Ok firstly let me say that I am not a carebear and that I think pirating is a legitimate path to choose. Blockading 0.4 and lower systems is a valid strategy, and is now back in the game. What I do not understand with the new security rating system is how a pirate with -10.0 security status can happily fly into 0.8 systems, let alone 0.5 systems, without any real resistance from police. Does this not throw the security system right out of the window?
Right, IÆm sure IÆll get flamed to buggery by pirates for this and called a whining carebear and what not, but if you look at it objectively it makes no sense.
And I have not been killed once at a blockade, so do not even use that crappy flame :-)

As far as I know, a -10 should be able to enter the area, but any attempts at piracy will be be swiftly shut down.
At least I think that was the intention.
I've not yet tried a low-sec gatecamp yet, so I may be wrong.
think of it as being the same as an armed robber being free to drive around london, until he does something to attract attnetion, or is recognised by the local police force. .

Edited by: Ends on 26/07/2003 11:44:42 Gate camping is weak playing, it needs to be abolished outright. Pirates need to behave like pirates. They should be mobile and organized, moving from point to point taking what they can quickly and moving out. Their natural inclination is to kill sheep wholesale in perfect safety. That is fine but sitting at a gate in huge numbers to pop helpless people is just dull for everyone. To expand on this, I'd like to see gate camping taken out of the game as a factor for everyone, not just pirates. Its just such a obvious and powerful tactic that it makes the games PvP duller and less challenging. Instead of dynamic rolling battles and fleeting engagements you get station fights and gate fights. DULL.

Edited by: Nirvy on 26/07/2003 11:50:38 Well yesterday i was stupid enough to discover a 0.0 system 5 jumps from ammold, after 4 or 5 successful hunts, i wapr back in, and warp to a roid, i suddently notice about 9 people in local, 5 of them being Moo guys..i risked the gate, got there, and suddenly noticed them all behind me, in seconds my poor rupture was warp scrambled and a minute after i was podded : I think it was Ghen who got the final hit on my pod, luckily i was insured and cloned up, and it didnt really bother me i was podded, i suddenly realised that hunting 0.0 in a rupture is risky :D
The only thing that irked me was they didnt say a thing before podding me :P Least it has taught me to check for ships and pod kills before heading to a 0.0 :P
Cant really blame moo and the other pirate corps for Camping gates, i mean where else are thay ASSURED to find victims? thats just what pirates do! It was really my stupidity that got me podded, i should have warped to a planet and sat tight until they left...but oh no..dumb ole me has to go and try to make a run for it..D'oh Mercenary | The Azath |

Edited by: Lieserl on 26/07/2003 12:41:31 But I am not talking about pirates in 0.0 systems, I'm talking about pirates roaming high security systems like 0.8.
I understand what you are saying drunkenmaster but it doesn't appear to be that way to me. I have seen pirates with -10.0 security status in 0.8 systems killing police battleships then able to roam around the system killing people who have nothing to kill for. Camping gates in 0.4 systems and lower is fine, although I actually see no point in giving such systems a security rating, but high security areas should be pretty safe.
What do you not understand Molly?

who said people with -10.0 couldnt enter 0.5+ systems? they can, but they cant stay there as concord continually attacks them. So they can travel through these systems but not stay there. Although there are ways to kill people in yulai and get out in the nick of time

Yes Viceroy I believe using the superhighway systems should have a certain amount of risk as pirates will use them to shorten travel time and I didn't say pirates with -10.0 could not enter 0.5 systems and above. But logic tells me that they would not even try to priate in 0.8 systems, which is what is happening.

Not having tried pirating in high-sec yet, I can't be sure, but it should still be feasible, if short-lived.
Maybe a lack of police/concord backup after the first batch is killed is the problem here.
I'd try it today, but, now I'm a pirate*, money isn't particularly easy to come by atm. And I don't feel like losing a cruiser :)

I'd imagine it could be done quite easily with a little co-ordination. The only thing that worries me is if anybody wants to make a pre-emptive strike on the pirates to remove them or distract them to allow others to escape - they can't ( without having the security hit or Concord teleporting in).
So there you go pirates. You've got it made, so long as you're prepared to get the f**k out of Dodge once you've done your job. You can gate camp in high sec space safe in the knowledge that nobody will fire on you first. Now if that isn't having it on a plate I don't know what is.
