Does anyone know if this is allowed?
I understand that third-party apps accepting donations are fine, but charging RL $s is not fine (unless you first make arrangements with legal@ccp..)
Kickstarter is somewhere between those two so... ? |

I will suggest you make a petition or email legal.
None of us can give you an answer, that will keep your back free...
Even if someone was allowed to use kickstarter before, things might have changed.

No. I'm working on a third party tool. Trouble is, what with work, 1 young child and another on the way, I get no more than an hour or so per day to work on it.
At that rate, it'll be at least a year before it's done.
I was toying with the idea of taking 3 months off work and using that time to finish my tool. Obviously, I'd still need to pay the bills and kickstarter seemed a possible answer to that. |

i would'nt get my hopes too high.
Kickstarter is basically pre-sale of something to come AND with you taking money for it through Kickstarter it IS a comercial project, and CCP doesn't want their IP to be used by those.

Theres two different things. One is the product using the EVE API which must be non-commercial. The other is the development effort behind it, which IMO cannot be regulated by CCP. If I'm going to hire someone to create a website for me which in turn will follow the EULA terms and conditions theres nothing to stop me doing that. Same should apply with the kickstarter approach described in this thread.
