Most of us have been there. You are home from work, the kids are finally in bed, and you have a planned night of endless spaceship mayhem ahead of you... or so you thought. As you settle down in your computer chair, you hear a low whine emanating from the kitchen... or is it the laundry room (I joke... I joke...).
"Honey.... Do you want to watch this movie with me? Come spend time with me."
Sometimes it's not a whine at all... it's something much... much worse.
"You get your ass in here and spend time with me, or I'll kick that damn triple screen in."
It's called wife aggro, and it's a serious problem. We are currently in pre-production for the next High Drag podcast, and we need your stories... and tips... about your own wife / girlfriend / significant other aggro. The plan is to read the tips and stories on the podcast, and I will even throw in 100 million ISK to the winner of the best story (selected by the High Drag team).
If you wish to remain anonymous just say so in the message or post. Feel free to post your story in this thread, send an ingame mail to kyle yanowski or Random McNally, or send an e-mail to [email protected] or [email protected].

I used to suffer from this, then I got my mrs a tablet and introduced her to ebooks.
Now she spends her time reading on the sofa which has opened up so many opportunities for me to annoy the hell out of her when shes so zoned in on reading.
Men, get your significant other a tablet if shes a reader. Or introduce her to the smurfs game on android and app store. It operates on eve time and will teach her to respect your hobby.

The kid bought herself a tablet. She is allowed to use it after her homework is done and before bed. Which is at 9pm, or 2100.

Personally, I went the Kindle route with a Kindle Keyboard first and then when the Mrs. decided to take online classes, upgrading to the Kindle Fire HD.
Now, she is either reading, watching a show or doing homework (on her own computer)

Sit the sprogs down and introduce them to all good Sci-fi.
Stargate TNG, Stargate SG-1 and Atlantis, Babylon 5, Farscape, Firefly etc.
Then try again with eve.

I've started them with the ol' Shatner Star Trek, through the various incarnation spinoff's, Bab5, Farscape, Firefly, BSG (both old and new).

Best part about Shatnertrek was Scotty the engineer. I watch it just for him. He is my hero.
Kids games? They change more often than their socks. Their mainstayish games currently are Guild wars II and some Halo thingie.

I have one story of the 2nd kind of wife aggro involving violence... it involves my mrs and her middle eastern short temper and a threat to castrate me if I didnt stop playing eve right in the middle of being warp scrammed in a mission. That was a conundrum.
Long story short, I still have my nuts and my myrmidon!

My wife aggro tales would be from other PC games, before I played EVE. That was before the wife and I had kids to wear us out. These days if I have time for EVE and she has time for Netflix or the latest HBO series, we're both happy.
Besides, EVE is a great dad hobby. If I wasn't playing EVE, I might be out at happy hour with the guys at work. Or pursuing my other hobby (guitar) and lusting spending the vacation fund on endless guitar and amp upgrades. |

Three things have recently conspired to give me copious amounts of time to play.
The little woman is a gardener (or should I say, she really, really wants to be a gardener). After New Years the seed catalogues started arriving in the mail, her laptop became planning central, in a month she has filtered through thousand, perhaps 100's of thousands of seed varieties, cross referenced with shade tolerance, grow temperature, season length, bla bla bla. In the February the basement became a grow op...without the good stuff.
One of her friends recently took up home brewing, and she decided that she needed to do it as well. About 2 months ago, packages of tubes and glasseware and home brewing magazines started arriving at the door. So the kitchen and laundry room has been converted into a microbrewery...this is good, very good. It turns out, what she lacks in gardening skills, she makes up for in beer brewing.
On top of that 2 of her friends and one of her cousins are pregnant. She just had to sew and knit a bunch of baby cloths for them.
She has been so involved with seeding, growing watering, organizing, planning, replanning, brewing, sampling, sewing and knitting and worrying that she hasn't done enough...I haven't seen her between supper and 11pm more than 1-2 nights per week for a month. Gaming life is good right now. The only drawback is that she's really doing all this to avoid writing here grad thesis so she can GTFO of university and get a job. Yep, since I'm the employed one in the house, guess who paid for all this crap. Ce la vie, I'm not going to look the gift horse in the mouth, by my best estimates I probably have about 1-2 months of gaming bliss left before I start attracting too much wife aggro. When it comes though, I expect it will be unrelenting and devastating. Never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by stupidity. |

I used to get the Sneaky Nipple(TM) form of wife-aggro - She'd sneak up behind me and rub a bare nipple across the back of my neck. Some hours later, I'd remember that I hadn't logged out, and would wake up the computer to see my fate. Always worth whatever happened to my 'toon, mind you - And sometimes I'd discover my ship and toon were still mindlessly wandering through spece with nary a mark on them. Sometimes.
Still totally worth it.
These days, she's back to work, aqnd doesn't have as much energy (or frustration) to work out on me - So I've been getting more uninterrupted game play. Not at all sure I can call that a 'win' though. Tell someone you love them today, because life is short. But scream it at them in Esperanto, because life is also terrifying and confusing.

