I have a suggestion. It would be nice if we could get use of a*****pit or bridge-view for the ships in eve. This could rise the quality of the game, and makes the "in-space" feeling more realistic. The next point is a direct control of the ship with the arrow-keys, to make the ship controlable in the*****pitview. As i said, its just a suggestion. A animation of the docking-manoeuvre in which you can see the ship is entering the station, and you get a feeling of how enormous the station is. That`s all.

First of all, you don`t have to use the c o c k p i t-view and i control rework should be done, for using the c-pit-view effectively. Of course there sould be the possibility to steer your ship like you do it now.

You're thinking about the ships in EVE in the wrong context. These are not small, agile fighter planes...they are huge capital ships....even the frigates which look small in comparison are huge.
Think of them in terms of a star trek type of situation, where the ship is massive and has a huge crew on the bridge controlling it's actions. Except in EVE everything is wired to your pod and you get control of it...you are not so much flying the ship directly, as you are giving orders to the computer.
That's not to even mention the latency problems that would arise from having twitch controls in a game of this type. I just isn't possible to do with today's internet connection...maybe with Internet 2 but who knows.

Read the backstory, the game IS in c o c k pit view.
You're in a pod, being fed visual info from camera drones orbitting the ship. You see onscreen what the captain sees.

Actually, I've become much too used to EVE's control scheme... I tried to go back and play some Freelancer... couldn't. I hate the fact that the camera is locked behind the ship while I control it. I love the freedom of being able to see various angles of the ship and the surrounding situation.
Minsc had it right with the context of the ships in this game too. These are not small fighter ships. They're massive vessels that would normally require a crew to operate.
And I think the game's official explanation (the camera drone) is pretty lame and stupid. Also, I think it would be kinda odd to have an entire battleship operated by one single pilot... I would think you'd still need a crew of some to keep it running. To hell with this, I'm going to pretend my ships are manned by a crew, and the outside view is a simulation within the ship to help in its operation. ------------ http://kainoss.rooms.cwal.net/ |

Ships do have crews, at least those larger than a frig. They perform the mundane functions of the ship to keep it running while the pilot actually flies it. You just never get to see them.

They have crews. The increased efficiency of the captain using a pod simply reduces the crew requirements. (No need for command crew) There are still people in there loading guns, maintaining engines, and swabbing decks.
Besides, piloting capital ships from a bridge, or using a joystick would be rediculously annoying. They don't exactly turn on a dime. The existing control scheme fits with what we're flying.
