PvP Pilgrimage
I am apparently too ignorant and generally stupid to figure out how to effectively get out of high sec. I have come up with the following idea. I am going to embark on several months of PvP Pilgrimage, at least until Odyssey?.. all I know continuing this Pilgrimage may be all I ever do in the game for as long as I am involved.
How does this work?
I have set up an in game channel called PvPilgrim. I will be in it whenever I am online and able. If you are interested in fighting me in some null sec location simply link that location into the channel. I will begin a PvPilgrimage to your location. I might make it quickly, I might die on the Way and have to start again. I may fail altogether. I am not likely to be real chatty about it in game...
Once you link the destination I will confirm that I am on my way or otherwise engaged. If you would like I will give you a jump count so you can continue whatever it is your doing while you wait for me to show up and die. If I fail on my Way, I will simply tell you that without any story. I may be able to start again at once, I may not.
Here is what you should know. I am on a PvPilgrimage, right?. I won't be carrying anything of particular value. I am likely to be flying a mostly T1 failfit frigate or maybe dessie. I won't ransom my ship or pod. Why would I? I don't know how to fight and cannot promise a 'good fight'. The chances of me winning a fight are slim to none. You do not stand to gain anything at all, but you also are unlikely to lose anything, if that is something you care about.
You should also consider that it is an open channel. If multiple people are in the channel or monitoring it then I might not be the only person to show up. I will be coming to fight you. No care about what other people may or may not do. If it is possible to set it up like a wormhole channel where only active speakers are visible I will do that... I have no idea if that is possible, the way it already is? Clueless.
I am not suggesting any rules of engagement whatsoever. What difference would it make if I did? Link your location. I will start upon the Way. I will be alone. Camp the gate to your system. Have a gang. Fly a T3. Pick a place impossible to get to... In the middle of a war? someone else's gate camp? cloak up, use EWAR... I don't care and what possible difference would it make if I did? I am not equipped to scan down wormholes so sadly w-space is out for now, though I hope to include it when I can.
If I can escape what is the almost certain destruction of my ship in these fights I will do my best to refit locally and fight you again if time and mutual interest allow this. If you feel that the fight offered you some modicum of entertainment you might allow me to do this. Up to you and does not matter to me. If you thought the entire thing was an utter waste of time I would encourage you to pod me if you can, requiring me to restart my Pilgrimage from whatever high sec hell hole my clone is in. My views on the matter of your choices and actions are of no real import. If you somehow actually lose to me I will at least strongly consider podding you, because if you lose to me you should quit the game.
I am likely to be clumsy, slow and awkward about all of this. If you have any interest at all drop into PvPilgrim and if I am there drop me a location. If I am not there and someone else is, please consider using the channel this Way with them. I will honor the first location I confirm, even if another location shows up as a waypoint since I am highly unlikely to survive more than one fight at a time. During my PvPilgrimage I do not plan to join any fleets or corporations (though I am toying with the idea of RvB since it would not be a conflict of interest in any way). I want nothing from you other than a location and a fight.
I am very open to any and all suggestions about how to make such a Pilgrimage system better, since as I have said I am utterly clueless. If you think it is the stupidest plan you have ever heard feel free to say so of course and equally free to simply not participate.
I plan to start this weekend, from Jita, which means overlap with Burn Jita as I understand it. No doubt not the best time.
If this should be posted elsewhere please let me know. |

Sounds like a great idea.
You should be able to set your channel up in delayed mode. I think that's what you wanted so that only talkers are displayed.
I find that without a good mob to provide one for them, most people would have no mentality at all. |

Dude... people are just gonna set up gate camps call you into fight and then kill you with out any real fight..
They dont care if you are of value, to most pilots kills are kills..... A rifter.. a shuttle or anything at all is just pretty explosions.
All you are doing is setting yourself up for more failure...
I wish you the best of luck, but when you get tired of dieing with out even get to target lock people send me an ingame mail, and even though you are fighting for the frogs right now, I may be able to take you into my corp and show you the ropes...

