CONTRACTS!!!
Every person has their own custom sig, (a scribble, not a pic) that they make, they copy + paste onto everything they need to "sign".
This would open up a massive new dimension to eve, including loan sharking, contracts for business, writing checks (instead of insta-payment) loan agreements (different from loan sharking ), and cud open new professions such as law and stuff, Ship finance deals, get a ship on credit with more than trust involved.
Then, if u sign something, and don't deliver/pay or whatever, u get ganked for breach of contract. So this cud either be concorde, or player managed, ie, free reign over the breacher (pod-kill, garnish his earnings etc whatever u see fit...or whatever was decided in the contract).
Thoughts/comments/additions welcome :)

if you can copy/paste, whats to stop other person copy/pasting?
nice idea, but no security. make it a game mechaniced form between two people, rather than a little squiggle :)

ok then, something a bit more sophisticated. instead of ur avatar "writing" his sig. he has a chip in his thumb that he "wipes" over the dotted line

of course, this could be attained by podding the guy, then removing the chip from his thumb, and go on a shopping spree with his "wallet" as it were buying 3 dreads on finance, and all sorts

- think it is really an interesting idea, but it is very complex one too...need to develop an entire structure, resources and modify existing "way to do things" already working.
Sorry, but my opinion is that there is much more simple things to work that could make EVE better.

I still think it needs to be done. It would solidify any shakey agreements people have already with each other. But more importantly, it would open up a world of new jobs that simply weren't feasible without contracts.
Loans, ship financing (by now-pay later), promises, just sooooo much! lol.

About the signature it could be just an accept button. For this to work, one side can write down a contract and have some predetermined penalties to choose in case some or total of contract is broken, the contract is then handed eletronically very much like it is done with the aplications in the corporate process, the other side read it, make changes if he does not agree and send it back, this goes from one to other until all parties are in complete accordance to each other. In the end both parties just clik accept very much like the trade window (on station from person to person) and the contract is valid...if things does not go as combined, then penalties are employed.
I like the idea

exactly, but I just think it's necessary in a game which is all about economics and thousands of players. At the moment, anything that needs a contract is all on a promisary basis, and requires a lot of trust, which can easily be betrayed. The contract could have drop down menus for action to be taken in result of breach of contract, then this wouldn't need GM's, seeing how there would be a helluva lot of contracts going around. Hmmm, we would need some kind of player run legal system. This would open a lot of job opportunitys in law, perhaps with player run courts. And law firms (Lionel Hutz anyone?) to act as prosecution + defence in a particularly "high" business deal.

why the signature? Remember that this is a game with a database and the database can keep track of all that just like it "knows" which items and ships are ours.
Signatures are used in the real world because there is no way of doing this otherwise. And yes signatures in the real world also have its flaws (who here never copied their parents signature when they had to sign something?)

read the entire thread...
no longer sigs, now just an accept button for both parties to accept the contract that has been made up
We would need a legal system, player run, because the infinite diversity that contracts can take on would be way too much for any NPC system to work.
