Hi, does anyone know what tpe of damage is required to take down a sentry gun at a gate?

You cant take down sentrys, but i think you can blow up billboards, not 100% sure though.
Wanted for crimes against a rich guy. |

Destroying sentry gun was nerfed - not possible anmyore. But you can take out a billboard - which spawns new within 10 seconds.
Try a TDG spawn or the TDG complexes in Pure Blind, Syndicate or empire. |

You used to be able to destroy sentries I think. Either way, they used to be venerable to ECM, so you could in effect disable them to camp a gate.
I think, if I remember correctly this was removed when castor was deployed. I'm not positive though.
As it currently stands, sentries have been modified so that they are impervious to ECM, and cannot be destroyed.
I beleive there is also a system in place that monitors ship loss activity in any given solar system and links it with criminal flagging in said system solar system, which enables tranquility to adjust the tech level (and there for toughness) of the sentries guarding LCO's in a solar system.
When [SNIGG] was camping Aunenen heavily, we noticed several times that the sentry guns guarding the Nonni gate changed from " ----- Sentry gun" to " ----- Sentry gun II" or "III". Whether this is done manually to calm an area, or automatically by TQ, it should be noted that they do change, and subsequently become harder to tank against.

Yeah they use to be vuln to ECM but that was changed along time ago. I tried to take one out but it wasn't happening. Even if you could, they would still have the fast respawn time making it pointless and actually gimping towards your armor till healed.

There's a definate increase in damage, some of our guys had to boost their tanks for our last couple of camps in Aunenen before we moved out.

Personally I see no problem in the idea of being able to honestly fight and destroy a stentry gun or NPC station. However, it should be something that would take an utterly massive fleet to do. The simple fact is that once such a threat appeared, CONCORD would dispatch a large fleet to keep the peace, the NPC corp that owns the base would send any pilots, npc or pc, to defend it, and the race it belongs to would most likely send ships to protect it.
Then you factor in that in empire space, the gates would most likely get put on lockdown, meaning you can't get the jucie to get out, but others would beable to use gates to get there, PCs would get a lockdown warning before trying to jump, and simply put, even if you were successfull, that system would be on lockdown with hundreds of NPC ships and whatnot, hunting the attackers down.
A big reason such things wont ever happen, though, is probably something alolng the lines of what would happen to everything in that base. You'd have players logging in with a message saying they were blasted into dust while offline, losing all they had in the station? That could kill the playerbase.
Far too many issues would arise in destroying NPC stations. Imagine being a newbie, making a character, trying to startin kisago or jita, only to be told there are no bases there. It'd just get out of hand. Perhaps an event or two dealing with taking down a set NPC base would be cool though.
Let's not forget that NPC stations would probably have utterly insane shield tanks.

Ohh how i have tried and verone is correct they do change from 1 to 3 etc just kill a billboard instead but they can tank i tell u .......

I think your right, i've tanked sentry gun 3's the same as 1 or 2's, you can sit near them all day in an apoc and they will never break your tank.

There's a common misconception about sentry guns and their activation range.
You can be sat 500m from a sentry, but as long as you're >150km from the gate (make it 160 to be safe) then the sentry guns will not start to fire on you if you snipe someone at the gate.
