I want to play this game in the worst way. I have tried about a dozen times. I don't expect much, just some fun and try to get involved in all the fun I keep hearing about online. I would like to get a few things accomplished: 1. I am thinking maybe a career like black ops or EW. I prefer a support role, I am not a front line type. I prefer to make the enemies life miserable. 2. Join a Corp that gets involved, and can use someone who is most comfortable in a suuport role. 3. I want to try Caldari 4. Info on where to get started, and how to advance. I don't need someone to drag me along, just a hint once and a while.
Like I said, I really want to make a go of this, but it is very intimidating to the common folk. What is the best place to find info that I can follow, and not pester people in the chat channels?
Any help is greatly appreciated. |

Try a bunch of different things, find what you enjoy and do more of it.
Given what you've said, I'd strongly think about training for a Blackbird EW cruiser - to fit that, you'll get most of the skills you need for a Caracal/Drake for making spare cash in missions or ratting.
I'd strongly consider fitting up a bunch of cheap frigates and joining Faction Warfare - merlins or kestrels to start, then once you make some contacts and fly in some fleets, changing to EW frigs.
Once you've got the income to replace them, fit up some Blackbirds and start making a pain of yourself - but learn to stay aware and warp out when yellow-boxed, as EW cruisers arent very good at taking damage.
I wouldnt join a corp too quickly, as its easy to join a bad one, but certainly ask questions here and in help channels. Have a look at Eve-Uni, RvB and Brave Newbies.
Start by doing all the tutorials. Then try different things, and do more of what you enjoy. |

Well playing the game in the worst way would be to join a corp, wait till they trust you and grants you roles, clean em out for all they've got, and then keepon killing them until the manage to kick you (which can be days if you play it smart)
Anyway assuming this is not what you meant, and just wanna be a **** against the enemy E-war would be a good choice. Personally i think the curse messes up the enemy the worst, with both tracking disruption and cap warefare, but it's mainly taste. :p.
A blackbird can also do substial harrasment. and a rook even better. (so that's 1 and 3 down)
Most corps will be happy to have support E-war pilots, just look aorund for a corp that activly engages in pvp. RvB may serve as a great training ground.
Most corps will also help you on your way with tips and advice. If your corp doesn't do that, it's a bad corp and you should look for another.

Well.
1.) Start doing ALL tutorials. They give you sense of direction, some ships and skillbooks and fatten your wallet a bit. 1a.) Do the Sisters of EVE Epic Arc. This is kind of the "unofficial" tutorial epic arc and gets you an even bigger wallet.
2.) Dowload EVEHQ / EFT / EVEMON and plan on what ships you want to fly.
3.) Keep in mind, though people will love Ewar pilots, you aren't always needed in the fleet. Sometimes the fleet just asks for DPS grunts. Also, Ewar (specially the Caldari ECM boats) tend to get called primairy in fights. So I do suggest to not focus 100% on Ewar NOR black ops. The latter one because there aren't many black ops actions in EVE, they are there, but not as general as normal conventional PvP or Capital PvP.
4.) Find a corp that does what you like to do and that is active in your timezone.
5.) There is no real advancing, at least, not like the typical XP grinding MMO. Skills are trained in real time. So in time you will get more options (more ships to fly, more modules to use, etc.)
6.) Core skills are ALWAYS good to have, no matter what ship you fly, no matter what role you play. They WILL help.
7.) Communicate. Talk to people, hang out in public channels (from both corporations and personal capsuleers). While still in the NPC corp, talk in corp chat (NPC corps too have great pilots in them) and talk in local.
Rule 1 with EVE communication: It's like a mirror. Be nice and friendly and you can expect that the other side will react nice and friendly. Rage at someone and expect the same back. Whine about stuff and people will just laugh at you.
TL:DR = Your questions are way to general. You are more or less asking how should I play EVE and that almost made me NOT post here. |

1. so train for it. IN GENERAL, if you find the blops ship, it's T1 variant will also be used for screwing with people (note, this doesn't hold for the blops battleships, save for teh caldari scorpion).
2. I would have normally also said E-UNI, but there has been some crazy going on lately that is giving me pause. Brave Newbies seems like they're doing pretty well for themselves (or at least I haven't seen any whining from/about them yet)
3. get caldari skills then. HOWEVER, as you're Amarrian, I would suggest that you hold off on cross-training for at least your first month or so, being a rookie is hard enough as it is without watering down your core tanking / gunnery skills. This way you'll have a solid base of fitting and support skills to build off of, rather than struggling with 2 weapon platforms, tanking methodologies, etc.
I'm not saying you can't -- just that you'll find you progress more slowly overall til you have those core things trained (and, actually a fair number of them will cross over anyway).
4. Google and the forum search are your friends. One of the bitter points of a good bittervet is the realisation that all those SP don't really do much, and that the newbie is having much more fun with what little he has. - Tippia Malcanis for CSM8 |

One thing you'll need to cope with is dealing with lots of conflicting advice, as everyone has different ideas.
I'd advise you against initially training for both Ammarr and Caladri ships, as your initial skill training is pretty irrelevant - for Caldari ewar/blops (ie Blackbird/Manticore), you arent going to be using the armour tanking or laser gunnery skills at all.
Later, sure - but initally, I'd go for shields, missiles and ECM, plus the usual 'core' fitting of Electronics and Engineering skills. |

There is no need to reroll - unless you need to dump a bad name or a bad history. All your old skill points will be useful sometime :) |

ugh ... guess I wasn't clear enough. What I meant was that while OP is free to stop and pick up Caldari skills right now today, it's probably a bad idea since there is little that will overlap in the ways of armament and tank (amarr are lasers/drones* and armor tank, caldari are missiles/hybrids* and shield tank). As always, core skills (PG/CPU/other support skills/etc) are used by everyone.
*Note -- yes, some amarr boats use missiles, and some caldari boats use drones, but there's still not enough overlap here where a crosstrain would be easy as a young player.

EW's about it. That and maybe AFKing stealthed in 0.0 to reap carebear miner tears. The primary support type, tackle, is VERY much front-line.
Quote:2. Join a Corp that gets involved, and can use someone who is most comfortable in a suuport role.
FW and 0.0 corps are the only people that really use EW-focused pilots. Everybody else will generally need you to be able to fly other things.

Go for it. Missiles, blasters, railguns, and passive shield are your primary race-specific tools.

Join a corp, basically any corp for nudge-style advice. The previously suggested starter path of "all tutorials" to "sisters of Eve epic arc" to "RvB/FW-scale PvP" is a good starting point, as far as finding a corp it's mostly a matter of keeping your ears open and not being afraid to fleet up with people. |

Not only that, the 1 logi cruisers just had the ever-loving everything buffed out of them.
A T1 logi is ~20% the cost of a T2 logi, and about 60% as effective.
The ships to look for are armour - Exequor/Augoror - and shield - Scimitar/Basilisk.
The Exe and Scimitar are self-reliant, the Augoror and Basi work with cap chains, lending each other energy. |