And since she can take me two falls out of five (and is a nasty hand with bunt instruments), I find it easier to safe-up and deal with whatever it is she needs done. Unless and except as otherwise noted. Tell someone you love them today, because life is short. But scream it at them in Esperanto, because life is also terrifying and confusing.

Where is the husband aggro threads!
Believe it or not but in some cases its not the wife that is causing aggro because of online games So going to add in..well two stories here.
First one is wife aggro. My (at the time) BF asked me if he could start to play EVE and me ofc wanting to be that perfect GF that was so much better then that cruel X that never allowed him to do things like that i said yes go ahead. Well.. i did not expect that i within the next few weeks i would be completely uncapable of getting any form of attention from him. Now im talking to the point were i would suprise him when he came back from the store or similar all dressed up ready to..play.. and get a "Im sorry honey, i have to do something in EVE". Well i guess my way of retaliate was to start to actually play my self
Which leads to the BF aggro. My english was...awful to say the least. I knew basic things like "hello" and ofc the standard "i love you" and similar that you see on a regular basis in varius situations. Luckely he was a member of a pure US corp, which meant i could log on during my day time and be all alone, mining away and feeling so proud of my self for helping him gathering minerals and whatever, and log back off when he woke up so he could play. But then we got a member who worked night and would log on during my times and he was very insistant on trying to talk to me. He helped me a lot with my english even if it was a lot of online transelators and guesses. Well anyway... I got more secure in my self and when my BF had to leave for the army for a year (mandatory service in Norway) a lot of the corp members were trying to make me feel more welcome and keep me company and try to help me understand the game a bit better, which ofc meant trying to talk to me. By the end of the year i was a very capable EVE player, and had many friends within the corp (some to this day, even if they no longer play). I guess my BF were a bit..jelous perhaps, because his attitude towards both me and EVE changed rapidly during the time he was in the army, and even more so when he came back for good. Before i knew it i was not hiding from corp members, but rather staying awake waiting for him to go to sleep so i could safetly log online my self without having him getting angry at me
Well..after living together for 5 years, and him deciding to do a small..mistake at a festival including another girl, and repeating said mistake shortly there after (with the same girl) and then proceeding to blame it on the fact that i had changed to much as a person because of EVE (and yet having the nerves to say that we could keep living together as.. playmates and me as his personal coffee maker) i packed all my stuff and left.
1 year later i met the person who is now my husband, and the only wife aggro he gets from me because of EVE is when he overrules me regarding diplomatic stuff because he can be to nice in some cases But in general we have a simple rule.. While ingame we dont treat eachother as married when it comes to serius discussions which allows the both of us to speak our mind and yell in chats or forums, but as soon as we log out whatever discussion we had in EVE stops. Ofc this dosent always work but hey, no ones perfect
So short version.. If you want to more or less eliminate wife/husband aggro, recruit your better half to your corp, talk for a couple of years, meet in real life, get married and move across the globe Phoibe Enterprises official recruitment thread The Eve Reader - -áAudio Recordings of Eve Chronicles

i don't have bf aggro. we don't harass each other much. i leave him be when he is at his music and xbox. and he pretty much leaves me to it when i'm "playing 'puter" as i call it. lol. except if he is hungry. he can be so direly helpless at taking care of himself. i sometimes wonder how he got along at all before we moved in together. perhaps i've merely spoiled him.
but the important thing is...we always make time for each other. i've very, very rarely had a feeling of being neglected in the slightest...and i hope the same is true for him. though i know he'd never say so if he did. but after these past few years i like to think i'm fairly adept at reading his moods. |

Make him learn to cook for himself... as a grown soon to be happily married man, I am totally self sufficient and there is no reason a man in this day and age should not be either!
Besides, in my house... well apartment I'm the boss of the kitchen. My mrs can barely make toast without burning it.

