Edited by: Shamis Orzoz on 17/08/2005 20:15:40 Its very simple. It takes too long to ransom people because convo's take sooo long to open properly(we're talking minutes, not seconds).
A quick ransom requires the use of local, which means anybody else in local will instantly know what you're up to, no matter how clueless they are...not to mention the target in question may not be looking at local at all as he pees his pants...
Please fix, Thanks Shamis

I agree, allthough asking for a ransom in local is fast, it may alert the corp m8s of the victim etc to be alerted too.

What about a 'Ransom' button like the 'Warp to' ones
You can set a default ransom amount, like orbit and warp to...
A window pops up, the person can either accept or not, if they accept the money goes and anyone in gang with the pirate cannot lock the player for xx seconds, if they dont accept they keep fighting.
I dunno, but yeah, would be nice to see more support for this.

And, even if it was exploited (another pirate warps in to kill the ransom victim), those pirates would simply lose their reputation as honest ransomers, and nobody would pay--just like now. -- Proud member of the [23].

I like the Ransom Mechanic idea, and here is my suggestion for options like current convo boxes:
1) Accept Ransom
2) Accept Ransom and Add Ebil Pirate to your Addressbook
3) Decline Ransom
4) In yo face ebil rat!!! *Self Destruct Activates*

Ovreur now thinks:"These f...... pirates made 641 carebears quit the game this month - bas.....!!! That¦s 641 x 12,95 $ every month!!! And now they cry about laggy convos?!?!?"
I did not experience laggy convos. But i would like to see the "strike colors button" to make tollings be part of the game.
And in low sec. systems with gate sentrys, tollings are nearly impossible while sentrys hit you poor BS like a whole fleet volley. I really don¦t even think about a tolling while i loose 1000 hitpoints every second.
And finally: gate piracy and tollings in low sec are restricted to battleships because sentry guns do instatoast a frigate or cruiser. Damage should be lower on frigs and cruisers.
Try a TDG spawn or the TDG complexes in Pure Blind, Syndicate or empire. |

in my experience, the remaining 17.2% seem to think some imaginary savior force will warp in and pwn the pirates before they can be killed... or, in the case of that last .1% think they can win in an osprey fitted with 2 light missle launchers... that one still confuses me.

I love the idea of somthing along the lines of the ransom button, would solve the problems of autoreject also.
However the problem is, as is mentioned above, that this would lose the personal quirks of the pirate in their ransom style, which is part of the fun tbh. Yelling out "stand and deliver or the devil he may take ya" just wouldnt feel the same if a little window popped up or somthing.

Because you want to give the pirate your ship and everything on it?
Seroiusly, I can find no reason for why people would eject in battle, it just doesn't make sense.
btw, /signed
Another really awesome feature would a ransom button with an window to enter an amount that gives the other character a decline or accept option, accept causes a sort of target jam effect on the pirate.
But don't expect ccp to do much to encourage pirating, especially fair pirating.

if i read correctly ( i have this problem where i dont) but one of the first arguements for an easier way to ransom was because they didnt want to say anything in local thus alerting any rescuers to come rescue the victim?

what part of "while in your POD" Did you not understand?? well let me explain thns to you my friend.. when your ship goes boom you are stil alive in your POD. this is when most player rats ask for money, but if you hit eject cuz you dont want to give them the satisfaction of killing you you can eject from your POD and kill yourself... Thats where "while in your POD" came into play.

Hmm... a ransom feature... Interesting. I'm no pirate (I prefer a more even playing field than attacking haulers) but I like the idea because it would encourage more actual PIRATING instead of the "Oooo lets blow people up and peek into their cans" method.
Only issue is how to add it to the interface without it getting in the way of us non-pirates. I'd rather not have my drop-down menus cluttered up with Ransom options. Perhaps make it a toggleable doodad in the Options menu?

