Anyone else getting tired of being labled a "Pirate". I never really consider it as my title or anything. I gate camp and rob people daily and it seems more and more people do the same. I do most everything I do (Hit the weak) all solo. More and more I see new players breaking into the style and claiming "Piracy". Which is fine because who am I to say anything, I'm not claiming to be a pirate and I'm surly not the first. I just mimican people before me and there actions to gain isk and have fun doing it.
So what happens when you're just sick of the name as well the people who do it? Is there just another title people can go by that are the same aspects of a "Pirate" without being considered a "Pirate"? Because I pretty much look down on most everyone who speaks like they're "Pirates" kinda brings me down on the whole idea. If you know what I mean...

I'm getting tired of the constant pirate vs carebear thing. As for being a pirate, well it's just the name that best sums up what i do i suppose, doens't really matter what people call me.

Pirate is a very general term, and everybody has their own ideas about what a pirate is .. one person's pirate could be another persons freedom fighter..

pirate is a point of view. Take BoB for example, i see them as allies *cough* carebears *cough* (just kidding ) whilst most of EVE still percieves them as Pirates.

Pirates have lost any sense of style they used to have as 70% of Eve's populaation claims to be one. ------------------------------

Buccaneer, Corsair, Privateer. Just a few of the types of 'pirates'. Take your pick.

Gotta love dictionary.com
a. One who robs at sea or plunders the land from space without commission from a sovereign nation.
b. One who preys on others; a plunderer.
c. One who makes use of or reproduces the work of another without authorization (you like heh?)
If you don't like pirate try the thesaurus. I'll call you villain, swashbuckler ( ), robber and a leech as long as you camp gates in low sec.

I've always like "Outlaw" or its synonyms found below in the text.
outÀlaw ( P ) Pronunciation Key (outl¶) n.
A fugitive from the law. A habitual criminal. A rebel; a nonconformist: a social outlaw. A person excluded from normal legal protection and rights. A wild or vicious horse or other animal.
tr.v. outÀlawed, outÀlawÀing, outÀlaws To declare illegal: outlawed the sale of firearms. To place under a ban; prohibit: outlawed smoking in the house. To deprive (one declared to be a criminal fugitive) of the protection of the law.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- [Middle English outlaue, from Old English tlaga, from Old Norse tlagi, from tlagr, outlawed, banished : t, out; see ud- in Indo-European Roots + l÷g, law; see legh- in Indo-European Roots.] -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- outlaw adj. Word History: The word outlaw brings to mind the cattle rustlers and gunslingers of the Wild West, but it comes to us from a much earlier time, when guns were not yet invented but cattle stealing was. Outlaw can be traced back to the Old Norse word tlagr, ôoutlawed, banished,ö made up of t, ôout,ö and l÷g, ôlaw.ö An tlagi (derived from tlagr) was someone outside the protection of the law. The Scandinavians, who invaded and settled in England during the 8th through the 11th century, gave us the Old English word tlaga, which designated someone who because of criminal acts had to give up his property to the crown and could be killed without recrimination. The legal status of the outlaw became less severe over the course of the Middle Ages. However, the looser use of the word to designate criminals in general, which arose in Middle English, lives on in tales of the Wild West.
Main Entry: outÀlaw Pronunciation: 'aut-"lo Function: noun Etymology: Old English +utlaga, from Old Norse +utlagi, from +ut out + lag log law 1 : a person excluded from the benefit or protection of the law <a trespasser is not an outlaw> 2 : a lawless person or a fugitive from the law 3 : a person or organization (as a nation) under a ban or restriction or considered to be in defiance of norms or laws <considered an outlaw for its support of terrorism>
Source: Merriam-Webster's Dictionary of Law, ® 1996 Merriam-Webster, Inc.
Main Entry: outlaw Function: transitive verb : to make illegal ùoutÀlawÀry /'aut-"lor-E/ noun
outlaw
adj 1: contrary to or forbidden by law; "an illegitimate seizure of power"; "illicit trade"; "an outlaw strike"; "unlawful measures" [syn: illegitimate, illicit, outlaw(a), outlawed, unlawful] 2: disobedient to or defiant of law; "lawless bands roaming the plains" [syn: lawless, outlaw(a)] n : someone who has committed (or been legally convicted of) a crime [syn: criminal, felon, crook, malefactor] v : declare illegal; outlaw; "********* is criminalized in the U.S." [syn: criminalize, criminalise, illegalize, illegalise] [ant: legalize]

Perhaps you could consider that piracy, in its variuos forums have been around in this game since its inceptions. Not to mention if you were to look at original box, you can see that the outlaw life style is heavily advertised.
Perhaps, you could reconsider what your defininition of 'greifer' is, and perhaps why you continue to play a game which promotes 'grief' by your own definition. Sorry, but whining on the fourms, and making disrespecting OOC comments directied at people for choosing a profesion which has been part of the game since beta doesn't make you look like the most 'well thought' player.

Their are very few true pirates in eve, swashbucklin cargo plundering parrot loving REAL pirates...
Shame really i wouldn't mind losing my cargo to someone with a jolly roger on their ship and a good sense of humour.
Just don't try to swing across to the other ship unless you've a space suit..
Gate gankers and the like i refer to by the most appropriate moniker "Murderous thieving bastards".

To me, if it looks like a pirate, acts like a pirate and smells like a pirate, good chance is that it IS a pirate!
