The new tutorial is very well done and something that has been needed a long time to better help new players get started. I just started a new char the other day and saw it for the first time and it looks great!
Great job!

I have to agree. I recently started a new character to see what the 'new player experience' is like and I was impressed. By the end of the tutorial I was well-informed and well setup to start a life in Eve - I think I had about 250,000 ISK in my wallet, and that's before starting the second agent that you are referred to. I've been playing for over a year and it still taught me a couple of things that I didn't know.
When I compare it to the start I had - 1000 ISK and a Reaper to get you on your way; and all the tutorial consisted of was basically a quick lesson on how to target a veld rock and turn on your mining laser - it is a massive improvement. Congratulations to all involved.

Does that "Aura" (sp) remind anyone else of SHODAN, from System Shock?

Edited by: Skellibjalla on 16/09/2005 09:04:45 Thank you!
We are thoroughly glad you enjoyed it. You folks obviously understand the necessity of redoing this part of the game and the enormity of the task we had before us. Although a tutorial can never get close to introducing all of the possibilities EVE has to offer new players, we feel confident now that we supply everyone with a few leads/starting points to choose from. Everyone gets a glimpse of the world at large, so to speak
CCP has been aching for so long to get on this, and now that the step has been fully taken, we are determined to reach for perfection. Improvements are being worked on as we speak and when they are finished, the NPE team will continue to add some treats that will hopefully be to everyone's liking.

I've done it in english, it was great, better than the first one ! But many french players complained about a half english/french tutorial with bugs (when you put it in french) on the french forums of EVE fan websites.
What can you tell them about it ?
PS : Yes, french got the complaining skill at V when we born ;)

Admittedly it is a bit of a pain when you just want to use your alt. "I see you've died" popping up when you're desperately trying to warp your pod away isn't so welcome.
Is there a way of turning the tutorials off completely? Something in the prefs.ini?

You can turn the Tutorial on and off by hitting Esc and looking under the Reset settings (i think) tab.
Good Tutorial. Well Done!

Is there a newer tutorial than the one I did 2 months ago? I liked that one, except for the little detail of leaving everyone on with avoid podkilling zones setting (I have written "F10 / autopilot / uncheck avoid podkilling zones" in the rookie channel atleast 1000 times)
A real set of storyline missions in the beginning, spanning over 20 or so missions with courier, fighting, mining, trading and even production would still be nice though, to get new players a real feel for the game and what it offers, before they are left on their own.
I am currently running COSMOS missions, and I love them. Although my crow cant handle the tougher missions in kazka headquartesr, the ones I can handle are usually very fun. Maybe a COSMOS for new players could work as the storyline missions I mentioned earlier.

I want Aura to say stuff like, "you've lost a crow to a Atron...you suck" and then she can laugh really hard. then a red button will appear and it sais "click to flush Aura from your system." and you click it and aura is flushed. then you get Borealis as your new ship AI

Aura kinda reminds me of Andromeda where as Andromeda is a sentient computer that talk to everyone on board and such.
CCP if you want to put even more interaction with our ships computer in the game that's cool with me. :)
My Bro also said he like the Aura Tut.

Hey again!
The laugh... well, how could we resist? Aura is just helping you to get over the sting of the first podding. Just being "nice" in a sadistic way. If you check out carefully what Aura says in this short tutorial, I'm sure you'll find it has some pedagogical value for new players, even though it's snuck through the back door
PS. Mangus must be psychic or have in-house contacts - It's gonna take a while to do these Mang, but actually, they're one of the things that are coming your way.
