So cruisers were fixed last content patch, how about boosting them?
Now intys are fast tacklers (with considerable firepower), while bs are tanks and/or damage dealers, slightly leaving cruiser squished in the middle. They dont really have anything that sets them apart.
Med slots are quite valuable for pvp, so how about making cruisers the med slot heavy ships; +1 or 2 slots and +20/30 cpu for all cruisers, including bb
Hopefully that would give them a role as general purpose pvp ship:
frig: tackling cruiser: medslots, fleet backbone bs: tank / ranged damage
powerful? i'd say. Overpowerd? i dont think so, but what do you all think? -

I think it would be interesting to add +1 med slot to all cruisers, but NOT tech 2 ones. HACs are already good.
tech 1 cruisers could use another boost, except thorax, cause it's drone bay is way uber right now.
it would be nice to see more cruisers flying around.

i think cruisers are fine as they are.
maybe a slight pg boost for those that need it (including the thorax in exchange for drone bay being reduced).

The problem with the rax, isn't its drone bay... its the ability to fit oversized plates ... unplated rax = tissue paper ..... plated rax = overpowered.
But back to the original topic, it would be nice to see cruisers get a decent boost and make them more viable in combat.. and as you say the fleet backbone. |

Cruisers are overpowered at the moment. Oversized plates give them the same armour as a bs. The thorax even more so since it can have 8 heavy drones too. Plus its fast. ----------------------------------------- wts all new "burberry" warp core stab II's |

This is a flaw(imo) with plates, and affect frigs as well as cruisers. Also, the thorax is a special, and by now rather silly, case of ccp listening to the whining horde.
But thats not what this is about.
One or two extra med slots would give cruisers a chance to have a few tricks up its sleeve to compensate for their averageness, and should spice up combat slightly. If this means theres fewer gank bs flying around, even better. -

Edited by: Vishnej on 27/08/2005 19:18:36 I'm more in favor of 2400mm, 3200mm, 4000mm plates for battleships. Makes the whole "oversized," label relative. Same with shield extenders and cap batteries.
Thorax needs a 1000m3 dronebay, simple as that - the plate boost makes the other cruisers much closer to the effectiveness that they should be.

Quite happy this thread shows up...
Cruisers would be more appealing if frigs (T2 of course) didn't do so much damage.
Assault frigates deserve some power, granted, but interceptors deal far too much damage.
I always was under the impression that interceptors had a specialized role, which is tackling stuff, so team play is emphasized.
At the moment, frigs fleets are just too good (and that's one of my main occupations).
Feel free to disagree, of course, frigs are amazing funny ships, but quite send cruisers into oblivion.

Cruisers are anti-frigate weapons. They can get enough speed to catch a speeding frigate, web it and keep up with its top speed while they take it out. A fleet of 20bs and 10 interceptors would take out a fleet of 30bs more often than not, but throw a few cruisers in there on either side and the interceptors suddenly lose much of their effectiveness. They are somewhat caught in the middle, the cruisers. Little fastish ships with some tackling ability and some damage ability. Some of them make good EW platforms, others make good support fire with drones and such. I very much see cruisers as a nice little cheap versatile ship. Easy to replace, cheap and reliable. They're support ships, to augment the main battleships without committing huge resources to the battlefield by adding more BS. The reality of the situation, however, is that pilots are the most limited resource, not ISK or ships. This leads to people using BS instead of cruisers.

Cruisers are utility vehicles. Most can be setup for a variety of roles, and thier cost insures they can be replaced. For EW they are excelent in that manner. They also provide some anti-frig defense while playing with radars.
I like my cruiser nub mobiles, I spend more time in them than BS's. But I'm insane so, meh.
