i am by no means a programmer but what about
OCR
reading chatlogs (logs are saved when exactly ?)
or something like that ?
has anyone ever tried ?
i am not proposing to be able to take part in chats without having a client running.
but not being able to chat with corpmates and alliance members or other folk when you are not physically able to sit in front of
a PC but can use a smartphone might be worth taking a look at

because it-¦s still two separated systems then.
technically of course you would need both but still it would be cool if i saw in jabber what some other guy posted in eve and vice versa |

In-game chat to IRC can be done by reading the chat logs and forwarding them to IRC.
IRC to in-game chat on the other hand is possible, but not allowed (as it's against ToS to manipulate or automate chat linking stuff of the client). |

There has been discussions about this MAYBE becoming possible once CREST is out.
Since CREST already has chat support (DUST uses it afaik)
So, maybe.. but i doubt it, it's CCP. |

I see....
opening up the API / Crest for two communication with the game would open up the game for a lot of 3rd party tools and stuff.
and a whole new way of generating revenue for ccp.
I bet my precious behind that a lot of people would pay those extra 2 bucks / month to be able to chat / update orders /start industry jobs / with an android / Iphone app....
of course with more ways to execute ingame orders and such opens up whole n ew possibilities for cheating and such as well...
*sigh*
