I am proposing a tag to put next to peoples that would show when they are inactive for a period of 10 minutes or more (just like in the worlds of warcrafts).
The reason this would be helpful is, currently it takes just 1 guy who is cloaked afk and logs in after DT everyday to effectively shut down an entire system to people ratting. With the Sanctum nerf there are very very few systems that make ratting in them monetarily any better than running high-sec missions in complete safety. Currently it takes a few guys or 1 guy with a few cloaky alts to effective shut down an entire alliances source of income.. this seems hardly realistic.
When I mentioned this idea to someone they told me 'yeah but guys will make a macro to stop themselves from showing as afk. They could do that, but hey botting is illegal and CCP would catch them right?.. right?? =/
This is just a suggestion and I'm open to anyone else's opinion, i do feel that making cloaked ships scannable would not be the right solution. |

Well this is rather... poorly thought out.
I enter a system, scan out the sanctums or whatever, warp to them, cloak and wait for the afk tag to show.
You think it's safe and warp to the sanctum.
I giggle at your corpse floating in space.
I can appreciate what you're trying to do, however you're not addressing the actual problem. The problem is that you can see the cloaked vessel in local in the first place. Address that particular problem in a balanced way and you'll be on to something. Keep in mind... null is supposed to have a certain degree of danger. If you need to nerf the danger aspect, you're doing it wrong. Six months in the hole... it changes a man. |

As you said, your idea came from WoW. Therefore it should stay in WoW. This is not WoW, it is EVE, and it should stay the way it is. Take a couple people with you as security should your cloaking pest decide to do something. Otherwise, stop crying about it. New Eden is not a safe place. End of story. The main idea of stealth units is to force the enemy to spend resources on securing his operations. Look at RL where a few submarines in WW2 have forced huge logistic operations of putting ships into convoys to defend them. Same is in EVE. If you know there is an enemy cloaky in system then you just need to create a convoy, problem solved. In EVE its even much more simple. 1st you know that someone is in system because you see him in local (if you are not in a WH). 2nd your friends can warp in within seconds in case you need help convoying just means that you have some support in system not necessery the whole time on your grid.
Therefore: a clear NO to an AFK flag. Cloaked ships are working as intendet. |

Not only all the above, but it would be so easily bypassed. So an extra bonus to psychological warfare.
No, poor idea is poor. CCP Zulu.....Forcing players to dock at the captain's quarters is a form of what we actually wanted to get through, which is making Incarna a seamless part of the EVE Online experience. |

AFK can be overcome by so many things- macro programs, or ever programmable keyboards- basically have it send a "space" or something before the time increment. Keyboards can't even be detected.
Other games use inactivity to log players out, and this has been a longtime way to beat that mechanic.
I'm confused about the original problem- how is one stealther shutting down a system? Are you worried that one afk stealth ship will get lucky and find you while you are fighting rats? If they are afk, there is not much danger. If they are not afk, then its a fight- plan accordingly.
I really don't understand all the posts complaining about solo stealth ships- just keep moving at decent speed seems to be the best defense... their positioning attempts take time while you keep moving. |