I have never felt that he has neglected me,but then again im used to being on my own and i honestly dont mind not having dinners or watch tv together every single day. We make it a point to go out on "dates" which was very hard when we were actually dating (again the whole thing with living in different countries, both with jobs we couldent just leave, and money and visas) on a regular basis, and try to have atleast one meal together whenever he is home (paramedic so he is gone quite a bit).
I know he often worries that i feel neglected tho.. Either because he is lost in spreadsheets for hours or because he sends me upstairs with my laptop and the cats so he can record his podcasts without having to worry about background noise but honestly the fact that he obviusly does care about how i feel makes me extremely happy, so i will offer to leave our living room (which is where we have the computers) so he wont have to feel so bad about it

My wife loves to cook (as do I), plays violin, and is an avid gamer on all platforms, from NES to PS3 to PC MMOs. She left me behind in Diablo 3 when I got tired of it and now plays whenever she's not studying Bach or Vivaldi. She also plays guitar and is a metalhead. When she finished Skyrim, I showed her the new Hitman game and she was addicted to that for about a month. It's hard for her to get much gaming time in because her violin studies are taking up a lot of her time these days.
The only time I get aggro is when one of our shows comes on, such as Game of Thrones, True Blood, The Big Bang Theory, Bones (we like to watch Bones while we eat because it's so gory and it makes us laugh), but since I love doing those things it's more like "Our show is on, come see!" rather than actual aggro. She's the coolest wife in the world and doesn't nag or ***** at me about my playing, even if I'm playing a lot because she understands what it means to be consumed by a game. Of course, I don't abuse this while she's awake because I want to spend time with her, but she doesn't have a problem with it if I'm doing something important. She'll actually ask me if I'm at a place where she can talk to me during my game time.
She bought me a motorcycle a few years ago and we usually take trips on it during the summer, often bugging me to go on the motorcycle when I don't even want to. Why is she so awesome? Because she loves me for who I am and has never once tried to change me because she feels that she married me BECAUSE I am a gamer and musician. Oh btw, she also helps me load and unload all my gear whenever my band plays somewhere and always comes to support me. How do I keep her happy? I never bug her, I always support her in her endeavors, and she loves my big ****. Advice for the fellas: giving your wife a good dicking will always keep you in positive sec status. |

Total agreement. I even asked if it was ok before deciding to sell. She's more of a Guild Warsy player anyway. I've got a yellow lab and three cats...and the lab likes to jump in my lap just as much as the cats do, and he's fully grown. There have been "incidents" here as well, LOL!
Camilla, my smallest runt cat which is the most talkative and acrobatic of the bunch, loves to jump from my wife's PC chair onto my shoulders (we have perpendicular desks in our game/music room) while I'm playing, scaring the living crap out of me. She then looks at you after you yell at her for scaring you, and then yells right back at you while purring and standing on your keyboard and waving her tail in your face.
Then there's Cleopatra. She's the boss of the house and will let you know it. She's a beautiful grey cat who constantly bitches and complains and hisses at you. She never does anything about it, just basically yelling at you for getting in her way. She'll do it while she's cuddling with you. She also likes to lick my clothes for some reason while she's in my lap. Dunno.
Finally, we have Banjo, the closest thing to Garfield anyone could have. This is the biggest, cutest, cuddly-st, hungriest, most annoying cat in the history of cats. I would have killed him a long time ago if he hadn't been so damn cute. He has razor sharp claws and loves to surprise me by clawing his way up my leg when he jumps into my lap while I'm playing. It's extremely painful. He then proceeds to apologize by purring and walking back and forth in front of my keyboard, waving his long, periscope tail in my face, rubbing his face against mine. He'll then crawl into my lap facing me, sit down, and literally put his paw on my face over my mouth, as if to say, "That's enough Eve. Pay attention to me now."
One time my yellow lab Marduk had to go away for a couple of days because we went on vacation, and he missed home so much that my mother in law had to go pick him up early from our friend who was keeping him for us for a week. He didn't miss people, he missed his couch and his cats. When he got home, all three cats ran to him as he jumped on his spot on the couch and they all laid down with him and went to sleep together. My mother in law said the cats were desperate when Mardy left. People laugh when I tell them that Banjo is Marduk's brother, but it's really true. They are inseparable, even though Banjo's a cat and Marduk is a labrador. I'm a dog person by nature, but cats and dogs together are unbeatable. The dynamic in this house is hysterical. |