Yes I fully expect some of that. I also feel that is a part of the game I must learn to deal with, so fine. I also dare to imagine that some people will be amused by the model and participate in other ways. If I survive such encounters how much richer the experience, potentially.
For some ridiculously pretentious context to understand why do this rather than 'join a corp' you could google 'Guinea Pig B' or if you are particularly ambitious consider reading the huge, but vastly entertaining 'Musashi', by Yoshikawa.
Thank you all for the comments. |

just fit up some frigates, go to FW space and start looking for targets, you don't really need to make a big show of it.
frigate pvp is not hard to find in lowsec, and if you do what you're suggesting you will just get blobbed. |

Yes. I am likely to employ a kind of gaming algorithm to manage this, meaning you can probably do that twice or until I recognize the pattern. It might be a fun game for you, sort of like Lucy and Charlie Brown with the football, or the scorpion and frog fable played out.. Impossible for me to say. If the entire game is pvp, explicit or not, then any action you take will be a contribution to the intent of the PvPilgrimage in any case. Whether I enjoy this, learn from it, can tolerate it, etc. remains to be seen, which is the nature of learning and pilgrimages. It is unclear at the outset where they will take you, even if the ground seems well trodden.
To the comments suggesting alternatives, such as just flying around and finding fights, joining corporations to learn the ropes, etc. Yes, thank you. You are no doubt correct. I mean that earnestly. I am pretty stupid and a slow learner when it comes to these sort of things. I might also be asking a different question than you are answering. Hard to say.
Thank you again for the comments and suggestions. I hope to get started tonight once RL demands are satisfied. Tomorrow at the latest. |

As tempting as it is to set forth on this particular narrative blessed by attributions of slander, I do not believe I have committed the heinous act of which I am accused. To wit,Quote:I am going to embark on several months of PvP Pilgrimage, at least until Odyssey? Mightn't the construction indicate 'several' as a larger quantity than 'until Odyssey'? Fortunately for you there are much greater and more consistent sins to be found in my writing.

Tbh this isnt far from what larger alliances sometimes do to get fights. Expecting the spai, wanting and expecting intel to get back to someone on a roam for a fight.
Youll get blobbed sometimes sure. Other times youll have an interesting trip through space.
Chandaris had it right though. Fit a frig or destroyer and get into Faction Warfare space and warp to the complexes youll see and find a fight that way as well. Its fairly active and your bound to find fights that way as well.
Good luck. Strength isnt measured in numbers but in force of will. For if one motived willful individual stands many will fall around him that are weak.

Your post history seems to reveal a trend. At the risk of being trolled out by a one sentence, none reading wonder... I played WoW briefly, enough to max it out. Dint like it. I have never once played a console game. There is no doubt I am not needed here. Would suck if I were.
I will mark you down as 'not interested' then, shall I? Should you change your mind and wish to link me a fight location in PvPilgrimage of course I will accept if not otherwise committed. I cannot promise a 'good fight' as I am a complete noob, but I will show up and fight.
Went through several frigates and learned a lot tonight. Thank you for the invitations and fights. Much improved game experience for me. Hopefully I will be a more challenging opponent as time unfolds. "Those you see over there, with their long arms. If by blobbed you mean I am going to be be invited into a situation against overwhelming odds, then yes. Ambushed, tricked, lied to, etc. Of course. I am under the impression that is in great part the nature of the game. Currently one other pilot flying 'my lil pony' and throwing glitter is overwhelming odds, so I don't see that it matters. I am dead in all these encounters anyway. I am fighting, but i am dead. If you mean an actual blob with hundreds of ships, capitals and such and someone thinks it would be funny to drop me a link in the PvPilgrimage channel and call me into their roam? How epic would that be? 1 v 100? Yippee. Short, but all my fights are short. "Those you see over there, with their long arms. I suggest never honoring 1v1s or ransoms, always kill anyone you can, even if they ask you not to politely, even if their ship is afk at a gate and named PVE DO NOT SHOOT. If this way suits your temperament, enjoy. I did it for most of a year in Thrashers before joining up with groups of people. Look at killmails for what killed you, every loss is a lesson.
