Got a newb question...
Am I at a disadvangtage if I use ships and weapons of a different race? If I create a Caldari character, but only train Amarr ships and Energy Weapons, would i be any worse off than just going Amarr? If i did this, could i use another races npcs?

i'm a gallente char but i don't fly any gallente ships 
You can fly what you want, you only have to train for it.
Although with the bloodline thing comming up, no idea what that is going to give to youre char. But ye as long as you train for it you can fly what you want and use what you want

I can fly all ship and use all weapons, sure it can be seen as a skill sink but it really comes in useful.
If anything gets nerfed (which it will do at some point) you have something to fall back on, you have no problems finding a new ship and equipment if you should get blown up and every race has a very different feel to it which means flying other races ships are prety enjoyable.
As far as I can tell there is no difference if you use another races ships, then again tings get nerfed here and there and it all kinda ballances out.

tbh, if u make a caldari character, it is stupid to use caldari ships 
cept the harpy and kestrel....

The ferox aint a bad ship either :) Doing quite well in it tbh :D and it goes quite fast when you start training the navigation skills, like a frigate only with lots of relatively big guns :D

And the Crow absolutely rocks!
tbh, I'm Caldari and the only Caldari ships I ever fly are the Crow or Harpy. That's me with Caldari BS 5 
It doesn't matter what race you are when it comes to training for any race's ships. You'll train them at the same speed as anyone of that race and can use them just as well.

I recently trained up my gallente cruiser skills so i could use a thorax and a bruttix, and eventually i will get to the BS's. But i found the opposite of what some of you have been saying, i have both gallente and caldari frigate at lvl4.....but when choosing to train lvl5 i find that gallente is slightly longer as i am not originally gallente.
I believe that yes ATT's make a difference to a point but if you are essentially training alien technology then it will take longer. I dont think it applies to Weapons or other Tech....

I don't think anyone said there was. All we are debating is the point of flying other races ships, if you are caldari and you fly caldari, then GREAT. What we wanna know is if multi-skilling is worth it.

I'm Caldari and I fly mostly Caldari ships, but it's nice that the gallente use the same guns so my Small hybrid 5 helps out on the enyo or taranis. it's nive not having to waste time training another race's guns.