Going back some time, my mother had Margaret and C'thulu. Margaret was an apple-headed tiny little Siamese, and C'thulu was a big(!!) brain-dead Maine Coon. Margaret hated C'thulu, and he never understood what was happening - She'd run into the room, nail him in the face three, four times hard, then vaporize; He's stand there looking around trying to figure out what happened.
Margaret whould also body-check C'thulu off of tables: Run across the table and slam her body into him, shoulder-first. He'd fall off the table - often straight onto his head, -then get up, shake himself off, and wander away.
But when C'thulu wanted your keyboard, well, give it up, 'cause your productivity was done. Bare-claw climb up the leg (all 18 pounds of him!), stomp onto the keyboard, then plop himself down. Immobile, short of picking the keyboard up and flipping it over. Which didn't phaze him at all - He'd just get up (off his head) and repeat. The bloody stab-wounds in your leg usually deterred you from trying to remove him after the first experience.

Im a (now reserve) comm ops officer in an armoured brigade which needs the same skills. Its wonderful to watch a movie listen to TS and the mrs and hold 2 conversations.
However apparently when i do it my eyes lose focus so talking to the mrs and listening to TS has resulted in head slapping and once a full blown arguement.
Still, love the skill. Jus need to train it to 5 to reduce the aggro. "I think you should buy a new Mayan calendar. Mine has muscle cars on it." --áKenneth O'Hara

Your partener should respect your hobbies just as you should respect theirs, and if you find your self in a position were you can never have "you" time because your patener does not approve of it for whatever reason, is that really the kind of person you want to be with?
And this ofc does not just have to mean games. You have a TV show you like but you cant watch it because its not "ok" in your pareneters opinion? Or you want to go and work on that old car you have sitting in the garage while you have a few beers but its out of the question because it means you will get "dirty" or there are so many better things you could do with your time. Or ofc you could just want to read your newspaper because thats an activety you enjoy but nope... cant do that either because you need to pay attention to what they are doing
These are just a few examples. But the point is.. Everyone needs time for them selfes to do what THEY want to do. It does not matter how much you love your partener/famely, sometimes you just need to forget about what is going on around you and let your mind drift.
So i can agree to some extent..a game or hobby shouldent destroy a relationship, but if this is your hobby and your better half cant respect that, what are the chanses that you will stay happy in that relationship?

Well, on the subject of that I do have a story but its a tad long.
It's back from when I used to play WoW (yes I know), and in my mates guild there was a really nice guy who played with his wife and his young lad. Anyway we were all noobs together, we met while leveling around the mid 20s or 30s I forget and we started leveling together. We managed to get him on vent and his mrs followed shortly after and we had a good time chatting to them. He worked from home and ran his own business so he had oodles of free time to do as he wishes and the wife was fine with that. On vent it was always a "back in a mo, loading dish washer" "back in a tick, helping the wife take in the washing" etc etc.
This all changed around the time we hit 60. My friends guild was just social, we did the odd 5 man instance (this was back in vanilla wow in 06) and BGs together but nothing serious. Most of us were university students or in their teens. After a while he started to push for us to do raiding, and get some good gear. We tried, and failed terribly. So he decided to leave and join one of the better guilds on the server. His mrs and lad stayed in our guild as she liked the community and his boy was about... 7 or 8 at the time I dont remember and he just enjoyed doing what we told him.
Pretty soon he caught the raiding bug, and as it happened the guild he joined also used our vent as well. Then the problems started, it was always "can't, boss fight" / "can't, got to do x y z" and the mrs would confide to us about it as they played in separate rooms.
Soon after his wife became more and more inactive, and in my friends list I barely ever saw a time when my mate would log off. On the times the wife would log, she would say in guild chat how he wasnt doing his work now, and customers were getting angry etc or deadlines coming up. Long story short on that, he lost some big contract he was doing and had to pay the penalty clause which was something like 35 grand and the mrs went mental on him. She had a kind of RL intervention for his raiding addiction (This was just when they'd added Naxx 1.0 before TBC) and told him it was her and the lad or WoW.
He actually chose WoW. The mrs moved out and quit shortly after. I know he sold his house and took his 50% and was living on that and basically giving his life to raiding. I dont know the end of the story as I quit shortly after I 70'd in TBC and decided WoW had lost its fun with arenas and so forth and the death of world pvp which is what I enjoyed most.
Not a happy tale, but a good warning I think. "I think you should buy a new Mayan calendar. Mine has muscle cars on it." --áKenneth O'Hara

