But what's to prevent anyone from buying one of these items and immediately selling it for a 600 million+ profit? If this is a scam, I don't understand it. Actually, I can;t see how someone could place teh buy order when items are available for less than is being asked, nor can I understand how a sell order can be placed when someone is buying it for more... I just walked by thinking if it is too good to be true...

If you tried to sell it you would get a message saying how the order doesn't exist anymore (iirc). It's because the buyer doesn't have enough isk to cover the buy order anymore. In Eve and RL, if you have to ask "is this a scam" the answer is most likely Yes.

It is highly unlikely they were created exactly x number of days apart.

Not least of which is the crazy ship insurance scheme that would bankrupt any RL company in days.

Whitehound 1259	Posted - 2013.03.18 22:42:00 - [10] - Quote To explain the scam you need to know the this: To place a buy order on the market does one need to posses the ISKs for a purchase up front (aka escrow). The ISKs are then held by the game until someone sells into the buy order. Because there is a skill which allows to reduce this amount is it possible to place a buy order without having all the ISKs needed. If someone tries to sell into a buy order will the ISKs get paid out of the escrow and then, whatever is missing, out of the buyer's wallet. So one can set up orders for 1b ISKs with i.e. only 500m ISKs in the wallet. The scam is that when there is not enough ISKs in the buyer's wallet will the order fail, but you will only find out once you actually try to sell the item, which means you first need to posses it. Loss is meaningful. Therefore is the loss of meaning likewise meaningful. It is the source of all trolling.

Gotta ask yourself, why would someone sit in local (obviously AFK with automated chat script, but whatever) trying to sell something, when there is an active buy order (usually in the same system) for more money than he is asking. Jint Hikaru - Miner / Salvager / Explorer / SpaceBum In the beginning the Universe was created. This has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move.

Two of the defining characteristics of a carebear are wanting other players to play the way the carebear wants and whining on the forums for the game to change when they don't. Yet I see more threads on these forums from gankers than I do miners whining about wanting the game changed to suit them.
