Experienced the zero cap bug again and lost ship this time. Really am frustrated on this one. You go to an asteroid field, cap at 100%, pirates spawn, you lock, fire one shot from a heavy beam laser cap at 0%. They scramble you, try to use warp core stabilizer and message comes back saying not enough power to initialize module??? It was online when I left base had at least another 200 power units buffer when mounting all of my modules. So basically I'm starting to believe there are two bugs interfering with proper game play. One is modules go offline for no apparrent reason, two cap will go to 0% immediately. I have filed petitions on this and really hope ccp will resolve it and will return my ship and items on it. I have never complained about anything and completely accept any and all risks related to normal game play but the loss of anything to a bug is completely unacceptable. I hope my petition is answered and some action is taken on these bugs For any GM or polaris member whom may be interested here is my status at that time.

This really is very serious. I haven't lost a ship to this bug, but very close on 3 occasions.
What normally happens to me, is that I will be mining or fighting and running a shield booster (which I can run 24/7 w/o losing all cap). After an hour or so, my cap drains within seconds and the device turns off.
I also see this alot on my indy with more the one AB running. I can run them constantly, then all of a sudden, they are gobbling cap like no tmrw.
A relog always resolves this, but it makes me nervous as hell that I'll wind up in the situation you had - ship loss due to a bug.

This bug is probably fixed in the next patch, at least that's what lickspittle (dev) tells us. The bug he fixed was anyway that the recharge rate gets completely bugged, recharging super-slowly, but your client isn't aware of this and tells you your cap is recharging at a nice rate. Then, when you use some cap, it's synced to the server values (the real ones) again, creating the illusion of items using lots of cap. |

The bug is a client server sync bug.
As far as I understood from Richard the following applies:
If a module for some reason goes offline (damage) or a skill training completes that effects either Cap recharge rate of shield recharge rate, the server starts recharging the shield/cap at a far slower rate than it should be.
Your client on the otherhand charges correctly, when you then activate a module that uses cap, or take a hit on the shields, the value from the server is loaded to the client. It appears on the client as though your cap has gone.
A fix has been applied to the current chaos server, and I did extensive testing earlier, with all kinds of ships. I couldn't reproduce the error any more.
The problem was identified too late to make the 1128 patch, but as soon as the next patch goes live, I think this problem will be history. -- ISD - Bug Hunting Division |

Good to see that this VERY old bug has finally been fixed. First time I saw it was in beta 5 I think.

The modules being turned off randomly sure isn't fixed. Logged in tonight. 2 out 6 high, all three mid, 2 out of 5 low were turned off.
So I would have had, no missle racks, no shield booster, no afterburners, no tracking, range, damage or rof enhancement.
This one needs to be chased down and CRUSHED.

From what you described, it's not a client server sync bug. It's server side very serious programming bug. The good thing is you are not developer, otherwise I wonder how can a developer fix the bug without identify the correct core issue.

I doubt you'll get your ship back, I'm sorry to say... tho if you do PLEASE let me know as I'll once again bite CCP's arse!
I lost my moa and lots of good mods a few weeks ago when my client crashed and I had to restart everything... too late when I got back online!
It took about 2 weeks of petitioning and emails just to get a reply from the GMs but finally someone emailed back saying "they're sorry to hear of my loss but there's nothing that can be done as they have no way of telling how/when/where I died and/or if my client indeed crashed"... so good luck!
Show them no mercy ... for you shall receive none! |

hmm hopefully the next patch is a bugfixing one and not (as usual) a bug replacing one.

Glider, from what you say here it sounds like this can be fixed serverside.. Why don't they just do that then, instead of waiting for the next patch-release?

Got a one line reply stating that they are sorry but they have no logs of the event so can't replace my lost ship and items. How can EQ have logs and know immediately if you've lost something due to a bug but eve-online can't? I don't understand this? How difficult is it to do this? From a customer support stand point this is suicide, how many customers will they lose because of this? In EQ within an hour of losing a character do to a bug (that I didn't even knew existed) I was notified by their staff and was returned all lost items, etc. LOL I never even filed a petition and they notified me. Please institute a logging procedure this is becoming more critical as the stakes in this game increase. Who here would like to lose a player station in the future because of a bug and then be informed there is nothing they can do because no log exists of the event?
