I filed 3 petitions and did not get an answer. I looked up all the FAQs but did not find an answer. So I try ask in here:
I bought a shuttle for 8.000.000 instead of 8.000. Yes, its my fault since I could check the prize a lil closer. I was just to damn tired, and used to buy shuttles at 8.000.
Its not a bug, maybe even not en exploit, but maybe its griefing, flooding the market with nonsence prices.
My simple question is, how far this is "legal". You can imagine how ****ed I am losing 8 Mil that way.
I am asking myself, if I could use the same tactic, and add some zeros to all my slel orders, and use all my alts for this easy money "tactic".
Imagine, all the ppl start to do this, and we have a market with more "false" prices then real ones. How much fun is this ? How much fun is this I lose 8 Mil, even if its my own fault.
Is this really tolerated ??

Yep!
You have learned a valuable lesson I hope. Also be aware of items in escrow that aren't what the description says, or people offering silly low amounts for minerals or trade goods.
It is up to you to spot these I'm afraid.

Yes there is. However, it shouldnt be necessary. When a games economy is based on a real world model, real world rules apply. And the first rule you learn in 9th Grade Economics is "Buyer Beware".

Ive done the same bought a shuttle for 9,111,111.11mil thinking it was 9k, wasnt paying atention this was way back when you didnt get a warning that it was well over priced and when 9mil was alot of isk to me i was gutted.
Its a annoying problem like escrow scams just have to be abit more careful and spend that extra couple of seconds.

there was no warning, because for some bad luck funny reason all the shuttles avaible in that region were priced at 8.000.000,00 and 9.000.000,00. So the lowest price was 8 Mil, I thought it was 8k, to tired to count the zeros. I bet that guy bought all the shuttles in whole region for the "normal" price, and put "his" price up. I sure was at the wrong time in the wrong place buying the wrong stuff.
The other problem besides my own stupidy is, that now I am seriously thinking to use the same trick; which makes me think, where goes this game, if everybody starts to do this. Talking about real life, you wont find sellers offering a 8.000 car for 8 Mil.

Yes I feel a bit sorry for you, but here's an alternate idea: look up who sold you the shuttle in your journal, find a nice level 3 locating agent and go gank the pilot. :P
this is 'market' piracy to go with the 'regular' piracy that people have been doing for ages. beware. this is not a nice game :)
and please, don't send any more petitions, CCP won't answer them and you'll just clog up the system for people who really need it :P Ten thousand Lemmings can't be wrong... |

I dont see anything wrong with it.
I bought shuttles for 1mil in 0.0 because I wanted it.
You have all tools to check the price and there is no need in artifical limits.

hehe Bishop 5,
good idea ! I got a lvl 3 agent locating ppl. but I fear, those guys are just sitting in station issuing sell orders all day long, never leaving the station. ALso, I am to lazy to go after single ppl; meanwhile I could earn the 8 Mils back and use my time to make more cash. no worries, I do not fle petitions about this anymore, and you described it a nice way : market pirates :)
/end whine.
thanks for listening, makes me feel better; and I hope some plp took this as a warning and hopefully less and less ppl will report such things.

Mojack, I apologize if my first reply sounded harsh. I really do feel your pain. But yes, it is a common practice, though not so common that "everyone does it". The problem with it is, the people most likely to bite are the new players, and I have real disdain for people who prey on newbs. It isnt illegal, but once you sting someone, they will remember it. They may come hunting, they may hire a merc, or they may have powerful friends. "Do unto others as THEY have done to you" isnt exactly the best policy, but its a better policy than, "Do unto other innocent victims as a third party did unto you when you were an innocent victim."

@ Tjanit: nah all good. did not sound harsh to me. and I agree, its not a good politic to go and pick on other innocent victims. guess I was just ****ed the day it happened, because I wanted to use those 8 Mils in another way, and was missing the money thus I lost time to make up for it.
the other thing I was dissapointed to not get an answer for the petition. a simple "sorry your fault, wath it next time" would be all good with me.
the ironic thing is, as long this happened to other ppl I was just laughing and thinking how stupid one can be....untill it happened to myself.
Once I lost an Cruiser beieng drunk and tired floating in 0.2 belts not paying attention - I did not file a petition about that, hehe.
all good. thanks to all for their replies. I really hope some readers will doube check the prizes now, and I hope those ppl having those sell orders up will cancel them, because those ppl really ruined my day; actually my week.

Basically, it's only tolerated by the devs because you the players tolerate it. CCP never can, 2 yrs record of proof, be bothered to do anything unless enough players outcry against it.
1) get a huge # of players petitioning against it; 2) quit, deciding early on that it's not your type of game; 3) just live with it. When no one falls for it, the market exploitation will stop... which it never will.
