I dont want to sit here and wait and try every hour (for the past 3 hours) to see if I can connect.
I can easily do something else. Please give us an estimated time for us to check in again.
If not for the skill trainning system, I wont even have to check in, as it is I have to check in to change my skill trainning and in order to check, I have to wait.
To have patience is a virtue but this world unconditional waiting dont exist anymore.

Absolutely. I think it is most unprofessional of CCP to not even have an ETA for the problem being resolved, or what the actual problem is. As for the people that say "Its only $ get over it" I want to see you sing the same tune when your ISP goes down and your givin no explanation. For the people that say quit whining - 10,000 people are wanting to get what they paid for, and have EVERY right to voice their unapproval for a service they are not getting.

sunday tranquility startup troubles reported by Oveur | 2005.09.11 15:38:53 | NEW Tranquility had problems starting up today and we immediately started diagnosing everything, trying to pinpoint the problem. We still haven't found exactly what was causing the problems, but we have localized it to 10 machines. The workaround to get Tranquility up is to start without the 10 servers which seem to be the problem, since it's most likely network related. This means we will be running at 80% capacity today Sunday and you will probably experience decreased performance today due to this. We're very sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused.
I still cant get on so definate loss in prefomance......

hmmm... I'm getting full cluster (2000) now Does that mean that a lucky 2000 people are in, and the rest of us are stuffed?

If something go wrong, no one can tell you how much time will take to fix this. So stop demanding imposibble things.

Seems that way... for now at least. Hopefully they will turn on some more clusters, if they are at only 80% capacity at the moment, and they have handled 30,000 people before, surely they can handle the average 10,000+

If something goes wrong, its normally very possible to give a "guesstimate" on the length of time required to fix it. It may not be particularly accurate but it will give us a "ball park" figure to aim for.

Why was it -down- to start? Okay, you had troubles bringing it back, but why is it even necessary?
Backups? Transactional/journalling backup systems can restore anything to the state it was at any given point in time. No reason it should have to come down for backups. If that's the case, it needs a redesign. (This was UO's excuse when I was playing that. Strangely, EverQuest is many times the size and doesn't have this problem.)
Memory leak? Performance loss? Debug the code and find the problem.
There's no reason a system should have to be taken down daily. I'm sorry, but I do admin work for multiple companies, and the -only- time they're down is if I have to actually replace the kernel in the OS. Anything other than five 9's uptime in this day and age indicates a design flaw, barring the odd mistake with a bad patch. I'm talking your normal, everyday wear and tear on a system. If my clients' web servers went down for an hour a day, that'd be thousands of dollars lost to them.
I'd love to know what the mysterious "daily maintenance" involves, exactly. None of the plausible reasons are reasonable, given proper design consideration.
About the only thing I can say is that, unlike UO, we don't lose the gameplay from 1-3 hours before downtime as well. THAT was a truly lousy design they had at Origin. At least we don't have that to contend with in EVE.
I'd still like to know, "Why is there a daily downtime?"
