I'm not sure how much information you guys might have, but the authorities could still use any help that can be offered in the areas affected by Hurricane Katrina.
If you can spare a few bucks, head over to http://www.redcross.org/ or to http://www.salvationarmyusa.org/USNSAHome.htm. Any help is appreciated. |

Quote: Broken down per person in the United States, the cost so far is $727, making the Iraq War the most expensive military effort in the last 60 years
Ironic isnt it? (This thread didn't had it's disclaimer )

Yes it is ironic.
What business did the Americans have dying in Europe by the thousands in WWII ? I'm glad back then they didnt use your flawed logic, or maybe you could salute Mein Furher at the entrance to the tube on your way to work?
Maybe you should update yourself on the Marshall Plan, which paid for the rebuilding of Europe after WW II, and also note that the US forgave its allies that never even paid the US back. Even going so far to prop up the Franc in 1957 to keep Frances economy afloat.
Damn shame the US interferred.

Without getting involved in politics, human tragedy is tragedy wherever it takes place. Whatever people think about the US government's actions, the poor kids and old folks in New Orleans suffering through disaster right now most likely aren't responsible.

Agreed, politics are a trivial thing when somthing like this happens, no matter what country it was in.

Ok, my own disclaimer first: I'm a paramedic, I've seen horrible things, misery and people suffering, I'm born to help people! To return where you call me a neo-****. No I'm not. My Grandfather was shot 10Km from where I live today by German troops on the 23rd of may 1943.
What business did the Americans have? None They didnt acknowledged war untill Pearl Harbor was attacked decemeber 7th, 1941 (Deja Thoris beat me to it). While Poland was invaded Semptember 1st, 1939. Oh, and the Marshall plan?! The US is still, to this day, making money out of it. Same deal with Iraq: The Iraquee-Marshall-plan was to rebuilt Iraq, WITH US-CONTRACTS.
I've been watching CNN about 4hrs today. All they could say is drama this, disaster that. I've watched 15Mins of my national news, and the journalist managed to save a 4 week old child and its ant, (the mother was missing), Out of New-Orleans.
This were the most chocking lines the journalist said: "We managed to rescue this family fairly easy out of New Orleans, because only the Press is allowed to get in and out of the city. It is however, not possible for relatives to enter the ciry, or FOR PEOPLE TO LEAVE THE CITY ON FOOT. Believe it or not."

Thank you for your reply.
The venom in your reply is something all "American" can surely learn from.
Americans acknowledging WW II ? The evil US government was supplying Great Britain with Covert secrets and millions of tons of supplies long before Pearl Harbour. The American Citizens were apathetic to the plight of the waring nations of Europe prior to pearl harbour. It is an interesting paradox, when you consider what one country considers important and what one considers "misguided actions." Prior to Pearl Harbour, the American Citizens didnt give 2 pence for WWII. They all claimed it was a bunch of misbehaving old monarchies fighting yet another battle for a crown of some sort. Yet during this time, history shows the US government was aiding Great Britain in its war effort. Thank goodness the government was more abreast on what a real threat was prior to its people.
Now obviously nothing of any value seems to be coming from Iraq. The people of the world seem to want to line up to bash "another battle for a crown of some sort for ole George" and yet Great Britain gives obvious aid to the Americans. It is interesting to say the least.
As for the US profitting off the Marshall Plan, do you inferr it should not have sent so much money and aid to rebuild Japan, Germany, Great Britain, and France? You've lost me a bit there. US makes money off it, so the alternative was? And if they were such darn fine greedy bastach's why did they forgive the billions of debts without requiring repayment?
I'm a novice at best regarding American politics, but I am well aware that the American Press takes sides with different political parties, and its long been asserted CNN is alligned against Georges party, and the other main news there is alligned with his party. I'm not green enough to fully believe or disbelieve anything I see on television.

Panshin Bolo is correct my friend. I speak of the Iraq situation of course. Im not going to argue endlessly about how "charitable" the American government is, ill just say I was in Iraq and the American army is not re-building but rather destroying. Im speaking for what my eyes saw, not what I saw on the news or what some teacher told me in school. =============================================== I will punch you with my laser! -Scoundrelus |
