I'm coming from swtor to eve and on swtor pvp there is a sickness nicknamed 'stunlock" in which you are being stunned in a chain by number of players and can't do a thing until you are basically dead. that's why I didn't pvp on swotr on regular basis.
when I'm thinking pvp I'm thinking about two players using best tools they got to challenge each other in combat. But in eve seems that all the praise for pvp was kinda redundant.
Most of the time people will recommend on joining roam fleet as a strike force which I think it's ok but I've decided to run around on 0.4 trying my luck on pvp but god what an awful experience....
I was piloting an hurricane with long range guns and small horde of warrior drones... flown around a bit I've found a red marked rupture... decided to try my luck and from 30-40 km I've shot him while orbiting sending my wariior drones as well.
got him to half armor or so before his friends joined... this is the place to admit that I was indeed sucidal as I knew this tactic of "trap" where one guy waiting to be attacked near the gate and calling his friends to warp in on target but god that moment they joined I was warp disrupted\ webbed \ target lock disrupted etc... and from distance as well so basicly couldn't do anything but sit there and wait for it to blown up.
my point is that I was thinking pvp in space battles is more about utilizing the ship weapon system as offensive skills and ship shields\armor powers as defensive skills and while maneuvering around throwing some EWAR here and there but 100% of the time being "Stunlocked" is just pure pain and makes the whole hunting trip rampage useless...
without EWAR abuse it's a combat of skills utilizing ur ship but with the EWAR abuse it's like going to fishing finding a small pong with one fish where all you need is grab him with your hand.. I mean where is the sport in that?
my choices are to form a fleet like those guys goind around find some ppl going solo and stunlock them to death or going without EWAR and getting stunlocked myself.
just not fun. |

Sooooooo... you basically think that combat should be straight "fast paced gank and tank" huh?
Sorry to sound like an ass... but EVE rewards those who can best stack the odds in his/her favor. E-Bushido is not enforced. Change isn't bad, but it isn't always good. Sometimes, the oldest and most simple of things can be the most elegant and effective. |

That's not PvP, that's a fighting game.
You can buy them at your local game store, I recommend Soul Calibur.
If you're going to play an MMO, PvP by its very nature is tactical and potentially involves more than one opponent. Welcome to the late '90s. |

I didn't want to win, there was a reason I went solo, I didn't like my latest ship so I decided to destroy it in glorious suicidal battle but what's the point of it if all pvp is basically gank fleets and every where you'll go it's same trick rinse and repeat? utter meh...
I expected EWAR on pvp to have some limits, like let's say after I'm webbed for X seconds by player Y I cannot be webbed again by him for Z seconds while he recharge his web device... something to make it bit more competitive.
I mean what is the point of all that?
I'm thinking about the other side and if I would've done same thing, where is the thrill and sense of accomplishment when we are 4 people vs one person and that one person can't move at all, can't lock onto us and defenitly can't shoot us?
I think persons like that are Miner that should get out of the closet and admit they are MINERS which likes to shoot at static non moving target for the sole purpose of mining and in pvp instead of ores they get kill mail to stroke their e-peen.
you don't think that in same situation which I've described it would have been more fun and challenging let's say if I could be only being targeted by ONE system of EWAR so they would've to work bit harder to beat me? what's the point?
I was doing missions for week now harvesting some 200 mil isk in the thought pvp should be interesting experience and I wouldn't care if I'll lose my ship as I can just purchase new one but instead what I see here instead of space combat is utter game of EWAR like space hackers or something. truly after this experience I think I would've benefited more if I've made a dedicated EWAR ship just going with fleet of frigs piloted by random people I'll hire going around ruining the day for other players but then again where is the fun in that? I'll jest go mining and get same old experience of winning in pvp and in mining my minerals are sold for cash, |

One thing about combat in EVE: if you trip up, you land on a slippery slope to disaster. You're almost always guessing about what the other guy has working for him; if you're worried about things like webs and scramblers, you need to figure out what the counters to them are. You can set off an ECM burst, or throw ECM drones at the adversary, or try to flatten their capacitor reserves so they can't power their E-war, or you can keep dancing outside their E-war range. You adversary is usually performing his own balancing act; you just don't see it, because it's usually not as simple as the game disabling a module once it's been used so that it can recharge. EVE pvp is a game of countering your opponent and trading off to do so.
I did write a bunch of stuff about "balance" in PvP and that it exists but then I deleted it and, instead, I'll write this:
Try it.
Seriously, do exactly that. Try to do it then report back with your findings.
Give it a whirl.

To counter webs you can: - kill webber before the fact of you being webbed and more or less stationary will lead to your demise - be fast enough to get out of its range (overheat prop mod) - NOT TO GET INTO HIS WEB RANGE - ECM him so he loses lock - neut him so he cannot keep web going
To counter point (scram/disruptor) you can: - kill opponent pointing you before the fact of you being unable to warp out (and in case of scram use mwd) will lead to your demise - be fast enough to get out of its range (overheat prop mod, here only AB can help) - NOT TO GET INTO HIS POINT RANGE - ECM him so he loses lock - neut him so he cannot keep web going
To counter ECM you can: - kill him before he applies successfully ECM on you - fit ECCM - ECM him first
And to all of above you can add: "bring your friends" but you posted about solo so whatevs...
Probably there are more but I suck at this game so cannot think about them atm.
Regarding of us mocking your posts:
You display the feat Eve players in general don't tolerate: feel of entitlement. You are not unique snowflake, nobody really cares what and how you do in Eve. Well you see the problem is this
1. How you you handle it?
Either don't engage (or leave once you get jammed, damped etc if you can) or Fit ECCM (only really viable if you know what to expect)
2. Pretty much nothing for the person receiving the ECM stick up their ass but the Falcon/Griffin pilots love it My signature is haunted oO |

