You know... when a substantial empire in the south invades another empire in the north, withdraw, and undergoes civil war, you'd think it'd be front-page news.
Why don't the content people pay attention to stuff like this? Their own little set pieces and news articles about them are all fine and good, but in the grand scale of this game, they amount to precious little.
Could the content people look up from their own schemes and get involved with reporting the real news in the EVE universe? They could be surprised and able to work real events into their own planned ones...

How did spies get into it?
All it really needs is someone who watches the corp forum for big developments, and if something major happens (or even something minor, but interesting) they can ask for comments from the leaders and CEOs of involved parties. Just ask them questions. Perhaps with a screenshot of the involved region, system or players. Add made up comments from npc corps and characters as necessary. Heck even I could do it. Doesn't leave much room for abuse by way of spying.

Dunno.... every time somebody says in the forums "we shot an Ibis" you have a hundred shouting "no" and "yes but it didnt hurt" and "you forgot the kills last week" and "wcs in lows are lame", flammage ensues and then the forum gets locked.
Putting that ibis in the news would burn the forums to the root...
Besides AFAIK the news are for roleplay and In Character news (sometimes you see the guys from PIE for example, about something they did that was not an event from Aurora) -

I know of at least two major alliance wars that started over an industrial kill.
But I mean, nobody will contest that some things such as say, the Stain civil war, Bob invading imperium and declaring fountain dead (then again, if i had a cookie everytime Fountain, Xetic, and Imperium were said to be dead I'd uh... need a bigger cookie jar), alliances implementing NBSI policies (and perhaps resetting standings) and other things are all very relevant to the game.

I suppose the philosophy is: deep space 0.0 alliances are big boys games, and they have their own press releases on the forums. You can get informed of much of the "official" (and often contraditing...) news of both sides there. They generate their own content.
(sometimes I've seen 0.0 alliance on the News, like the outpost of this ASCN guys. I guess it was something not having much to do with a conflict, as in, it won't turn into a flamefest)
Yet the "official" news encourage the "little guy" in Empire and RP, and bring Prime Fiction alive. For example, the assassination of the Amarrian Empire... didn't have a iota of impact on 0.0 alliances, but to those interested in the backstory and the Empires it gives a lot of depth. (guess it is: 0.0 alliances can kill each other, but RPers need the News to kill the amarrian emperor; players cannot affect Prime Fiction by themselves) -

Go for it! Start here at the forums and bring quality to the masses. Keep it going and draw CCP's attention on that topic. Maybe you will end in the ingame news.

we're banned from talking about ANYTHING which goes on which has to do with an alliance. Anyone writing a piece of news would probably end up being kicked from their alliance (or in my case allaince )
