Which is your favorite up close and personal HAC the Vagabond or the Deimos - at the moment im leaning towards the Vagabond as its just as fast with an AB as the Deimos is with its MWD or at least its close, this has obvious SIG advantage
Whats the general opinion out there - soon I will be able to fly both but I was just wondering what other players thoughts are ??

Deimos is the best HAC for up close fighting as it's specifically designed to be. Clearly you need to be in range for it to work best, but thats where yout piloting skills come in. There is no "big red win button" in Eve.

Deimos is the king of DPS.However,it's somewhat sluggish compared to the Vagabond and may have a tough time getting close to it's target. Vagabond is a nice ship with decent DPS because you can more or less dictate the engagement due to your speed advantage.However,it dies easily to web and drones if it is nos'ed.
I can only comment on the vag since that's what i'm flying.There's a thread named "Best HAC for PvP" or something that i have posted in some more detail.Go to eve-search.com,try a forum search for that topic and you'll see some more details.

The deimos is great and all but is not nearly as versatile as the vaga due to:
-short range
-slow and fat and not nearly as agile (an mwd deimos = an AB vaga)
-crappy resistance set.
If it wasn't for how sexy the ishtar is, I'd be wishin I had trained Vaga right now, cos while its damage isn't quite as rude, it can both gank and tank and is fast and agile and its guns use very little cap. Way better short-range ship in the long run.

Id rather have the resists of the deimos than the vaga to be honest.
Also, the deimos is a much better close range ship as it has the DPS advantage, by quite a large margin, over the vagabond. The vaga's strongpoint is its speed and maneuvarability, plus its choice of dmg types. It cant tank aswell as a deimos though, and it cant do as much dmg. Both are damn good ships though. The deimos does have its downfalls, being sluggish in one, but it makes up for it with a stronger cap than a vagabond, and also superior firepower
But tbh, the ishtar is the best HAC for close range, as long as you have good drone skills

Deimos is the best "up close and personal" HAC, it's not the most versatile that crown goes to the Ishtar imho.

ishtar... yeh may have a 5/5/5 setup, your not really gona fit anything other than nos/drones/ecm on it really.

Depends on who you fight really, and what their preferences are. The hostiles I run into are often using minmatar HACs and BSes using fusion or EMP ammo, so the Ishtar or Deimos would be better (with exp hardener). For them, though, they fight a lot of laser-firing ships, and they know the NPCers they gank tank thermal and EM, so for them flying minmatar and using exposive ammo is a no brainer.
Vaga has the additional bonus of being able to run away from (or tackle) ANYTHING with its speed. Unless its well nosed, the vagabond may not always win, but it will never lose.

A well flown vaga vs a well flown Deimos..
Vaga either wins or gets away.
Badly flown ships.. can go either way.

Vagabond is much better than a deimos.
Don't listen to people who buy a deimos and sit around NPCing with it, then telling everyone who godly it is.

It depends on what you want to do with it.
For solo-ing i would prefer Ishtar over the Vagabond.
The slot layout of Ishtar is just awesome, you can tank and use it as EW platform with build in insta-blob!

vagabond for solo, pick your fights. deimos for gang, get to the top of teh kill mails.