Aye.
Shame too, they were a lovely couple. But I think deep down he had a highly addictive personality and WoW's press button, receive bacon nature appealed to him.
I always took it as a warning. But the thing is, could this happen in EvE? I mean.... I know the old MC raids would last 8-10+ hours. Is there anything comparable in EVE? I'm not sure how long pvp roams and so on are, or fleet fights. But I know how long incursions and plexs etc last and its not a terrible amount of time. I never do logi on my incursion alt so I have sneakily disappeared from my keyboard a few times when the mrs needs a hand and nothing has gone wrong.
Yes, it might have given the others more of a job quickly but family comes before games especially if its something either super important or something that will cause strife.
Now if I do something I tell the mrs in advance. "im going to be doing something for about an hour and a half in eve ok?" And she will give me her nod of approval as in "sure" or "can you help me with the washing in 10?" or something like that, to which I will oblige and get my uninterrupted time barring some kind of disaster. I take the same approach. Most of my game time is in 1-2 hour blocks near the family's bedtime or after. I'll also do a variable 1ish hour when I get home from work to "decompress".
However, the last RVB FFA was a very long EVE day. I arranged it with the family that I was going to be in game for quite a while and there were times where I had to step away for prepping meals for the kids and such. The wife was at work for most of it and the kids are content to watch over my shoulder and entertain themselves.
That was 15 hours. Start to finish.
I really had trouble logging in after that. Burnt me right out. Marathon game sessions like that are very very few and far between. Red Fed Grunt.-á Co-Host of the High Drag Podcast. http://highdrag.wordpress.com/

I do that a lot. I'll probably be doing that soonish myself. Got a marathon set of skills to train which always kind of suck my motivation and work is going to be hectic for me. "I think you should buy a new Mayan calendar. Mine has muscle cars on it." --áKenneth O'Hara

Fleet fights can last hours - many, many hours. And if you're managing base logistics or participating in sales warfare, well, you can burn a LOT of hours, every day.
Frankly, Guild Wars was me at my worst, but even in EVE there are times and events where I have to block out six or ten hours at a go - I'm a corp director, and that sometimes means you've just got to spend the time. With three other people wanting the computer, well...
So, in sheer self-preservation (which means, among other things, preserving my relationships), I try to advance-warn everyone and schedule the large time blocks well in advance. We'll negotiate computer access - "You can have it from here until there, but then I get it from such until the other, and then the girl will have it for so long, before rotating it to the boy..." Solves fights, usually. Except when my wife fails to turn-over at her allotted point - She's notorious for that. Which results in three people staring at her, arms crossed and toes tapping, until she logs out.
But usually, the negotiations work. Sometimes peopel will negotiate chores in exchange for extended time: "I'll give you an extra hour of my time if you'll do the dishes." Then, there is of course, le amour. And for that, she resorts to unfair tactics; which tactics I do not resent or resist. If that's what she has in mind, well... EVE can go hang; I'll straighten out the mess later.

Then, there is of course, le amour. And for that, she resorts to unfair tactics; which tactics I do not resent or resist. If that's what she has in mind, well... EVE can go hang; I'll straighten out the mess later.EditedAdded expanded material to first paragraph.
Le Amour aggro, best aggro!
With 4 people competing for time on the computer, I resorted to purchasing a couple more computers for my household. Wife got a laptop for doing schoolwork, eldest son got a laptop for doing schoolwork and youtubing, BOTH kidlings got a desktop (thats better than mine *sniffle*) for doing their gaming and I alone take command of the dinosaur that could.

To what lengths have you gone to minimize Aggro? Finances are kinda tight - and space is even more tight. I keep intending to install a wireless router, and simply haven't gotten that done. I *do* have a second box, but it will need substantial configuration. One of these days, I'll even get it done. So, instead, we negotiate. It works. ;)
(plus, it gives me an excuse to kick my son outdoors to go play in the physical world with actual IRL friends - Always a benefit)

As it worked out, the laptops were cheap and not nearly top of the line but adequate for the wife and the eldest son's needs.
The Kids computer was a purchase from overage we had saved for buying a different vehicle. (got a better price so the balance went into the computer). This is by no means top of the line either.
My poor desktop is 5ish years old and has nearly everything upgraded/replaced. However, the gerbils are getting very tired.
Plan is when the wife is done with school (18 months..... ), I get a new(er) computer. Red Fed Grunt.-á Co-Host of the High Drag Podcast. http://highdrag.wordpress.com/

