It's a problem with games in general. Most players don't post in the forums, in fact most players don't even read them. They are here to play the game for whatever reason attracts them, not to read the endless trolling that goes on in the forums. Most people will not go to, or care about fanfest. Most people will not connect their real life with a game. (That goes even more for this game, due to the incredible amount of hate that goes on ingame) Most people don't know or care about CSM, and won't vote. (Not sure why CCP can't put voting in game)
If CCP wants to engage it's playerbase more, it needs to place the information in game. Until that happens, forum opinions will reflect the rabid few....
You forgot to note that EVE doesn't even have probably 100k players, probably a lot less....

That, and the recent Caldari invasion event was an event in a single system so lag and gate queues would be the order of the day for an event whose outcome was already determined (the titan crashing) making players involvement trivial leading to many players giving the whole thing a resounding "meh".
As far as the player population of Eve goes Caldari Prime is irrelevant, now, if CCP had decided to have enemy forces attacking Jita the spam would certainly have hit the turbine.
But, back to the topic. Twitter is a decent enough media for news but the whole event would have been better advertised via ingame means, the loading screens for example.
Two of the defining characteristics of a carebear are wanting other players to play the way the carebear wants and whining on the forums for the game to change when they don't. Yet I see more threads on these forums from gankers than I do miners whining about wanting the game changed to suit them. |

I rather go right to the source,EVE Universe. In this day in age,why bother with 2nd and 3rd parties if you don't have too. It's all about specialization, specialization, specialization. So social sites are doing exactly what their designed for,a place where the socialites decide to hang out in until the next fad sites comes along. |

Quite a few people can actually look up from their devices and look into one's face and also have no need to seek one's attention. These people are forever lost for sites like Twitter and Facebook. Loss is meaningful. Therefore is the loss of meaning likewise meaningful. It is the source of all trolling. |

It's kind of strange that here in this social media I see a lot of criticism of Twitter and Facebook. On Twitter they bash FaceBook, and on FaceBook they are posting images of their breakfast and Grump Cat.
This right here is social media. But then, most people drive like crap and think everybody else drives like crap so of course the pattern of "what I do is OK but everybody doing that other thing is a tard or something".

They have already, and it's called "bread and circuses".
Rome didn't fall from the invaders at the gates, it rotted inside out. The treasury broke with imports; population fed on entertainment; apathy and entitlement abound.

Who needs Twitter? If something important is happening in game dozens of people will be creating posts on the forums to complain about it.
Example: I did not know CCP has a Twitter feed until someone on the forum complained about it. |

Herzog Wolfhammer wrote:I refer to the Eve Live Events account on Twitter. @EVE_LiveEvents
I know that a lot of people might think that live events are for RPers, but in fact, just about everybody loves a good live event. Even if you think RP is dumb, but like salvage, you can take a salvage ship to one and you won't be let down. I have lost a lot of faction modules at live events and I see others also flying elite frigates and losing them too.
It's also notable that with the suspect flag, the looting of any live event related "mothership" or whatever could also lead to PVP opportunities. In the previous live events, not just the one in Luminaire, there was a bit of that going on.
It's also worthy to point out that from one live event to the other I have run into and fleeted with players with whom I have done that only in that situation, so there's a kind of community out there that otherwise only gets involved on that level when there's something going on.
Finally, this is more than a game, it's a sci fi epic in the making, and being a part of the storyline in your favorite series is almost as epic as being in an episode of Firefly or Star Trek (were it possible). Who knows, maybe somebody will pull of some game-changer and be mentioned in a future Eve novel.
Given that, I'm surprised that this account does not have more followers. There's nothing more depressing than logging in or checking the forums to discover that there was a live event and totally missed it, even on weekends! Yes, nothing makes me want to jump off a bridge more than finding out there was a live event and I was wasting time derping it up on Facebook.
That's a qualification for slapping oneself real hard.
So if you like live events or what opportunities it offers, and you are on Twitter, consider following that account. It's the best way to know when something is going down when not logged in and in the Live Events chat, or cruising the live events forums.
I RP, but I do not tweet, ****, nor have I twoten.
