I started EvE just last week, so I don't know to much. I got pod killed by pirates (ICHO and EIGHTBIT). In my fury, I boarded someone's ship and kept it for my self. Is this legal. I didn't suffer any security loss and I did it in a 1.0 region. Any thoughts for the noob?

Boarding another ship will not give you a security hit. Its not illegal - but if you are nicking someones ship they might get a tad annoyed with you, so unless you think you can get away with it then I wouldn't bother.

Yes, an abandoned ship will still have a name beside it.
You can only board abandoned ships.
And, if you were pod killed, (ie your ship was destroyed and your pod was destroyed)...
How did you board someone elses ship?
Your clone would have woken up somewhere with emails from Concord and the insurance company, and there would be a shiny new noob ship in your hangar...
Is that what you've 'stolen' ?

Yeah the ship I boarded was an Imicus.
After I got pod killed in an Atron. I got a basic clone and ship. I went to an asteroid belt to try to make isk for a new ship. However, there was no need. Someone left me theirs,(unintentionally) >:)
Things are better now, I have a maulus. Not as fortunate as most, but not necessarilly the low man on the totem pole either.

ive boarded other peoples ships with no problems.
having got annoyed by people abandoning noob ships ouside stations i went on cleanup ops.
i boarded and docked several peoples ships with no problems.
i found some nice fittings in some that people obviously forgot.
i also temporarily turned into another player after his name stuck on his ship i boarded.

I play EVE since 3 Days (I think at this point I must not say how great this game is)..
...and i read the different meanings about boarding a ship which hangs lonely in space -- Why not handle this like in the real world ??
Why should this be wrong in the eyes of the law..??
A "left behind" naval ship is open for anyone who claims it, in history and also now ..
On the other way it could be interesting for pirates: "...leave your ship now..and you survive...leave it not..and we destroy the ship and also your escape pod....", hehe, as a noob i must not think much time about my decision....

Graylock your RL knowledge of Maritime law is completly WRONG. Property found floating in the sea is still owned by the owner. You may have some rights under salvage laws to payment (set by a court) for recovery of salvage, but you do not have rights to the property unless you can prove to a court that the Ship was legaly abandonded, not just physically abandoned. And these are two completly different actions. What you suggest would result in your arrest for piracy.

Getting other people's ships meachnic suggestion.
Leadership skill:
Space Marines Crew
for equiping
SpaceMarine Crew Life Support
Other skills for related modules:
Tractor/Towing Beams
Hull perfuration module
lock ship, aproach, drill hull, deploy marines, take over ship, eject life pod, tow to station.
Of course, the necessary countermeasures would be available.
