It's a vague question I know, I'll try my best to explain.
Obviously there massive amounts of different opinions on pretty much every aspect of EVE, but I've noticed something over the years and it feels like It's a joke that I was never let in on. The opinions ideas that I read on the forums (and other places out side the game) always seem to contradict what I hear in game. I'm not just talking about a few people, I'm looking at this from a few steps back, wide angle lenses so to speak.
Forgive me if I sound like I'm off my rocker. But does anyone else feel like they see two different communities? One in Game and another on the forums? |

Yes. The community in game is generally more helpful as they don't want to put up with all the forum epeen bullshit. "Entitlement" is a euphemism for "I hate the way you play and it makes me cry like a baby". If you fantasize about being immoral it means you enjoy being immoral deep down. |

I think it's because everyone on the forums is an alt. cough.

Post with your alt. Since the cessation of their usefulness is imminent, may I appropriate your belongings? |

Try the other forums. Anything but GD. Science and Industry is helpful for example. There is much to be said in favour of modern journalism. By giving us the opinions of the uneducated, it keeps us in touch with the ignorance of the community.-á-á-á-á - Oscar Wilde |

A lot of people who post a lot barely play the game.
They are playing EVE via the forums so the perspective is a bit different.
Compound this with the fact that a minority of players post in any game's forums and, often, when one goes to the forum to post something it is a complaint or because one is upset enough to "take action" and... well.. yeah.
As noted, many of the sub-forums are full of really helpful people who care about the game and are just great folk.

I think the theory goes that people who really enjoy the game are too busy playing it to post on the forums.
Except me, anyway. |

It's because of the timezone difference.
Many people have a break during their workday, that they use to log on to the forum. At the same time, people from a different timezone are sitting at home and playing the game.
... but maybe its also because people get actually banned from the forum when they talk trash
And then there are also people who use non-eve forums to discuss things.
Mmhh, thinking of timezones ... what chat channels are you using in-game ? Because I'm pretty certain that the forum, despite of only representing 10% of eve-online players (source: I remember someone saying that, k ?), is definately a better representation of the overall eve population, compared to most ingame channels.

You realize only a very small percent of people playing in game actually come to the forums. This is a big factor in why people use alts to post, I on the other hand post from my main. ~|~(~-á (~~|~-á-á -á |-á-á (__)-á-á-á |

The forums definitely DO NOT reflex the opinions of the Eve player-base at large.
