Yo.
I know this has been in here some times before, but why not give it another glance? We all know that eve-ships have extremely high explosive reactors, since when they go up they vaporize any trace of the ship except our beloved super sturdy loot can.
Battlefields after two fleets clashed would be much more interesting though if there would be some remains of the ships that went down. Maybe add simple object that roughly imitates the size of the downed ship next to the loot can, and slap some fancy burned/scarred texture on it, so it doesnt create more server lag than a small asteroid. Of course give those shipwrecks some sort of decay time, so they donŠt clutter up the database after a while, maybe one or two days or so.
Then throw in the long awaited salvage drones and give them the ability to extract minerals from such shipwrecks. Imagine corps that specialize in salvage operations and venture from battlefield to battlefield like vultures, to pick up the remains.
IŠm not crazy, i just have another consciousness in my mind! |

I think the loot cans themselves should look like debris fields, depending on the size of the ship they would be bigger or smaller - not count for collisions with other objects so you could fly right through the field, even if its big... Then when you're looting it's not like for some reason all the weapons on the ship were neatly placed in a little box right before it exploded either....

No more cans, recoverable debris for immersion.

Good idea, would look very neat. Even if its changing the model of the jetcan to some generic debris model would look neat. (Obviously only the jetcans left from destroyed ships, cause otherwise jetcan mining would start looking rather odd :)

I'd have no problem with jettison mining leaving the hauler to practically vacuum ore dust instead of solid ore from a container, containers should only ever be used for logistic purposes.

I agree, I even posted an idea something like that.

I like the idea of having to pick my way through wreckage with a scanner. And the possibility of what I find being merely a damaged module, rather than a complete one.

here come the salvage ships, similar to barges, just less cargo hold and fast. They use Salvage Lasers, but here's the trick to prevent the "I'll just grab the good mineral" thing! You don't salvage minerals directly, you just get "debris" parts in your cargo hold, and those can be recycled to (depending on "salvage recycling" skill level) to minerals.
that would open one more profession to eve and even an interesting one.

Why a new skill? Surely scrapmetal reprocessing fits the bill already?
