Let's say theoretically my great aunt left me 1bn ISK. I am a new player with practially no skills built up. What's the best ROI for my aunt's 'investment'?
And no, I'm not going to put it all into my crappy Venture and fly into low-sec. |

Look me up in game. Right click my name Give money type in 1.000.000.000 ISK Hit enter.

Seriously:
Make an alt on your account and dump it on it. Kind of like a bank-account. Only take what you need. Being spoiled by selling a GTC / 2 PLEX will ruin the game as you will start buying stuff without the income to support it. |

if you want to make your money work for you, you can ask in MD. just be sure to not hand your money over to someone who is not trustworthy.

I bought about 1B a week into the game to start trading and found myself earning a few PLEX worth soon after. It was a bit difficult to get from 10m to 100m, and what little profits came in went to reinvesting. |

What do you want to do in game?
If you are into trading... use it to bank role you buy/sell orders.... If you are into Manufacturing... use it to buy building supplies like minerals, BPO's (preferably researched), etc... If you are into PvP... use it to buy a ton of cheap ships and fittings (like frigates with meta 2 fittings) and go out and lose them while learning how to win fights in PvP... If you are a mission runner... buy tags to up your standings? Buy a mission boat? whatever... If you are into hauling... use it to cover collateral... If you are the "invest in your future type"... use it to buy +5 Attribute implants... If you are into .... it's easy to spend 1b isk...
Use it wisely... and most importantly, use it to have fun.
Also, remember the Parable of the Talents... Don't bury it on an alt!
Things you shouldn't use it on: A "down payment" or "collateral" to help you get into a corp (thats a scam) To buy some product to immediately resell for some huge profit (that's probably a scam) To bling out a ship for PvP (you'll lose it) To bling out a ship for PvE (you'll lose it)

When I first started playing I was all like "screw pve man" and blew through a bil like it was an eight ball in a sorority house. Now I am poor and only very fractionally better at pvp then I was then. On the bright side, it did teach me to throw caution to the wind and engage everything that moves. |

If i were new i would use it on skils i think i would be interested in later on. I can imagion it would be very tempting to throw it all into some faction ships and mods and fly out to 0.0 or whatever thinking that your unbeatable, but this would just be a fast way to loose the ISK and be back at 0 with nothing useful coming from it.
But i also agree with J'poll that the ISK should be transferd to another character on your account for safekeeping. That way you wont accidently spend it, and with some self control you will force your self to learn how to earn ISK the "hard way" and thus appriciate it more in the long run. Buy two PLEX, thus saving some IRL cash.
Then play the game instead of looking for the "easy mode" button. So... i started an industry blog at www.derbk.com/eve There i am preparing a guide to all things related to manufacturing. Check it out!

J'Poll wrote:Make an alt on your account and dump it on it. Kind of like a bank-account. Yep, this. Give 900 mil to an alt and forget you've got it. Then when you've learned to play the game and know exactly what you want to spend it on, you will appreciate it a lot more. You could spend it on some shiny things now but you'd probably lose them and in a few months time you'll really kick yourself that you wasted it. |

Honestly? Buy a bunch of PLEX, get a couple months of free subscription out of it.
Hang on to whatever's left, use it to replace ships and so on. |

First of all, welcome to Eve. Glad you already know the most important rule of Eve: (1) Don't fly anything you can't afford to lose. (Putting that 1B in ANY small ship and undocking would be foolhardy - CONCORD might only arrive in time to avenge you, not to save you)
Please be mindful of rule Nr. 2: (2) If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. (Players will be out to scam you. Familiarize yourself with the most common scams before doing anything with that money.)
Now what to do with the money - it is actually up to you. A decent set of +3 or +4 Implants would probably be high on my list (The skill must flow). Also you may want to take a peek at the "new character skill booster" thingies (Cerebral Accelerator) - they boost your attributes (more SP/h) and give some other boni, but expire after some time (they come in different flavors). Then decide what you want to do: Combat (PvE or PvP) - you have enough ISK to go through a few ships (just limit your modules to T2 at most for now) Industry or PI? Trading? Whatever is most fun for you! |

Do whatever is most fun for you! Quoted for truth. Implants will help you train things faster - they're a good investment.

Invest in my super capital production company. Apparently booking your flight & accomodation to Iceland BEFORE you buy the tickets for the convention which is pretty much the only reason you wanted to go there in the first place is popular. |
