Any chance we can have tabs in our local items, like the corp hangar's have? I end up having to keep things in seperate containers to keep them in order, but then I have to spend all my time unlocking them anytime I want to use them. Be nice to have 3 or 4 tabs in Items, so we could seperate ammo / mods etc.
Wondering what anyone else would think of this.

In terms of user friendly - love the idea
It's a Dog eat Dog World out there and I'm wearing Milky Bone underwear

I was just thinking about this today, was going to start a one-man corp JUST so I could have a nice 'sort' feature by piling my stuff in different hangars (in the same station, I already put different things in different stations), or even just different tabs of the same hangar (which I assume divisions are anyways)...
So, yes, I'd love this functionality...

Use the assets icon.
When selected with station it's organised into type (within a certain amount anyway).

i like this idea too, with the tabs being nameable like the corp hangar and folders in p&p ___________________________

This feature gets requested alot and has been addressed quite a few times as well.
Basically i believe in terms of database managment it is not feasible to impliment seperate (corperate hanger) tabs for individual players. The dubious solution implemented bt CCP was the station hangers (which personally would have been fine for me if you could turn of the auto-locking feature when placing new equpiment into them.) And if they were available in 0.0 stations. :\

well... yea.. but i think what most people want is a bit of a sorting like p&p only its a client side folder, kinda like when you switch comps and your neatly sorted folders are gone and your bm's are splattered all over. Agreed that until something else comes along we should use assets and containers, but it would be nice for player choice for things like, [my minerals][battleshipstuff][junk/recycle][components] on top of window where the player can name them to his/her choice.
the info would be separate from the server side and not cause any difficulty with server lag since the server still compiles it in one big lump anyway, and users get a visual aide to help them ___________________________

station containers would be usable as pseudo-tabs ... IF THEY DIDN'T LOCK EVERYTHING. I'd rather buy a bunch of giant secures than have to deal with unlocking everything all the time.

thats my problem.. why do they need to be locked? :|
I dont mind having seperate containers for each thing.. but unlocking them in is a pain in the keister. Why not have an option to allow ppl to NOT have things lock when they go in the containers, it'd certainly solve my problems. I mean seriously.. who even WANTS things to be locked in their cans?

The could just designed it as two comboboxes in the items windows. The first one with generic options like (Weapons/modules/Ammo/minerals) and the second with more detailed choices, like for for components (All/high/med/low) and for ammo (All/Large/Medium/Small). This could all be handled on the client side and wouldn¦t increase the DB loads. Of course it¦s not as good as having custom hangers like we have for the corps but it would be a drastic inprovement and should be rather "easy" to implement.

And looking at your stuff remotely with assets gets borked with cans.
Just implement folders. Works dandy for bookmarks, and its all sqlfoo anyhow...just need to go through the db restruct. Have the query dig only to the first level upon opening it with subsequent queries upon tree expansion and you might even get a performance boost en route.
*edit - depending on how much extraneous data is trimmed from queries. Course, more queries == bad if people clickety a lot, but dont need multi-queries o'course.

How about an option also that lists all your items, what thier current market value is in the region automatically will save some time, specially for new folks who dont have the price of every item memorized. Keeps from having to click everything and find out.
How about another option that does a *melt all items under xxxx isk down* -----------------------------------------------

Yes. I HATE that.
Using assets to help sort contents is half-baked, and frankly, pretty embarassing if I have to explain to a non-EVE player that this is how I manage items in my favourite game.
I stockpile items at one station, and the amount of time waiting for the list to be generated is just long enough that there is no way I'm going to rely on that method for inventory management.
Folders/tabs in a personal hangar can be client-side. They don't have to have anything to do with corp. The benefits to the players outweighs the implementation work by the order of several million Megathrons.
And the Station Container argument falls flat on its face when you consider they aren't readily available in 0.0. (If any container types were available, but expensive, that would be one thing, but they aren't easy to find, period).
In 0.0, I've got a hunting ground close to a station with no reprocessing facilities. At the end of a hunt, in my hangar, I've got tons of loot to reprocess, a few items I want to use, and a bunch I want to sell at a future date. All this crap is slammed into my single hangar. Managing all this is a pointless waste of time.
Travelling 20 jumps takes a long time, but in the spirit of the game, it's not pointless. Sorting through 150 items in a tab-less hangar is just plain pointless. Fix it, and I will send you all Valentines Day cards. |

If we can't have tabs like corp hangers, then plz plz plz stop locking everything entering station containers. Really, who used that feature anyways???
And for those people that say, just use the search assets function....umm, NO!!
I like to have everything organized in a fashion that is efficient and easy to access. Yet, CCP seems bent and determined to make life hard for those organized people out there.
Again, plz plz plz stop auto-locking station containers......
