Dust 514 is the only game to overheat my PS3 and forces a shut down. I am starting to find the game is unplayable due to this. |

And we should believe your sincere and unique post exactly why?
It's not like thousands of posts swarm the forums about this topic. It's only you. So your first thought must have been: "I'am the only one having this problem with exactly the same hardware as everyone else. it must clearly be the game and not my broken PS3."
Sounds legit.

Overheating often has to do with either not enough air getting to the console or dust in the console rendering the cooling ineffective. try to vacuum all the cooling slits and if that doesn't help you might consider finding a tutorial on the web (ie youtube) depending on your console model on how to open it up safely to clean it out. |

Well OP, i'd say your problem is DEFINETLY dust, just not the kind you thought.
but yeah. keep your playstation and the area its in clean or it will build up dust inside it fast. (i personally keep all of my electronics inside of a wooden cabinet thats completely airtight save for 2 in/out pumps that force the air through a filter to remove all dust and particulates) |

I gave it a blow out with some air after trying to open the case. No screws. Yes I looked at the vids removed the rubber pads underneath and the warrenty seal.
I have a 60 gig UK version of the PS3. Tried to play Dust again tonight and had one game before the console shut down with heat.
Its kept on a glass shelf underneath the TV.
If it can't be opened somehow I will break the case open and shove the guts inside a PC case where they will be easier to keep cool and clean. |

Under the TV may not be the best place for it.
depending on your TV type, the underside and rear of older (CRT) types can become rather warm, leaving anyting in the immediate vicinity at risk of overheating.
as the cables for most PS3 are long enough, i would personally suggest moving your PS3, when in use, to a place nearer a window, whether the window is open or closed is not an issue as either way, in the current weather, it should have a beneficial effect.
TL:DR ... move your ps3 itself somewhere cooler that has better airflow. it is in a bad place at the moment. |

ok will try thanks for the help. I am baffled by the fact it only overheats when playing Dust514. Final Fantasy runs fine and yet threre seems to be more going on screen than in Dust.
I have managed to get inside the case the airflow inside the PS3 is rubbish to say the least who ever designed it wants shooting. |

Welcome to the world of consoles, where laptops are made to look properly cooled. People like consoles to be cheaper smaller and quieter, and putting a tiny little fan to cool the whole thing helps all 3.

Use this
It should fix your PS3 overheating problems. From time to time I also delete my Dust 514 saved game data. That helps a lot too. The only thing is your system options for Dust gets reset which you can easily change in game. |

Console is now running with the top removed until I have time to take it appart and clean it properly. Ran well over the time it usualy takes to overheat without its cover tonight. Normal run time is one game of Dust514 and then a shut down due to overheat halfway through the second match.