Ah, the old four computer household. I have one of those. "Dad, I can't print." "Dad, we don't have internet. We've been waiting all day for you to get home." "Dear, I can't get this DVD to play on my laptop." "Sam, this funny blue screen appeared and then my computer just died." And then there are the ipods, smart phones, kindles, and whatever else to keep connected and running in perfect order.
It's probably the same for you guys. They way our dads were always out working on the family car, we're always working on the family tech. |

I think this depends completely from couple to couple. A while ago i met this couple that were former WOW players (they quit after nearly getting a divorce because of the game), and having played WOW my self i can definatly see how it can get...bad really fast.
In wow there is a lot more group pressure. Be the best, have the best gear, be in the best guild, know the est ways to kill a boss and so on. If you cant do these things your basically left on the sidelines unable to fully experiense everything WOW has to offer (and raiding is a big part of that). Thus you end up spending hours and hours grinding, cant miss those daily quests, have to be there ready in line for any raid even if you dont know if you will be allowed to join and so on.
In EVE there is a lot more freedom and less..group pressure. Ofc you still have CTA's, alliance and corp meetings, drama and so on, but in general people understand that "real life comes first", a rule that seems to not exist in WOW.
But when is the aggro justefied.. I would say when your better half is not playing the game because its fun, but because they feel they have to, and their mental health is getting wrecked because of the pressure (anyone in a leadership position can understand this one), or when EVE becomes more important then doing things you need to do, such as working, paying bills, go and buy some food, and your wish to interact with someone outside of the game disapears completely in favor for online friends (now im considering famely as "someone outside the game").
It would have to be for a longer period of time tho...A week or two i can easely imagion someone getting them selfes lost in a game, but for a month or more..thats when i would consider it becoming a problem and would try to have a conversation with the other person trying to figure out what can be done to prevent things going even more out of hand. So not really aggro i guess, but certanly a reaction. I think in a situation like that any amount of yelling and screaming wont do any good and only lead to the problem getting worse since it enforces the idea that you need to hide away in "your own little world". Only a two person household here so slightly smaller scale. I have my desktop which is my domain. Prior to this I used my ancient laptop that could run 1 eve client on lowest settings and it was just lucky that I do market trading since thats all it would let me do.
My laptop also served as our media centre, and my mrs is addicted to Ugly Better and other western dramas meant she demanded the use of it almost constantly. This was back in early 2010 when I'd just started my current job and all money was going into support for our apartment with furniture etc etc. So a pc wasnt a high priority at the time.
Once work started picking up, (I work at a start up, so it was only 7 of us splitting whatever we made 7 ways at the time, quite literally hand to mouth existence) I started planning my beast of a PC. Since I had some money in my pocket I wanted to build a very nice PC and I did so, buying the parts in increments over several months and I was content and the old laptop went into dedicated media machine.
The Mrs herself still demanded a lot of attention as she didnt have much to do. I was on a full "oh my god ive missed games" binge and buying half of steam it felt like. The solution was to buy her a small netbook for skype to her mum and friends etc, and then for her birthday last year I got her the tablet for her to enjoy her reading and pre marital bliss has ensued mostly.
Now its usually me giving the aggro. In the form of our two glove puppets we have. When the mrs is REALLY focusing on her reading on the sofa there is nothing better than sneaking before the sofa and slowly bringing a cute Punch and Judy crocodile puppet into view. Sometimes shes gotten wise and doesnt react. Other times she is so focused when she sees a cute green crocodile on her peripheral vision she freaks out and it is wonderful! You know i'm all for eve and all that. But it may be a bit much.
I quite eve during my last relationship because of time contraints and her need for attention, also our vastly differing interested played a mayor part in the inevitable breakup.
Although I'm not gonna say that breaking up and being able to return to eve made me happier per se. I love the people and the game and eve is still my main hobby (read: obsession). But I'd rather not be alone and be able to share this hobby. (or at least find someone who can deal with it).
Sure friends and hobbies outside of ever are great, but at the end of the day you still go to bed alone and wake up alone.

So the hobbit and 3 extended movies later and a lot of cuddles, popcorn and arguements over the sofa and im up as i have to get back into my work habit and shes all warm and toasty in bed.
Also, never buy a small sofa. It doesnt mater if you are two people. Get the biggest sofa possible. This makes movie marathons much nicer.

