It has been recognised that Eve had some of the best graphics of 2003/4 and I'm sure its graphical qualities are holding up well in 2005.
In light of this, I'm quite surprised there isn't an Eve Benchmarking Tool. Most other games recognised for graphical goodness (Half-Life 2, Far Cry, Doom 3 to name but a few) have a benchmarking tool.
How come Eve doesn't?

Quote: State Recording in the Client
We want to enable recording of scenes in the client to a file which can then be replayed with another EVE client. The reason is twofold. Players can record more data and share it in full quality and benchmarking of the client by commercial entities become far more feasible.

Edited by: knifee on 28/08/2005 09:16:52 wasn't there a post a cpl weeks back about creating a benchmark tool along with some kind of 'player' capable of playing back in gmae events with the client, think demo makeing??
Cant for the life of me find that post now
edit: yer what Hakera said :)

it might have been a good benchmark in 2003/2004 but its far from top notch graphics now ;p still nice but def not enough for a benchmark.

Quake III is a long way from being state of the art graphics these days, yet you still see benchmarks using it. Elaron

Thats is because many games run off of that engine. Name another game that runs off the Eve:Online engine. ===================================================

That's not the reason.
The QIII engine is very OpenGL heavy, and uses a lot of basic features that most vid cards ought to have (like hardware T&L). It is basic and can run at bottleneck speeds, also something nice to test.
Besides, not a lot of games use the engine anymore, it's gotten quite old - the ones that do use an advanced version which can't be compared to the original. Just as Splinter Cell uses an advanced ue2.x engine, not the ut2003 engine.

Aquanox is used as a benchmark.
Who the hell plays Aquanox?

Aquanox? Don't you mean Anachronox? Wait... no... Anachronox was built from the Quake II engine.
Good game though. Well, I liked the story. ---

Aquanox and Anachronox are 2 entirely different games. The latter was better, though......

Are we talking the post-nuclear fallout submarine sim?
If so, yeah, that game rocked.

A standalone EVE engine based graphics benchmark, like showing a prerecorded battle inside EVE, along with trailer scenes, serves not just as a handy benchmark but also as an advertisement for the game.
