Actually, I thought it was pretty good for a C-movie. The script was pretty funny. It was a lot better than ST2 at least FIRE FRIENDSHIP TORPEDOES ! |

All three were crap. The only thing Starship Troopers that is good (besides the book, obvioulsy) is the short 3D tv series.
FFS Starship Troopers INVENTED the WH40K spacemarine suit and the Starcraft marine suit, and those were nowehere to be seen in the two movies, and only made an appearence at the very end of ST3. The idea that Heinlein wrote this book in 1959 describing powered armor exoskeletons, tactical nukes and orbital insertions really boggles the mind. FIRE FRIENDSHIP TORPEDOES ! |

ST3 was not that bad. It had a lot of the kind of brutal kind of jokes that the ST1 had. The script could have been improved in some ways and because of the lack of budget there were not many battle scenes, but otherwise it was okay.
A lot of people hate ST1 and while the movie is indeed about blood and boobies, but it also has a lot of irony directed against militarism and propaganda. |

The original novel did which has little connection except for the name and some references in the film, even the way they travel inspace they messed up in the film I do not agree with what you are saying , but i will defend to the death your right to say it...... Voltaire |

That series was aired on Nickelodeon or something like that in the UK, it was pretty damn good for something intended for kids. It had some good CGI for a show like that to.

RAH needs to come back from the dead to haunt that Verhoeven mofo into the grave. I loved Robocop, but did they have to reuse the ALL THE SAME GAGS from it for Starship Troopers?

The best worst book to movie adaptation ever? Myxx does have a point though, the first is the best of the three. But that's only comparing to the others, in no way is it a decent film at all. |

Which one? The original, the director's cut or the Sci-Fi channel miniseries? All of them had redeeming qualities, the original is inferior to the directors cut, and the Sci-Fi miniseries actually managed to capture a lot that was left out of the DeLaurentis attempt, but most of the acting in that version was horrid. I can't fault DeLaurentis for what happened, Dune simply cannot be summed up in a normal length movie.
Oh, and Dune didn't try try to change the whole purpose of the Herbert's book. Someone commented that Starship Troopers was anti militaristic and made fun of propaganda. RAH's entire PURPOSE behind Starship Troopers was the VALUE of citizenship and patriotism. While Jonny Rico starts out by following his gonads, he discovers true esprit d'corps in the Mobile Infantry. While he may not be ready for citizenship when the book ends, he knows his role in puttign himself in harms way for the benefit of the ones he loves as well as those faceless masses that the soldier protects. It had very little to do with propaganda at all. |

Can anyone tell me something I might have missed, after watching ST1 I was inclined to read book, and to be honest had to finish it out of principle rather than fun.
In short the Movie for me was fun and light headed, the book was about a bunch of guys combating the threat of space bugs and some kind of manlove homoerotic paraphilia about military organization, ranks, ways of thinking , possible degrees, paths to take when you were an officer and how military units work together perfectly when everyone understands their job.
So movie and book are like ... what? I don't get , also despite some extremely original theories on why certain governments are doomed to FAILURE by the lack of proper discipline, most of the book was utter crap to me, I remember falling asleep during the self masturbatory notes on the ways ranks within the space army were labeled and the ways a career officer could progress in certain areas and others, despite being tougher and less well paying had way more responsibility but managed to make you a super human in leadership skills ... and on and on ... I got more amusement out of reading the manual for my new earphones than "ST the Book".
Woa, please tell me the other books he wrote, which I have on my TO READ list, are not like that ...
Or, considering I might have lost a lot of the "meaning" in translation , can anyone tell me why the book is so good? is it like the Tolkien vs Salvatore effect? I'd hate to say it but I feel im in the Salvatore team if the analogy works like that for ST. |
