I just noticed some PAX pirate rookie ships on the market @ Jita 4-4 (pretty cool btw!) and it got me wondering about the Quafe Catalyst... still not in any player hands! What's the holdup, CCP?

Can we get a response as to why you bastards keep making entirely new ships out of these skins instead of letting us have a system that allows for the customization of an existing ship?
Is is simply a technical issue regarding database entries or something (similar in complexity to the old request for separate BPC icons) or UI devs to change the fitting screen? Or are you just holding it back until V3 is done and doing them as separate ships now to simply give people a perception of shiny? The Drake is a Lie |

What's really wondering me is ... ... where does it say they aren't limited anymore, even if they give out more ?
Companies usually produce a specific number of limited edition items for a specific timeframe ... ... and if they don't run out of stock and sell them again at a later date ... ... it doesn't actually change the fact that they are limited edition items.
No ?
I mean ... i guess a lot of people buy these ships with the buddy program ... ... but that doesn't mean it's THOUSANDS of people ... or ? |

You're asking why giving people accurate information with which to make their ingame choices would help?
To be explicit (in language even CCP can understand): A new player might see a market section for "special edition" items and believe, as many of us did, that this means the items will not be re-released. This new player might then purchase a ship, only to find it re-released a week later as part of some failed tournament HD stream promotion promotion. This new player would then have lost a lot of ISK, and would quit the game. The new player would then mention to his/her friends that EVE is not a fun game to play.
When it comes to making ingame decisions new players should have the same information available to them as veteran players do. Veteran players know that "special edition" means the ship is neither "special" OR "limited edition", but this is never made clear to new players. This is why we need clarity over what is limited edition and what isn't. - |

Even the Apotheosis, the 5 years of CCP ship, was given out in a number of other promotions over the years. The only ones they haven't re-released are the guardian vex, silver/gold magnates, opux yhat, and at ships. Personally, I wish CCP WOULD release more of all of them, particularly the silver/gold magnates and gv. I have a GV. If more were available I'd be a lot more inclined to take mine out and start terrorizing belts or something. I don't care about ISK... I just want moar ships.

Um... uh... because you see... uh.... he would then have knowledge of the impending rarity decline, but .... uhm... uh... nobody else would?
Yeah, then he could sell his collection off before it was devalued to some other poor collector before the knowledge went ... um... public....
Yeah, giving advance warning of a re-release would certainly help out.

People tend to confuse Special Edition (Different in some way from the standard version) with Limited Edition (Only a limited number will be made available).
These things are not necessarily the same thing.
Unfortunately CCP uses the same term to describe both groups, which further adds to the confusion.
These new skins SHOULD eventually become available to everyone, and should never be tacked onto something that will not be commonly available eventually. Otherwise CCP is shooting themselves in the foot should they get to the point where all ships are available with a variety of skins.
CCP, please clean up your terminology and stop putting new skins on hulls that we commonly use and then restricting the number of them availble. If you want to make true Limited Edition items, reserve it to visually different hulls (such as the Alliance Tournament ships) or other items such as Quafe T-shirts or other items along that line.
You don't need to go thru the drama of eventually releasing a commonly available version of that ship/skin and being accused of destroying the collectors value. To carve a successful niche for yourself in EVE you need to be able to out sell, out produce, out fight,-á out run, or out wit your competitors. If you can do none of the above, your only option is to complain on the forums that somehow you are at a disadvantage using the exact same tool set-áas the rest of the player base. |

DAMN I've ALWAYS wanted to have a Guardian Vexor ! :D You basically just answered your own original question.. You can have a guardian vexor, all you need to do is find someone who owns one and purchase it from him. As it is now, the guardian vexor is a VERY rare ship and will cost you a lot of isk. So the owner/collector will either sell it to you at a premium price or not. If they re-release the guardian vexor into the game, the collector suddenly has what was once a valuable collectors item, (due to its popularity and being unavailable) now available in greater numbers which in turn reduces the value of his investment. Good for those seeking a rare ship, not good for those who now own them as an investment.

This is a great solution. I too am not a fan of the current system, where certain rare ships can instantly lose their value with a new CCP promo, while others remain unique.
CCP should definitely use two different terms, as you said:
Special Edition (may be released again at a later date, or may not) Limited Edition (no more will ever be made, like the AT ships) |
