Had the same problem after the first reboot. Assume they are having similar problems.
Nothing left to do except continue ...... insert one of the following
1) chewing chair leg
2) kick pc
3) shout at wife

It's prolly cos they are limiting the number of players to prevent a recurrence of what prolly caused the slowdown after the first reload. There were over 10k players on before the first one and most of em would be trying to log on again straight away when eve came back up. So they will prolly release more capacity bit by bit to stage peeps logging in.

As long as it is fixed faster than it takes Nipsco to send out a truck to fix something then I'm okay with it =P
Need to remain calm, it's a game, it's a *big* game, and I think they've handled the amount of problems lately far better than most companies I've given money to.

Okay here's the deal.
When the server cluster blows it's brains out ccp has to try and figure out why.. It is extreamly difficult to find out why if, when they start the server bqack up, some 10 thousand plus ppl all try to log in at one time.
CCP set's a reduced maximum connections to allow the server to catch it's breath otherwise it would just keep crashing every 5 minute while 10 thousand plus ppl try to login all at once.
What problem? Who know.. ccp WILL tell us in due time but a few guesses are as follow (based on past experiences):
-Hardware failure: Meaning that a network card, a hardrive, a router, or ano of the other roughly 100 thousand parts that make up the cluster just plain went bad.
-database error: the databse cluster lost sync for whetever reason and is having trouble catching up with itself
-bad hotfix: ccp deployed a hotfix to fix a critical bug (the only reason for a hotfix) and there as an unforceen interaction which blew the server cluster's mind
-gremlin: in WWII it was a well known fact that the germans trained gremlins to climb into the engines or fusulage of allied planes in order to sabatage them
-Space allian: Mayhapse the entire server admin team was kidnapped by aliens and thus nobody is there to make the server go
-dead hamsters: perhapse the hamster who powers the cluster, fell off his wheel and died.
So there you have it. CCP traditionaly increases the cluster limit incrementally over an hour or two untill the server is up to full load-bear capacity and all is well in eve-land.

Well this is my first day on Eve, this is my first post. Must say I'm pretty annoyed at just having entered my credit card details and not being able to play. Oh well.
So is this game like Elite/Frontier? I'm a veteran Everquest player btw, was looking for something a little different. The game looks interesting, if I can get to finally play it.

I like the gremlins theory. I have that problem sometimes myself. Keep the side of your case off so you can spot any potential saboteurs.

Yeah Zolaren, this is basically 3d MMOG Elite. Therefore it rules totally.
I'm former EQ as well, actually about 6 years in a number of SOE games and this is indeed a breath of fresh air. I did the WoW thing between but it was still the same "genre" so became "old hat" shockingly quickly. I needed to get away from sword and sorcery fantasy for a bit.
This is good, 2 weeks in and enjoying it. AO is also cool if you are looking for something "different" though having to constantly manage and upgrade 3 clusters in each of 10 implants plus weapons plus 10 armor slots plus plus...that got to be a chore.
EVE is all about the skill tree. You can skill 24 hours a day playing or not. You can upgrade your ship(s) and equipment but can play for long periods with current setup while working up skills. Not so much of a ratrace.

I also have to say that this is my first day with eve just came from WOW and EQ2 I am hopefull that this problem does not happen all the time. I do not know .... like I said I just started the game. Does it happen all the time? Have there been issues that I don't know about?

lol, poor hamster that fell off the wheel! Well, i went to mow the 2 acre lawn that i have had to go over twice cause of so much rain keeping me from being able to do it, causing it to get way overgrown. First, I started my 42 jumps to sell some commodity's on the market. Hoping i would find myself in the system when i came back in, but nooo. I find out we are having a major "Server Fuster Cluck"!

Welcome aboard then :) And no, this is not a common thing. Although I've only just started this account a few weeks ago, I've been playing that and this is the first I've heard or seen anything like it. So rest assured that this is (hopefully) an isolated incident.

Cluster crashes / unexpected reboots / stuck in station type events have been happening with increasing frequency...
Been around for 4 months and it's pretty darn annoying since the Cold War update.

i keep getting to character sleect screen and then it's a server full cluster. this is retarded considering it was supposed to fix the lag that i didn't even have. hopefully i can get in.