We only have a three seater, which used to be very nice since we could easaly cuddle up and watch TV or a movie.. But then we got a cat... For some odd reason she does not like us being next to each other so now the middle "pillow" is hers and if anyone dares to sit there she will stand right infront of you and stare at you with piercing green eyes until you move. Its not because she wants the spot right then, she just wont tolerate anyone using it. Used to be worse tho, when we first got her she would start to howl (yes howl) if we gave each other hugs or similar and dident let go within a couple of seconds

Sex is a very nice part of the arrangement, but the basis of marriage is to have someone who will watch your back, cover your ass, keep the home fires burning, applaud your successes, commiserate with your defeats, and discuss plans for turning the latter into the former - then encourage you to get up the next day and do it all over again.
'Tis a reciprocal thing. Which is why communication and negotiation must be part of the package.

Hardly upset with it, and if that's what you read, you need to learn to read between the lines. Are there moments of anger or frustration? You betcha. That is also part of the package - A fixture, rather than a feature, if you will. An inescable reality that can be managed, or can be your doom, depending on how smart you are about it. Kinda like how Gravity is a fixture of living on the planet Earth: respect it, or learn to work with it, you're fine. Treat it with contempt, and it will kill you very, very dead. OK, here's a wife aggro story. Not a great one, but on-topic at least.
I'm in an FW pick-up fleet in a Thrasher. Maybe my second one ever, and I'm not very experienced at PVP fleets and using voice comms. Enemy militia fleet warps in, I burn to the nearest thing (a Thrasher) and get a tackle. FC says "Maller is primary, Maller is primary." So I'm thinking six things at once: Where's that Maller? Dang, I don't spot him in this pile of ships on overview! Should I sort overview by ship type? Should I switch targets from the Thrasher? What's the range to the Maller? Too far to quickly burn there? What about that Incursus next to my targetted Thrasher? Is he busy shooting the BC in our fleet, or will he tackle me if I break off? You know, one of those adrenaline OMG split-second consider-and-decide things you do in a pvp fight.
But, at that very instant, from behind my chair... wife's hands on my shoulders. Slow massaging. Completely out of synch with the sweaty high speed stuff I'm focusing on in the game. Wife [in smooth sweet voice]: "How's dad doing?" Me: "hnfn" Headset: "Got a point on the Maller." Headset: "More WTs warped in. Hurricane, Omen, Catalyst." Wife [still massaging]: "Your shoulders are really tense. It's been a really rough week, hasn't it? Relax your shoulders." Headset: [Something unintelligible that I missed]. Me: "...hurmf..." At which point, between processing the information coming in from the monitor, the headset, my shoulders, and the voice behind me, my executive decision-making neural processes overheat and fail. I make the perfectly wrong decision and decide to switch targets to the Maller. Start burning to it.... and the Thrasher and Incursus scram and web me. Headset: "Maller is into armor." Headset: "Crap! Watch that pirate fleet!" FC: "Warp! Get out, get out."
The Thrasher and Incursus pop my Thrasher. Me [Turns head slightly back toward wife, while actually watching the monitor and spamming the Dock button to try to escape with my pod. Attempts appreciative massagee voice.]: "Mmmmm, thanks honey. Ah, that feels great! Ooooo.... Aaaah...."
Meanwhile my pod can't dock, because this is an enemy-owned FW system. So while trying to remember what people enjoying a massage do, I'm clicking away to warp to random objects, . Eventually I got to a station where I can dock the pod. Me [into headset]: "I'm dead, guys. Leaving fleet while I reship." Wife: "Oh, I'm sorry. You're busy." Me: "Oh no, no. Not busy. I just needed a second to get off of the voice chat." |

