Well. I had a char that was a miner. BUT!
I always had a problem. I had expanded cargo holds. and it was slow!! It was a pain to move back and forth.
and then I thought of a feature that would be intuitive.
What if, there was a LONG RANGE drone. Its only ability, would be able to take your inventory in your cargo hold, fly to the designated station, and drop the items into your Inventory. THEN return to your ship to be loaded with new cargo.
Their cargo holds could be opened by right clicking them, and you load them with cargo. Once you click 'Close Window' they would set off to their station.

- New form of pirating/ore thieving called drone farming
- Very hard to implement in game (much coding)
Basically you'd be making really easy to pop small industrials whitch think like npcs.

Or you could learn to use insta jumps.
A Covetor with Beta's has 6000 m^3 of cargo space. More than enough to mine by yourself quite efficiently with insta jumps.
Either that, or find a quiet system and can mine by yourself, picking up when necessary.
Or get a friend to haul for you.

well. The coding doesnt have to be implemented right away. they could take their time.

Insta jumps are being done away with in some way or form way before this new drone type will ever appear.
Instajumps is simply a bookmark that will take you exactly to the station when jumping to it at 15km. Thus all you have to do is click dock and you are in the station. (the same for belts and gates)
Anyway this drone type would only hurt the game as this is as stated a way for the macro users among us to abuse it, and for the pirates to raid. (which would be cool though)
Anyway in development currently there are a few new toys for the miner among us. I assume there will not be a way to take you mined ore to the station in a more efficient way as this would make mining way to profitable compaired to other trades. With current prices for low quality ore more and more people are setting up huge mining operations in empire space because of the ISK/hour versus risk factor. The carebears among us now have a money maker which is one of the safest around.

why not have drones that can attach themselves to your ship and use there enginepower to speed up your ship  .
i mean if i fly a dominix with 14 heavy drones what would be nice. max speed is offcourse allways less than the normal speed of the drones. sounds like fun

Tbh, there is sooooo much they can implement with drones and there have been a gazillion idea already.
Drones are still an underdeveloped part of the game and there will be one day there will be more than combat and mining drones.
Repair drones, salvage drone, EW drones... etc
I'm still keeping my hopes up high. I like drones, fly Gallente and my Memory rocks :p

but. what about actually having a animation for mining drones where they ATTACH to the asteroid...........

seen it before Coldwar :) the litte suckers SUCKED onto the roid.. now itd be AWSOME where they could engage warp drives (all 15 of em!) and haul it to to a POS.. sit it next to a Ship Maintence array and have a freighter scoop the ENTIRE ROID! it would clear those friggin MOON roids in 0.3 :)
its crazy.. the things are larger than my retriver :S
