First off, I don't play Dust 514, hence the questions.
I've seen a few posts about programming problems with Dust that indicate not everyone is satisfied with it.
It's hard to get a general consensus in a forum thread, but I'm interested in what the Dust 514 players thing about the integration with Eve.
First, how does the Eve Beta match up with the console only version? Second, is it an enjoyable game? Third, what do the Dust players think about the current state of interaction with the Eve players?
Last, and least, how do Dust characters move from planet to planet?
Thank you very much for your input.

Q. First, how does the Eve Beta match up with the console only version? A. Do you mean Dust Beta? I am not sure if there is an Eve beta around.
Q. Second, is it an enjoyable game? A. If you are soloing in Dust you will not have much fun. Randoms get pubstomped and redlined pretty much every time. However if you do belong to a decent corp that does corp battles or a bunch of people to run and gun with, you will have a lot of fun
Q. Third, what do the Dust players think about the current state of interaction with the Eve players? A. Most Dust players have little or no interaction with Eve players at this point in time. The only players that do have some sort of interaction are the corps doing corp battles have the Eve capsulers providing orbital strike support for them. So far I and the rest are liking it.
Q. Last, and least, how do Dust characters move from planet to planet? A. Dust players don't "move" from planet to planet. We end up in the war barge above the planet and deploy form there. However when faction warfare and player owned districts are implement we would be local to that planet.
That's the information I have as of now. Please let me know if you have any other questions. |

TYVM. That's what I was looking for.
A little clarification on the first question. Did the quality of Dust 514 change when the change was made from console only, to the Tranquility interactive version? |

Yes the graphics are smooth and we don't have any hard freezes. There is generally very little lag but sometimes you see the frame rate skip which is ignorable.
However players like me that have made the transition from Dust to Eve are a little disappointed when we compare the graphics between the two, Eve being way better than Dust. With that said given CCPs problem with the Carbon engine and porting it to the Unreal engine I wouldn't mind giving things some time.
Most FPSers are impatient LOL. |

I've never owned a gaming console, so let me pick your brains about that, too. :)
I understood that the whole concept was to make a machine that could do gaming, and graphics especially, better than a multi-purpose computer. It seems that the cost is pretty similar now.

Consoles will never have as good graphics as a new gaming PC. Theyre restricted to their hardware. Saying that they do get the best out of what they have. For example Playboxstationpad X starts development in 2030 with the best stuff available. It comes out 1 year later and its awesome... but a new pc will have next years best.
As it stands the graphics in dust arent perfect, but that simply because its still in beta and they haven't optimized it. Keeps downloads small n whatnot. Expect better coming up to release - Nulla Curas |

There is actually a caveat out here;- It depends on the gaming engine. Certain gaming engines like the IW engine and the HAVOC engine produces games with really great graphics. Games like Assassins Creed and Darksiders have some mind blowing graphics and gameplay.
The Unreal engine Dust is from has had some hiccups in the past.
However as Chrome put it, most gaming platforms stay for a while. You will reach a saturation point at some point in time unlike PCs where you can choose to upgrade you CPU or RAM ever so often.
If you like getting together with a bunch of people and have at it;- console gaming is for you. |

After 10 years of live testing, the EVE beta is looking pretty good now. Of course there are still some balance issues to be worked through, but CCP have done a good job in getting it to a pre-release state.

Consoles where to have a reliable and well known foot print to use and utilize and maximize where with PC you just have to best guess what users have and work with it luckily most PC stuff these days have standards they adhere to (back then they didn't and not having the right sound card meant no noise... period)
Modern consoles however work great as a TV accessory as well accessing your favorite internet tv and social programs as well as play your blue rays and other movies you bought from online stores.
They can even stream content over your network.
Overall I would not buy a console to ever replace a PC, I would buy a console to replace a dvd or blueray player.
