all i can say is this.... if this is an indication to the service provided by CCP to play the game on a server & pay for it!!!
then i think i will only play for what's left of the free trial & find something that doesn't crash like a zx81.
in saying that i feel for ALL of the peeps who have paid to have a server go down n them with no satisfaction

Edited by: swoj on 11/09/2005 14:31:00 The explaination is given in the game client when you try to connect "Cluster startup problems. Still working on getting it up, sorry for the inconvenience"
Instead of looking at it as a morning screwed up, trying going and doing something productive and try again later, it's not the end of the world.
Eve runs fine 99% of the time, One bit of downtime and people act like CCP have been conspiring to ruin their life. Get a grip.

First of all, calm down. Second, every game have problems. Computers can't be perfect 24/7. Computers crash, servers crash. Something wrong with just one little code and everything is error.
If you can't take downtime, then do NOT play online games. They crash alot. And trust me I know.

Indeed. Im currently nearing the end of my 30 day trial, and have payed for 3 months after that.
As it stands at the moment, the maximum anyone can get today of gameplay is 22 1/2 hours(counting to the start of the next scheduled downtime)
Considering im paying for 24 hours a day, its rediculous!
AND its wasted skill training time.....i think

Extended downtime
Sorry but my important storyline mission just ended in this extended downtime I will not get my bonus and I will not go to start.
Just my two cents; I just keep on wondering if I do something wrong as the server comes up as active.
Patience appearantly is a healty habit or a second online game.

seen posts by people who were able to briefly log in after the regular downtime about missing items and stuff...I think we may be very thankful that they are taking extra time to fix whatever it is. Watch some tv or do the dishes or something.
I've been in about 6 MMOGs so far and in every one of them, sometimes problems come up, and every time, people scream OMGWTF!!1! Company XXX is messing me over, I'm quitting/sueing/changing my underwear.
Life, it goes on.

Its funny how the new players complain first.... But anyway, two points really. 1: the game was recently patched. In my experience of Eve, after a patch there is a short time to iron out bugs and generally the server needs to be fixed once or twice during the inception period. Its no big deal. 2:Ive noticed that CCP are usually happy to give players with active accounts (not trial accounts) an extra day here and there when the servers are disrupted. 3: I fully support CCP and im not a Dev Alt. ----==Retinal Scan Initiated..PLEASE WAIT==----

unfortunately i was not so lucky i had may training time scheduled to train a new skill set right after downtime and thought i could get away with it praying there would not be an extended downtime but oh well to a chance and got ####ed on it ill just have to make sure not to take that chance agin as a 200 lapse in train time is a complete waste of good training time

I managed to put a 44 min skill on in the short up time after DT. Oh well 3 hours lost and counting.
I like that Mr H S has found out how to change the font colour. If he would like now to return it to white everyone could read what it says.

Bleh can you the whiners quit it, CCP is doing a great job, if you think this is bad go play eq, and see what truly crappy service is. From all the MMO's I've played so far, Eve probably has the best support staff I have ever seen. **** Happens computers break down life goes on. Take advantge of the break and get oudoors for a breath of fresh air

Hey servers go down and it's a fact of life. But what I'd like to have is an ETA or an order of magnitude. i.e. less than 1hr, couple of hrs, half day... So I know if it's worth my getting re-acquainted with Real Life on this beautiful day.... |

from what i have seen the staff is pretty good at letting you know how long it will take as sson as they have a definitive answer about the problem but atleast we can say it will be up and running again hopefully fairly soon

Some of yall make a mountain out of a ant mound. geez. at least when ccp screws up or has problems them compensate for it. try playing star wars galaxies, when that goes down its for like 3 days + at a time, and they are like... "oh well not our problem" this is pretty much the only game i play. and i think its well worth it. game content and graphics alone (when they work) are great, better then 90% other games.. so don't see what the big deal is of having a few hours downtime. but thats just me... what do i know... |

EQ doesn't have a real-time advancement system that depends on you being able to schedule your time according to pre-arranged down times.
As I've stated before, if there was an alternative method for people to change skills over in unscheduled down time this wouldn't imo be as much of an issue.

I started 2 to 3 hours training just after the first unscheduled reboot... now on my character page it says only the first 17 seconds have been trained and nothing is training at this moment... what gives? Will CCP give me my one level of that skill plus the extra time my avatar would have skilled after that?

EQ also doesn't have an ability to train a skill while doing something else entirely. It also does not allow you to train your skills while offline. Bad comparison. You aren't going to die because you miss out on a couple hours of training.

What is really got me annoyed, was before the scheduled downtime, i set a long term skill to train (just in case there was any problems) as soon as the serve came back up i thought, great i will now set that skill i could beusing this afternoon (2 hrs) and then the server goes down and i have lost ages in skill training time.
thems is the breaks, still a pain in the 1mn afterburner though

sunday tranquility startup troubles reported by Oveur | 2005.09.11 15:38:53 | NEW Tranquility had problems starting up today and we immediately started diagnosing everything, trying to pinpoint the problem. We still haven't found exactly what was causing the problems, but we have localized it to 10 machines. The workaround to get Tranquility up is to start without the 10 servers which seem to be the problem, since it's most likely network related. This means we will be running at 80% capacity today Sunday and you will probably experience decreased performance today due to this. We're very sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused.
Decreased perfomance you are kidding I still cant even log in.....
