god I can't even imagine who would be dumb enough to put 45k megacyte into a freakin' INDY when they could transport that in a battleship...
Just.. unbelievable stupidity... lol

Vidar, however your comment maybe true some people can not affort a battleship, but a few people in cruisers could mine enought for 45k mega, and then ship it in an indy, not that hard to figure out, really.

You could just transport it in a couple runs in a standard cruiser, or even fit some cargo expanders on a cruiser and you could do it in one run on a ship with the ability to activate 4 microwarpdrives and escape anything. Transporting 150 mil in megacyte in an industrial really is probably the single dumbest thing anybody has ever done in Eve.
And that is one LUCKY pirate.

150 mil? 45000*4096 = 184 mil 45000*6000 = 270 mil
Lucky bastard. I can't imagine the feeling to lose more than 200 mil in a single damn ship, though. |

Cargo extenders and a cruiser works, but really, if I had that much mega I'd probably send it split between at least 3 or 4 ships each equipped with an MWD... that pretty much makes it 0 chance of them being intercepted, and even if one is, you don't lose the whole lot.
Obviously whoever shipped this was ignoring all possible risks.

184m isk worth of cargo? And no escorts? Come on, Shollos. More details please. The way things currently sound, it's embarassing to even think about being in that person's shoes.
When carting just the tiny bits of meg/zyd from recycling, I do that in my cruiser while taking the rest in an industrial.

... somewhat figures people would rather use the cargo exp.. err, secure containers to make adverts near jumpgates, than for what they're intended.
On the other hand maybe it was just someone who likes risk and has lots of cash already? :s

I think the indi pilot is still crying, as I write this.
I heard the indi was afk and in a 1.0 system. When he got back from AFK mining I think he sank into a world of sh*t. To top it off the pirate only took 1/2 of the mega, there was a lot more of it but it got lost.

that is why when I have to do a BIG shipment, I do it twice, I take half once, half the next time. Just in case...(and that just in case has happened before)

Silly man, silly. Should have put the mega in a sec container. Then even tho you got poped they couldn't do jack with it. Can't move it, can't kill it in a reasonable amount of time.
They really need to change that so that pirates can pick up the containers but not open them. Ransom would be a nice way to actually make some money for pirates. --------------------------------------- CSM Chat Log September 25, 2003: Fuhry> Some things we simply cannot test, and therefore we just put it on Tranq. cross our fingers and then get into panic m |

It's very much reality, oh and thanks for the Thorax last night, Pyro. Everyone should use the eject feature more often!
I have to admit I felt bad stealing a Thorax that was using a civillian shield booster and gyrostablizers, while using ALL hybrid weapons.
Too funny. ------

Damn shame really, ain't no indy going to mine alone an get 45k mega worth, an dumb that he was afk in the first place.

I really don't enjoy laughing at other people's stupidity (as a rule), but these examples really take the cake.
Perhaps this thread should be renamed to 'Darwin Awards' or at least 'Honorable Mentions'?
I have to admit that I'm currently deciding which is more amusing: An unescorted indy carry 45k mega, or a dumped Thorax loaded with hybrids and a Gyrostabilizer. It's just too much
Please note that the views expressed above are those of Gai Daigoji and not necessarily those of the JGR corporation. |
