Since CCP has not published the news yet, I thought I would let everyone know that the Caldari have won the surface battle on Caldari Prime with the final tally being reported here. |

I have a feeling Simon is right, the final tally there was almost even, no side can truly claim victory. factor in the simple fact that the federation can bring in whatever ships it chooses up to and including Solteur class titans, and the caldari no longer have their titan as a jump target... and it paints a pretty bleak picture for the remaining provist forces on the planet, especially now that the DUST mercs have left the scene.
freighters are still allowed yes. but if one was, as you have put it 'suiciding into gallente prime' it would be shot down by planetary defences or AA fire long before it hit the ground.
add to that the fact that until fired, (which a freighter can't do) each of those rounds has it's own magnetic containment field, and all you'd really end up doing is making a freighter sized dent in whatever your wreck landed on.
it makes a good narrative for attempted terrorist activity, but unfortunately the reality of the situation doesn't allow for freighter & ammo based bombs. Unit XS365BT. Designated Communications Officer. Unit Commune. |

Consider it as 'Territory' on the planet perhaps. Each win represents taking 1 'fort' This means something like 55% of the Forts belong to the Caldari & 45% belong to the Gallente.
This means the Gallente are still a going concern on the planets surface, they weren't crushed utterly.
The Caldari win provides an interesting place for the story to go forward from though, as with Gallente holding the orbitals, but the Caldari semi-controlling the planet, we have a lot more room for negotiated settlements & part compromises that leave things tense again.

Nevyn got there first, but basically said what i meant.
the difference is nowhere near enough to counter the fact that the Federation hold orbital supremacy. Given that the federation can ferry in as many extra troops as they like to quell the remaining provists now, and the state cannot, the situation does not look good.
of course this 'could' all change when ishukone turn up. Though they have agreed to come as civilian aid workers, not armed forces.. we will have to see. Unit XS365BT. Designated Communications Officer. Unit Commune. |

similarly nukes require a specific firing sequence to be effective. you might be able to cause a skyburst similar to the one that occurs in TEA by timing a self destruct well, but i doubt CCP would pick up on it, and even if they did it would reflect incredibly badly upon the state, which is not exactly a very caldari thing to do... no? It hasn't been a sustainable situation for over 4 years, as that titan loomed over caldari prime in the middle of gallente core space.
That the caldari titan would go down at some point was a given. (or the caldari would have had to take over luminaire completely and stomp out the entire gallente navy).
Point is, the caldari mercs on the ground are going to have a bad day, as more and more gallente forces flood the surface. System ideas: https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=191928&find=unread |

Eventual planetary ownership may be a foregone conclusion, but the fate of all the civilians planetside in the meanwhile could easily have hung in the balance. Especially since we just got a chron touching on the long-simmering resentment of the local Gallente. |

seconded
Edit: My dustie did passively choose sides.
Eveyr time I fought for the gallente I gave it may all.
Every time I fought for the caldari, I was as annoying as i could be to my team. Running into a wall of gunfire, bunnyhopping in front of tanks,, stadning in front of my teammate's shots, distracting them by shooting them in the back, crashing transports full of other bunnies, etc.
In short: in order for me to pick a side, I had to be a massive **** to my fellow mercs. (very eve style) But not exactly compelling gameplay. System ideas: https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=191928&find=unread |

Exactly but that isn't very liked on FPSes. I would love a "Join random, Join faction a, or join faction b" option on the battle finder. Sure you might have to wait for a minute or two but it would at least be an option instead of being an asshat to people. |

CCP has stated that the ability for mercs to pick their sides will be coming in the next build.
On a second note, CCP has officially declared that the Provists "maintain a shaky grasp on most districts." |
