Just once, it was a scam called "Marriage", she lured me in with promises of intercourse, and we all know how THAT goes after you say "i do" (I thought I would mention I was married...to a woman..simply because I'm a man and wanted to prove that I am getting some on the Regular...oh wait, wrong thread).
But for real, yea, I once bought a mod that was supposed to be 1 million isk for about 100 mil because i was in a hurry. All i could do was mail the seller a 2 letter message:

Lost about 1 bil isk to a margin trading scam, before I knew what a margin trading scam was.
I was more annoyed since I thought I'd been in the game long enough to know better at the time, but meh 1 billion isn't the end of the world, I was just confused as to what had happened. Now I know and I won't fall for it again.
I did petition it to see what had happened as I couldn't understand it, wasn't wanting isk back, just to try and understand what had happened, and also to see if they had a sense of humour to rename Jita to Scamsville but they didn't  |

Yep. First week in EVE accepted a courier contract to EC-P8R, 20m collateral.
Had just bought my first set of +2s, to boot.

One of those scams where the sell items on contract that they've created high buy orders with min/max quantities attached.
Spent 800mil expecting to make an additional 600mil at the station. Was sad when I could not.
Fortunately the guy who did it made a mistake, his minimum buy order was for 10 and he was selling contracts each night with 5 each. So I grabbed the next nights contract and completed the buy order :) |

So I tried to grab two items off the market for what I though was 280k, and only one showed up. Turned out I didn't have 560 Mil in my wallet at the time, but sadly still enough for one of them. And it happens to only actually we worth ~150-200 mil with somewhat slim chances to move.
It's still sitting in my hangar somewhere. Never took the time to try to move it, beyond posting it back up for three months at the price I fell for. |

Way back in 2008 there was a man who said he was leaving for null sec. And oh, what's this? He's selling off some of his ships that he can't move at a bargain price! Hurray!
Long story short he traded a raven to me named "Raven Navy Issue" and I didn't understand trade mechanics well enough to understand that you could do that. I bought a raven for well over the standard price for a Raven. Dat ******. It made me write an angry peition to CCP demanding they enforce scamming laws. lol. Ever since then I've been a bit easier when it comes to scammers and scamming. It's just a game. |

I got scammed in a trade window... guy was selling me a navy raven and I went to go scam him because the idiot was doing a trading window.
Payed 1.5m isk for a navy raven and ended up with a crappy regular raven

Closest I got was a guy that asked for help completing a mission in the high sec system next to where we were. We fleeted up and he fleet warped to gate and told me to jump on contact.
Problem was, it was the neighboring low sec system he warped me to the gate to, not the neighboring high sec system he had said the mission was in.
When I dropped fleet and warped off, without jumping to low sec in my PVE BS, he convo'ed me and was all like.. I thought you were going to help. And I was all like, you said it was high sec. Then he said It is high sec... then I said, no it's not and posted a link to the system show info. Then he's all like, oh it's in the high sec system 2 jumps past that low sec system.
So I copied the original message where he claimed it was in a different system, Then I blocked him and closed chat and never heard from him again.
It cost me about 1 minute of play time. |

I got 'recruitment scammed' by someone who basically lured me into a trap and killed me. We still talk because I was cool with it (my response was well you can at least pod express me home so I don't need to slow boat it). Otherwise I've never lost any liquid isk or assets in a scam. Most of them are pretty easy to spot especially if you follow the 'if it sounds too good to be true then it must be' rule. |

back to topic, I nvr get scammed since I learned to check things up. instead I ripped off someone who put a sell order of a special edition frig for 2M, which later re-sale at 5M...... typo? I dunno but who cares

When I was a nubbin I fell for the "double your ISK" scam. He got 50 mil out of me. I moved on but never forgot his name. And never fell for another scam after that.
Two years later I was talking with some guys and a "familiar name" was mentioned as being someone's alt... and how said alt scammed a lot of people. After some prodding I got the person's main character name... tracked him down... and smartbombed his frigate and pod as he was warping to a gate. 
To say he was surprised was an understatement. He gave me kudos and we went back to our lives.
Change isn't bad, but it isn't always good. Sometimes, the oldest and most simple of things can be the most elegant and effective. |