Webs are warp scrams are normally limited to around 10km. Using a MWD you can stay outside of this range if in a fast enough ship, especially if you overheat the MWD. Sensor boosters or just getting closer counters damps, tracking computers/enhancers counter tracking disrupters, cap boosters counter neuting, going faster sorta counters target painters, ECCM counters ECM, drones and FoF missiles circumvents it.
E-war is fun because it lets pilots bring something more interesting to the table than just more dps or repping. And repping in particular would be very difficult to counter without ECM and damping. And obviously without webs and scrams it'd be almost impossible to kill anything before it escaped. |

Just a small thing if I may: you seem to be rather new to EVE PvP. One thing to keep in mind is that lots of people in low-sec fly frigates and when they see something bigger (eg. a Hurricane) they will gang up on it, even though a reasonably flown frigate should have no problem whatsoever killing a lone Arty Cane. Partly because of "hey it's a big ship, cake for everybody!" and partly because they assume your friends are waiting next door.
If you're serious about small-scale PvP, start roaming in frigates. People rarely blob frigs and you will find lots of people that agree to a 1v1. Once you have some experience with how to fly frigates (and what they usually die to) you might be able to successfully roam solo in bigger ships - for now though I think it's a rather suicidal idea. darmwand Repossession Agent http://www.repo-corp.net/ Recruitment is OPEN |

Its kinda ironic how the OP goes out in a battlecruiser, finds a smaller target he can freely shoot at, chooses his own engagement range and plans it all out so he has the best chance of winning. And when what looks like a gank target all of a sudden becomes the ganker the OP cries, as he realises he is now the target.
Well.. Nothing new here I guess..

Did you stop to think that the group that jumped you after you attacked their bait was also expecting you to be the bait for another fleet? That is where they were also taking a risk. You speak as if that fleet had any idea of what you had in plan for them. The only issue is that you had no plan.
Just because you were only on step 1 and the others were planning for steps 2-4 doesnt mean they are the ones without a sense of sportsmanship. You simply brought no sport. This is an MMO. |

EVE is an MMO. Not a single player game....and while I fly solo alot or with 1 or 2 other guys, the fact is the game rewards you for grouping with other players. Did you even check to see if any of the ruppy pilot's corp/alliance mates were in local? Or play stupid noob and let him agress and take the guns instead of giving him a free limited engagement timer in which to fight you?
As for ECM it is a force multiplier that is sometimes over-done but in several fights Ive been in a couple falcons or scorpions let a smaller fleet dominate a larger fleet who didn't have the ewar capacity to deal with them. And now days I see more ecm than damage drones so either figure out how to fit against being jammed or avoid fights where your probably going to die.
For someone who professes not to care about a loss and even wanted to get blown up you seem to have cried a aweful lot about having successfully completed your wish.... |

Your mistake was made long before any sort of ewar came into play. You made the decision to engage a target which was obviously bait, and yet you're surprised when you get hooked, reeled in and slaughtered.
EVE is a game of information which you lost in several ways including your choice of engagement and your lack of understanding of game mechanics. If you honestly expected to jump in to low sec in a BC without even a basic understanding of how PVP works in eve... you were dead before you undocked.
To put things in context for you, would you jump into PvP in SWtoR with a new character, of a class you'd never played, without having any idea how the class worked or what it's abilities are? Because that's exactly what you did here.
PVP in eve is not twitch based, if that's what you're looking for this is the wrong game. On the other hand, if strategy/tactics interest you, solo/small gang PvP in eve is about as deep as it gets. |

Firstly, the OP's grammar is horrible to the point that I can hardly follow what he was talking about.
Secondly, engaging a red ruppy on a gate without checking thoroughly for his buddies is a great way to die. Flashy reds didn't get that way, typically, by engaging hurricanes solo with their ruppy. If he was actually solo, he would've disengaged somehow unless he thought you were a moron/noob. You died the second you decided to engage him without a backup/escape plan of your own.
Please refrain from complaining about ewar before you've mastered basic tactics here :D

Never play WoW PvP, if the rogues don't stunlock you the warriors sure will. If the CCing classes don't get you first.
Surprised how so many hate ECM in EvE, when it's part of the mechanics in other MMOs. You simply learn to adapt and use it to your advantage (have 7 warriors on me, lets my team finish the objectives). "In a world of universal deceit, telling the truth is a revolutionary act." ~George Orwell

1. Several ways. The most obvious is bring your own E-War. Another is train the appropriate anti-ECM compensation skills. Drone boats tend to do well vrs ECM since once you get your drone on them they'll keep attacking even if you lose your lock. Finally, understand that in a 4 vrs 1 fight you are going to die anyway.
You can technically fit ECCM but outside of Logis no one actually does that because it's a wasted slot anytime you don't fight ECM.
2. It adds a lot of variety to the game. Without E-war the game would be simplified down to everyone just applying max damage to the primary and seeing who dies first. E-war makes things more tactical and adds advantages and disadvantage to various weapon systems. For example, Energy Neuts completely hose laser boats but projectile turrets don't require cap and just keep on firing. Turrets in general get the advantage of dealing damage instantly but missiles are immume to tracking disruptors. It makes the game deeper.
It also allows for playstyles and fleet concepts that wouldn't normally exist. For example Black Ops would not exist if not for E-war. The primary form of DPS for Black Ops is paper thin bombers kept alive only because E-war prevents them from being targeted.
Re-elect Trebor Daehdoow for a stronger CSM 8. |
