bear with me if its ever been suggested.. but when in a slow boat I'd gladly have sacrificed at least 10m3 drone space for one bot to fetch cans and bring them to within 1500 m of me, it would save me alot of time in some cases.

I believe I've run across a few threads suggesting scavenger drones, and maybe heard some rumours that something like this may be in the works already. Still, I fully support this idea, and even if this isn't the only thread positing this idea, makes it even more of a reason to this going.
Shouldn't be that hard to put in would it? Basically a mining drone that mines loot instead of asteroids? Couldn't be that much of a balancing issue as it's just for picking up loot after kills.
Only reason I can think of off-hand that we wouldn't already have this would be current system may allow it to be easier to ore thieve. (And i'm not going to touch the whole ore thief contreversy with a ten-foot pole, even though I'm a miner/hauler for the most part.)
Back to the original idea, though. Fully signed, I really like this idea.

Edited by: Urza Rast on 29/08/2005 19:04:40 I have played EvE for over 2 years now with a group of friends and this has come up many times. I think the first time was when we found out about rolling spawns in the old days and using Indys pick a few hundred cargo cans this would be great to have a drone that would grab loot.
:note: We did this before we knew that CCP looked down on rolling spawns.
I think their is an easy way that you might stop ore thieves from exploiting this type of drone. Set in the code that drones can't pull from a named cargo can.
So just setting it so (target<name> default = yes) not sure on code script but you get the idea that can only putting from cans that have the default name.

Why does it have to be a drone, why can't it be a highslot module?
Oh right, it's ok to screw drone users royaly by making them give up their weapon for the easy-looting-tool but not turret and missile users...

above posters idea: a tractor beam.. can only pull in mass at a speed relevent to the mass of the item being 'tractored' and the mass of the ship utilizing the tractor beam. IE: a BS can tractor a Intiy from 50km, but it is hard(the inttercepter can fight the pull and avoid being tractored, etc) and a can with 50m3 of cargo volume can be pulled quick. (forget mass, instead use mass/volume ratio to determin speed the item is pulled toward the tractoring ship)
Make it a expesnive modual to equip so only larger(cruiser + sized ships) able to equip it. Sort of like a Nostrafu, but drags items instead of energy toward you.

An inty with MWD on heading away from you should be able to escape the tractor beam though.

and inty with a MWD shud pull the bs with it rofl! only way for BS to escape wud be to disengage the tractor ;P
Plus the engine strngth shud be included, so it's like inty vs battleship = ferrari vs hummer....
