So what should we do with the whole npc crew/ ships/ market tradable slaves?
I would say consumables should be used to maintain them.
For example if a ship is out of a station offline they die of lack of food, or air, or water. Would stop cowards safespot logging.
Any more thoughts?

umm I'm not sure I exactly understand what you're saying but I like the idea of needing consumables, but it might be a pain
I have little ability to see long term effects, let one of the ones who can say what will happen _____________________________________________ Assassin for hire. Low level, low prices. |

what?!
So are you talking about spawn points here or just trying to prevent a valid "death avoidance" tactic?
Personally SS's are necessary in this game, unless CCP are going to prevent targetting within 250km of a station, or provide a "station locality" in your overview, or even an observation camera.

Well why can't a ships take up a small supply of water food and oxygen in stations which automatically buys cheapest in station or something.
or at least a little crew escape pod should appear and warp away, towards a station.

No going offline to avoid death is not fair. Leaving eve universe to save yourself is not fair!

The game is already complexed enough. What about those that dont PVP and want to log at a safespot when theres no stations around?

You drink your own urine (its filtered), and you have CO2 scrubbers so efficient they can recycle the air for 100 years before needing to be changed.
Life just rocks in a pod :)

and the crew? Im just saying the fact the ships crew is made up of people who all die is a little far fetched.

Not really as you dont technically need one, the beauty of the future is that most ships just require complex electronics, and computer systems to run them. You are in effect the sole occupant of your ship.

Edited by: Spy4Hire on 13/09/2005 05:07:07 IMO people should not be able to safely log unless they're either
A) Docked at a station or starbase B) Parked inside the shield of a POS (any POS) C) In a system where their corp/alliance holds sovereignty.
If any of the above conditions are met the ship simply warps off a safe distance as they do now and *poof* disappears. When the pilot logs back on their ship begins to warp back to where they started, but this action can be canceled.
If any of the above conditions are NOT met then the ship warps off as far as its capacitor allows (which can be a very long way for a pod) and then just sits there. It does not disappear from the map, but feasably it can warp beyond the range of easy or swift probing. If the ship is found it cannot be boarded (as the pilot is still 'aboard'), but it can be attacked. Once the ship is destroyed the pod warps away to the limits of its capacitor. When the person logs back on the ship warps back to where it started from within 300km, this action cannot be canceled. Bookmarks cannot be placed until the ship comes out of warp.

Fraid not meathead (i refuse to type in l33t..bugger i just did).
Frigates are small enough to be run just by a Pod (all but the punisher which is so large it requires 1 extra person)
Larger ships, however, require anything from around a dozen support crew for an industrial/cruiser to a few thousand for a Battleship.
All a Pod really does is remove the bridge crew, cutting down on the time delay between the captain giving an order and it being relayed down to the required people on the ship. From the crews perspective the Pod pilot acts much like a second ships AI (which works in conjuntion with the pod pilot anyway)
This is supported by both the background storys about eve and the developers of the game, who want to try and include crew quality in the Kali patch (so in effect ships that get better over time as their crew improve).
I can easly understand a Frigate being able to go without food/water for prolonged periods, but a small docking fee for larger ships based on their size would make sence, not just to represent food/water intake but also (prehapse) paying your crew wages .
It wouldnt have to be much from our perspective, as Pod pilots deal with monitary amounts few crew could ever dream of owning. A few thousand isk for a cruiser, up to a few hundred thousand for a battleship would seem fair and would add to the immersion of the game.

Its metathead :) (intended to be metalhead, but typo when I was 13 put the kybosh on that :))
I stand corrected on the crew issue, but surely the same systems would exist for them also? Recycled waste, and scrubbed air. Food.. hmm perhaps supplied as part of the ship. Replicators perhaps such as in ST? I agree crew quality is a good thing, however removing the only safe means of logging in a low sec area would ruin the game. Either fix the station ganking ability, or allow us to keep our safespots.

hes right about the station. arnt stations supposed to GUARD THEMSELVES? if someone shoots someone else.. why doenst the station (cept PC owned stations..) consider that hostile and blow they the **** away? ok you can tank teh damage and then get away... easily solved.. put the dmg multiplier to 1000x and give em XL guns :) problem solved.
Stations are supposed to be friendly little places. even in lowsec where 'cord cant help you.. if someone wants to take someone out at the station they gotta be prepared to DIE FOR IT!. otherwise just camp the gates :)
Or own the station and set the guns to shoot anything and everyone not part of your alliance/corp
If the player is NEGATIVE to the station fiar enough the station couldnt care less. but if FRIENDLY. anyone shooting him would be shot at (and in turn) obliterated.