That would be pretty nice, quick selfdestruct that doesnt leave any mods alive but doesnt pay out insurance since you caused the loss by yourself.

omg a ransom feature would be awesome. make it like a gang invite, a box pops up asking whether or not you are willing to pay the ransom, if you do, they lose their lock and cant relock you for x amount of time. you could make the ransom option only available (for a pirate to activate) after they've aggroed on you, to prevent it being used by jerks in high sec space, or losers in front of gates just to annoy you.
Check out my idea for a stock market

if this feature would guarantee the victims safe passage(warp to a SS?) after ransom has been paid then that would be a useful feature. would get much more ransoms paid and what not but as far as it being just an easy way for pirates to threaten your life for cash... well you already know what i think about it.

Edited by: Vanishing God on 19/08/2005 23:59:19 The ransom window could have two editable fields, one numerical and small, for the isk amount, the other a text window for a personalized message. You could either change the text on the fly (for the old school pirate who likes to leave a lasting impression on their 'client' with their own personal touch) or have it display a default text (i.e. the last ransom message you typed would be saved indefinitely in that field.. for the lazy and uncreative pirates).

Lock the pirate's weapons against the ransom target for say 5 mins if he agrees, or until aggressed by a corp/alliance mate of the target.

I'm probably going to get flamed to hell and back for this but I see a ransom button as a bad idea. It completely removes the option of ransoming someone then blowing up their ship as well. For some people this is their choson playstyle regardless of whether it fits with your ideas of what is right or not. Anything that removes options from the game is bad.

When did pirates start ransoming people again? I remember the good old days of Space Invaders and The Gang. Then it turned into gankathon 2004 at a gate near you and CCP had to waste time nerfing the griefers thus denying us decent content for YEARS.
I can still remember jumping through a gate and being webbed by Setec. What an experience what was. I have many MORE memories though of jumping through a gate and waking up in a flash of light in a clone bay because some juvenile ganker calling himself a pirate just ganked away.
I'd be very happy to see real piracy in Eve again. Unfortunately there are to many delinquents who kill first and talk NEVER. These are the same people who basically ruined real piracy with their antics after beta and forced the CCP Nerf Bat to come down swinging. They're the ones who aren't pirates at all.

Well its a nice Idea, and I see good arguements for and against. What is lacking is good solid definition of what it means to Pirate, or to be a pirate. Also I have not yet been on the loot gathering end of piracy but I have read many posts from active pirates. Currently the mechanics of piracy (as far as I can tell) go like this....
Pirate: hand over 5 million or I blow you up. Victim: dude my ship only cost me 1.5 million. Pirate: you have 30 seconds. Victim: oh no! you are scrambling me!!! what to do!!! Pirate: <opens fire> Victim: <sigh> <tap foot> <wish they would hurry up> <targets nearest station> <boom> Victim: at the moment of destruction they click dock with station and warp away. Priate: <opens cans> <grumble what?!?! a civilian shield booster WTFdisTinks!!!!> Victim: <goes and watches T.V. for 30 minutes> comes back equips new ship and continues....
What Websters has to say about piracy:
Pirate : one who commits or practices piracy.
Piracy: 1 : an act of robbery on the high seas; also : an act resembling such robbery 2 : robbery on the high seas 3 : the unauthorized use of another's production, invention, or conception especially in infringement of a copyright
Robbery : the act or practice of robbing; specifically : larceny from the person or presence of another by violence or threat
There are your merriam-webster definitions of Piracy/robbery.
I would conclude that once a person comits piracy/robery (piracy from now on) is a pirate. a pirate that *****es your egg after you pay up is no longer a pirate. They are a murderer. A much more substantial security hit should occur if a pirate destroys a players pod (more than currently).

Also I don't know if there are negative security hits for actions in 0.0 space. If there are I think that is kinda silly since 0.0 is the absence of law.
You know you lose -1.2 sec or so every time you pop a pod, right?

Edited by: Nomen Nescio on 20/08/2005 21:34:38 Guys, due all respect you have no clue what to ask for!
Ask for the LONGER battles, MORE time to start warp, LONGER gate approaches = MORE TIME IN ACTION .
If in 20 seconds bs pops up or enemy can mwd to a gate under 5 seconds or warp out takes 10 seconds with full breaking, 180 turn and speed up.... an instant convo wont safe a thing.

The problem is with that, most of the people who ransom have already killed countless people who haven't paid up, and are -10 or close already... there's no point in changing this at all tbh, because it'llh ave no effect on a person's gameplay.