Here's a recycled one that I sent Random's co-host Kyle Yanowski back in December:
So I'm a low-sec roam in Hagilur with two corp mates. We're all noobs to PVP-- our second roam I think, with no experience, no mentor, and no FC. No voice comms even. Just experimenting in Rifters, with clean KBs, and itching to get a first killmail. The day before, we had come close to killing a pirate in an MWD Stabber, before he asploded us. We did a lot of comparing notes on that fight. What we did wrong, what to do next time, who'll do what role, improving our fits, etc., etc. Very intense about it, the way only somebody brand-new to PVP can be.
So now it's the next evening, and we're back at the scene of yesterday's fail. We're in our safe spots d-scanning, all hyper-focused and tense and micro-analyzing everything. The Stabber guy who kilt is yesterday is showing up in Local, and somebody gets a scan on a Stabber at a belt. It must be him. "Should we try it?" "WTH, let's do it." "OK, warp to 0 this time." Etc. So we warp onto him, and just as we target and tackle, a couple of other ships warp in. Big, scary ships, and red sec status. Everybody's heart rate hits 150 beats/sec and we scatter in all directions. I ended up warping to the first thing I saw in overview, which turned out to be a customs office.
At that instant, from directly behind my back, came a wife aggro attack that totally suprised and startled me. "Khergit Deserters, have you seen the water stains on the ceiling tiles downstairs? [I twist around in my chair and look back]. They're getting worse! You have to fix the seal around the bathtub-- it can't wait anymore, it's going to cause damage, etc. etc." I look say to the wife, "OK OK, hang on a second, I'm in a fight." There's a little more back and forth dialogue, then I look back at the monitor. Guess what. Stabber is coming in head-on, warping to 0 on me. By the time I find the mouse and keyboard, I'm scrammed and webbed. Rifter 'splodes in just maybe two seconds.
"GF," I say in Local. -"GF But why didn't you move or fight?" the Stabber pilot says." "Well, I was semi-AFK while taking wife aggro." [ROFL, HAHAHA, WTF, dumb ****, etc. from random people in Local] -"You should dock up if you're semi-AFK and taking wife aggro." "Well, that's true." [Hmm, yeah, next time I'll do that, newbie PVPer me is thinking]. -"It's not a good kill if you were taking wife aggro and semi-AFK." "No man, it was a good kill. It's not your fault I was taking wife aggro." -"No, it is not a good kill." "Seriously man, it was a good kill. There's no way you could have known I was taking wife aggro." -No, it was not. Anyway, good-bye." [Exits Local and system.]
No comments from my usually talkative corp mates. Such a humiliating loss that the winner didn't want to accept the kill.
So in this case, the wife got a double kill. Me, and the guy whose KB is permanently contaminated with a wife aggro kill.

But having that video on demand stuff gives her the wild idea that i like to watch movies with her a lot (wich i dont, just watching a movie bores me to tears and i dont watch tv at all)
So recently i got me a new laptop, a nice T430s with the addtional bay battery which gives it quite some stamina. What happens now is that the SO wants to see some movie (usually something semi-interesting, she isnt really into chick flics) and asks me to join so she can cuddle on my side.
well. so far she was always sound asleep before the battery got below 75% while playing eve |

Any suggestions for music on this particular subject? Go retro: Proud Mary. The Tina Turner version. Tell someone you love them today, because life is short. But scream it at them in Esperanto, because life is also terrifying and confusing.

One of the most annoying, nauseating songs ever, but it might be kind of funny.

Recorded the episode last night. Will be discussing who gets the 100mil. Ha ha! I was just thinking of that movie this morning. Footage on the news of a block-long line of police cars going to the bombing suspect's house. Followed by two public transport buses full of cops. A serious situation, but still, it reminded me of the horde of cops in the Blues Brothers. What a great movie! |

Congratulations man, you won 100 mil isk. It has been deposited into your wallet. Your story was read on the High Drag podcast episode 10.

Most legitimate necro-thread, ever.
Edit: Sorry that you will be a little self-conscious from now on when typing "High Drag" as per earlier thread today There is much to be said in favour of modern journalism. By giving us the opinions of the uneducated, it keeps us in touch with the ignorance of the community.-á-á-á-á - Oscar Wilde |

We'll probably revisit it every few months since it seems to be a fun topic that none of the other podcasts want to touch. At least the EVE based ones.
My guess would be summertime or fall. Will necro the thread or start another and gather up more stories. Red Fed Grunt.-á Co-Host of the High Drag Podcast. http://highdrag.wordpress.com/

Thanks Random! My wife and I will enjoy listening to the podcast. That's right, I'm going to make her listen to it and reflect on her behavior. That ought to stop the waggro once and for all. Yeah, right....
Looking forward to the next one-- hope you guys spawn some more good waggro tales. Better you than me! |

And Silens i love the tangent they went off on your story. Yup. I was not expecting that - and it was a good tangent. Positive and negative re-enforcement are both effective behavior-modification tools, but one of them is not resented.
