Hello.
Dont know about how the T2 Barges will be like but i think more mining bonuses will be needed.
something like:
Bonus to Mining Drones: 5% more yeild per mining drone Bonus to Mining Crystals: 5% more yeild per mining crystal Bonus to Ice Harves
etc.
I think this bonuses would be good in addition to more armor, higher resistance (which most likely new T2 barges will have).

my guess is that T2 mining barges have a better defence with a minor mining rate increase... i dont think we will se them have another mining turret.. altho they realy could use a improved ice mining rate cause atm ice mining is so dull.. however if it has more med or low slot it should have some modules that improve the amount of ore mined per laser or faster mining speed..

What I'd like to see is a rip off of the ORE design and getting tech2 barges for specific races with their associated bonuses and resistances. Each one requiring level 5 mining barge plus a new racial ship skill for each barge type Gallente Barge - Bonus to Drone bay along with HAC like resistances. Amarr Barge - Increased Armor stats and repair Skill Caldari Barge - 2 Extra Mid slots for effective shield tank with HAC like resistances Minmatar Barge - Turret hard point with Damage bonus and 1 extra mid slot

OMG ! You want a Heavy assualt Mining Barge.
I have come full circle on the Barge Way of thinking, Yes tech II barges should come in, But Not yet. And they certainly shouldn't have HAC resists !

Why not? Lets say to get into a tech2 procurer you need that new racial barge skill at lets say level 1, and to get into the retriever you need the new racial skill at 3? of course to get into the tech2 covetor you need the racial skill maxed out at 5? Lets make the racial skill level 6 or so? how would that be unfair? And if you want more balance how about each racial barge requires a different secondary skills? Amarr require a certain level of repair? Caldari shield operation 2/3/5 Gallente drone operation 2/3/5 Minmatar gunnery level 2/3/5 How's that ? * Laws to suppress tend to strengthen what they would prohibit. well... while I'm not opposed to "racial" mining barges, I also think that T2 barges should still remain the sole property of ORE.
have tech 1 racial mining barges (like a named item, still tech 1 but better than standard in some way or another) with racial ship requirements, improved stats and more racially aligned features, such as larger drone bay on Gallente, more capacitor and power grid for Amarr, a 4th high power slot missile slot to match it for Caldari, and for minmatar possibly a great speed bonus to benefit those who move around a lot in their barges (in the belt itself or system to system).
as for T2 Mining barges, they should remain "ORE" brand, and require a new skill like ôAdvanced Mining Bargeö (IÆll just call it AMB) but make it VERY difficult to advance, Class 8 skill or more.
Hopefully, T2 versions of each step on the ladder of T1 versions wonÆt be laid out the same in the T2 tier, and a T2 Procurer would require AMB lv.1, a T2 Retriever would require AMB lv.2, and a T2 Covetor would require AMB lv.3. What this would allow for is two more T2 barges at lv.4 and lv5 of AMB skill, each with perhaps 4 high slots and 5 high slots respectively. That way T2 barges could potentially provide two advances over the current mining barges. First, of course is addressing the seriously lacking defense situation, the second is providing a potential for further advanced level(s) of mining capability with investment of time and money.
All T2 barges should have far better shield, armor, and hull stats than they do now. As for the resistances, I donÆt think they should be HAC level, but not far from it either. Remember, this isnÆt going to be something to take damage, itÆs going to be something to survive just enough damage to hopefully run away. (providing it can run away at the time)
No one is ever going to (effectively) use a T2 barge as a weapon platform precisely because it wonÆt have any weapon slots, just like the current T1 versions, itÆs awfully hard to mount turrets/missiles without the slots to fit them in. Drones are extraordinarily limited in their use when the ship launching them is nowhere near combat worthy, and even if the T2 barges have great resistances, they almost certainly wonÆt get bonuses to the resistances like a HAC does and the already thin defenses of shield/armor/hull wouldnÆt last very long anyway since the tanking options for a fitted barge are extremely limited given the short handed slot options and already ôtightö to fit CPU and Power grid.

I haven't played around with the numbers enough yet to figure out a decent proposal, but here is what I am thinking so far...(more to come later)
Skill: [Racial] Mining Barge (preq: Mining Barge V, [Racial] Frigate V, Anchoring V)
Barges are slightly less powerful miners than the T1 version, until you anchor them in space...then their output is increased significantly, the results of which would make the T2 Prorater a little better than the T1 Covetor, due to reduced time to mine (nearly all energy is focused into the mining lasers). This requires Heavy Water and the appropriate racial Isotope to be consumed on a x units per hour basis.
So we have an advantage and a cost associated with it....should help balance them out.
The T2 barge should also have racial advantages (such as the Drone capacity increase and/or number of drones used per level of skill for Gallente, increased strip miner range for Amarr, etc.)
I think there should also be Ice Ore Processing skills similar to Asteroid Ore Processing skills and Asteroid Harvesting Skills to reduce the cycle time of Strip Miners.
Asteroid Harvesting - Preq: Mining V, Metallurgy V --5% Bonus to Strip Miner cycle time per level

A tech II mining Barge should have increased mining Yeilds and a Natural anti warp resist Like the Haulers.
Not HAC like resists or Gunnery bonuses.
Its a mining vessel not a fighting vessel
