Edited by: Spathi on 05/09/2005 10:37:46 I noticed the other day there were a bunch of macro miners using mining barges, while this isnt unusual I did notice that they had only been playing for 27ish days. They were using Retrievers (med barges), which needs Mining L4, Science L4, Industry L5, Astrogeology 4, and Barge L3 to fly.
I didnt think it was possible to get into a barge in anything much less than like 40 days without a bunch of learning skill being trained up and some expensive implants. I decided to have a play with the character manager and see if it was possible to get into the barge within 28 days of starting and I just dont see how they did it. I petitioned them as usual but curiosity got the better of me as to how they got the barges so fast.

...are you sure you included the 14 day free trial? When I started a couple of months ago...the 14 days trial gave me nice free unpayed time to train up the learning skills

Have you taken into account that you can get some levels of some of these skills at characther creation? That would shave some more time off it. And have you allowed that if their only aim is mining, they can pick the ideal attributes for fastest learning of those skills?

I thought the free trial would still be reflected in the "member of corp for" time. So sure they may have had 14 days for free but they still had to train all those skills within 27 days (including the 14 free days).

with good starting attributes, they could have probably done it. Who were the characters, and how can you be certain they were macro'ing? ------------------------------------------ Dreadnought Production INC is recruiting Join DPI Channel Or Visit (IGB) http://www.mmorpg-online.net/intro.html |

Anybody can get lvl IV mining at creation. I think one of my characters did, and he's Amarr.

I set myself with Mining lvl4 right out of the box and I believe, Industry lvl3. I'm pretty sure I was in a procurer within 27 days. I think it took a little over 27 days to get in the Retriever though. The thing that annoys me is that it seems that almost everyone that see's a mining barge in Empire automatically thinks it's a macrominer. Not all of us in Mining Barges are macrominers.

youre right (ie last poster marco'ers) are easy enough to spot if u watch em long enough they repeat the exact same behaviour over and over - if a normal players roid was to be popped they would move on move around etc - MMs dont they sit there looking stupid warping back and forward unsure what to do as its all automated - quickest way is to try and chat to the plyaer u think is suspect - if they talk back within 5 minutes then u assume they are a normal player.
One in suner possibly is "lance boil" go visit him in the 6.3 belt. He will be sitting there looking stupid once u pop his belt with a mining barge. His mining barge warps back and forward to the station with an empty hold after his 2 favourite trit roids are popped.

I mine furiously in my barge but I'm not a macro miner, although you may see me zipping around trying to find something decent to mine "should my signature go here?" |

I started a char 26 days ago and he is now in a medium barge. In 3 days he will have mining lv5 and already has his learning, memory and intelligence skills to lv4. No implants.
Yes, it is possible.

afa chatting in local. I don't (personal policy). If that makes people think I macromine, then I guess that is just what they will have to think...

Guess I look like a barge marco too. I mine, but dont chat in local, I chat on the help channels.
Mining is such a repeatative task that it would be diffcult to notice macro'ers from players going some 'pass the time' mining. --------------------------------- Monkey Nut CEO - Nova Syndicate Dedicated to helping new players |

Their hauler is obviously a macro because no player would warp to the can and back with an empty hold or full of bookmarks. I have heard they are already being investigated for macroing.
Oh and even the most dedicated players dont spend 3 days non stop round the clock mining.

Hehe - i hate macro'ers as much as the next guy ... but mining nonstop in my barge for 24-30 hrs nonstop is not out of the question .. i just need 8-10 hours sleep before the wife gets home ;)

I've noticed this unfortunate tendancy too. A lot of the "anti-macroer" suggestions are actually more "anti-barge" than anything else. Ironically, if more people used mining barges in empire, the macrominers would actually be less successful, as there would be more mineral supply, and lower mineral prices - hence the macrominers would make less isk.
