In terms of ore selling prices, in what order of value does each type of ore sell for?

Best is to set your market to region range, and look at the price history chart. There are no great differences at the common ore.
If you are smart and sell at the right stations you can very well expect to get a price at the upper 50% of the doncian channel.

Cheers Pagefault.
Which of the ores are classed as common ores and which do I require specialised mining equipment to excavate?
Thanks in advance

Common ores supposedly include anything found in 0.5 space and above, such as Veldspar or Scordite. Less common(i don't see them around, but others make millions on them) but also considered "common" include Omber and Kernite.
Once you get rolling you should be able to make good money with any of those ores, but(i've been told) the ores in extrememly low security are worth 10x or 100x as much. But unless you become a boot-licking lackey to one of the Beta Alliances you'll never see any. I don't hate the Betas and Lifers for being more experienced. I dislike them for being arrogant buggers who thump you if you don't play into their little ego trip. |

good rule of thumb: lower letter = better ore, eg: -V-eldspar is very cheap, -A-rkanor is very expensive. As a noob, u should sell you ore unrefined, u will make much more money because u loose a lot due to your poor refining skills.
Another important stat is the volume of the ore. Lower ores have lower volumes, and so the mining-laser will extract far more units of the lower ore. (mining lasers yield is measured in cube-meters/cycle, not ore-units/cycle).
To calculate which ore is best, u must scale the price by the volume, e.g veldspar is 0.1m3 while kernite is 1,2m3, so kernite must be more then twelve times as expensive as veld to be better.
Usually scordite sells very good in high sec, and kernite in med sec. veldspar mining is a waste of time, unless u want to build something yourself.

Please dis-reguard the assumption that people seem to make that you should sell your ore raw. This is most often WRONG.
Simple fact is, you should do the math for your local area and check how much you would make refined vrs raw. Most times even with refining level 1, you will make more by refining the raw ore and selling the minerals. Occasionaly in very busy systems you can make more by selling your ore as is.
So again, take 20 secounds to do the math. The difference can often be noticable, one way or the other.
