Im looking into creating a new computer and with eves optimizations Its not to hard reaching optimum frames per second. IT kills me that zone loading is 1-3 seconds, its terrible in fleet battles. In choosing a storage drive, can someone test about how much data eve loads when it changes zones from a jump drive and/or station to outside?

Edited by: Shirer Aprenon on 09/09/2005 08:29:06 no idea, although I can tell you that I have two eve folders on separate HD's. One is a Barrcauda 200.7 (no slouch by any standards) and a second install on a WD Raptor 74. On undocking from the station at exactly the same time, the 74 GB Raptor account launches into space about 2 secs quicker everytime. So what? well, get the fastest performing drive you can afford.
Tested using clean installs of course, in case there's any caching issues created by an older install.
Your framerate tbh is processor tied, get the best performing processor you can afford, then overclock it for more fps.

2x Seagate 7200.7s in RAID 0 and 1.5 Gb of ram. Large systems like rens still take 3-5s to load. Alot of it is server side lag.

The HD isn't neccesarily the bottleneck. Even if your normal frame frate is maxed out, you might get quicker jumps/undocks with a faster CPU/faster RAM because a ton of data-structures have to ditched and reinitialized on jump/undock, and a lot of that is happening in python code.
For instance when jumping to a system you've just come from the diskdrive activity should be minimal because Windows will cache the accesses to the static data (.stuff files) quite well. But the jump still takes time. __________________

RAM is cheap. If you have 2+Gb of RAM, consider making 1Gb a RAM drive and copy eve into it before launch. Watch the load time then :) | Join eve-webring.com to promote your site. |
