headed into 0.0 space with the rule of never being allowed back into high sec.
I reckon a new noob adventure through WH space could be pretty cool but writers like Innominate are rare, plus a true "noob" wouldn't be able to navigate WH space without at least some basic scanning skills. Still, with a few modifications to the rules perhaps a week old character could do it, or perhaps WH space is simply too incompatible with this sort of adventure.
One of the things that made Innominate's journey stand out was that, contrary to popular opinion, quite a few of the people he met were happy to help him out which made the idea viable. In WH space I wonder if this would still work since there are no stations or local chat and the residents are far more difficult to track down. |

WH space is even more "frontier" like than 0.0 space was back then which is why I'd love someone to try it again. But there'll only be one Innominate Nightmare. |

However i really don't think it is somehow real these days.
Just one example: Innominate jumped into gates and found himself in big gate camp. He said "WoW, nice fleet" and found some friends around. Can you imagine such result these days? I only see one result: 80% of gang haven't seen his message in local and other 20 just want kills. So he insta locked, pointed and killed as long as he uncloaked. |

True you get people camping holes but they tend not to be the crazy stuff seen in null these days. Do you really think players are just more uncaring these days? |

Big problem with WH's is not being able to buy anything.
Read that story a long time ago, but I may just go back and re-read it. Thanks for posting.

I hadn't thought about that. It would certainly make it more of a challenge. Either you would need to somehow trade with the WH dwellers or keep dropping back into null/low sec for supplies. I reckon it could be done though, although I'm not sure what my reaction would be if some noob announced himself in local space in my WH system asking for a shield extender. |

The idea has some extra challenges, i suppose. The only place to refit in w-space is at an sma or an orca, and most people that risk an orca to help a random person in wspace are going to think its a trap. Ammo would be hard to come by, you would need to stick to a pretty badly fit ship to make it viable for one person to do solo, the list goes on For awhile. That said, it might work, but you'd need a lot of luck to pull it off. |

I suppose that if the rule was that you could not leave WH space then it would indeed be very difficult. But innominate was allowed into low sec when the need arose and so our intrepid explorer could perhaps do the same. |

Omg.
I started playing only at 2007, and I've completely missed the whole original story. Thanks for the link OP, best read ever.
I just clicked to check "now what is this supposed to be". Now I'm at page 19. Priceless stuff. |

The main problem of wh space, is the moment you're killed you've lost the ability to scan. This could effectively trap you in wh-space, unless you have a bookmarked route back to normal space, which would ultimately mean you've failed. It was possible for the nightmare bloke because he was able to access new ships via npc stations after being killed. This would be extremely difficult in wh-space. The only option left would be to ask for help from local residence, in the hopes of them giving you a new ship. Considering they'll likely be the ones that denied you of your ship in the first place, this would prove very unlikely.
I guess if you had more than one account, you could ensure your continued ability to scan down new wormholes, increasing your chances of finding a nice wh-corp willing to sell you replacement ships for the accounts on which you've lost ships. Still, it would be a lonely life, and you'd be unable to make any isk.
Though it would be impressive if anyone managed it over a long period. Post with your main, like a BOSS! |
