I found a belt that you cant see the ORE. I checked the scanner I can see the ORE items but they show no distance. I placed my scanner of 5,000 km and I see the roids in the scanner but with no distance. How does this happen and what can I do. -------------------------- Does it matter why, its when is more crucial!

set 15Š in scanner and play around with range. take a fast ship and approach the ore until you see it in overview,
this "hidden" belts where shown before EXODUS expension, overview had Range settings, now you need to use scanner for this, ore is only shown in overview so long its around 150km, its out of overview range thats it CEO of FAEX - currently inviting non-pirate-corporations to 0.0 - |

I think it works more like grids. You will see in the overview everything that is in the same grid as you. Which means you can sometimes see stuff that is 1000km away and not see something 100km away.

some grids can be really weird. I was once so close to the edge (without knowing it) that i lost 2 of my harv mining drones because when they were orbitting, they accidently went into the next grid. took me about 5 mins to work out why i was down to 7 drones instead of 9

Welcome to the world of Mining Barges! and Strip Miners. If you warped to a field thats no longer there, someone has eaten the entire belt.. and with barges its rather easily done (medium barge can eat a medium field in 6 hours (tested that one myself..))
hehe. Theres no such a thing as 'hidden fields' if you warped to it and cannot see anything within overview good chances are its been eaten. Find another belt. or go to another system. wait till u see half a dozen battleships and mining barges let loose on a field (will clean it of ore in a very short period of time..)

LOL, out in omist there were some hidden grid areas in belts with bistot that would keep a corp's mining op going for hours. It is all based on the grids, as described above, a belt can span several grids, and unless you are in the same grid, you won't see the roids. You set your scanner to something like 600k, do a scan, and if you see roids, then they are in adjacent grids. Once you bookmark them, they are yours, and generally nobody else will touch them. Be warned, rats will still spawn on you in hidden grid areas, they won't just spawn in the main grid.

i spotted some very wierd belts deep in 00 as well, i found one that was very wide, groups of rocks sitting 300-400 km away from each other. also indeed found belts that where totaly empty (and not stripmined). apart from this i had a system where i would rat but in one of these belt there never was a spawn, i sat in in for 40 (!!) minutes but still no spawn, very odd indeed. and i know a system that has only a single belt with 5 rocks in the entire system, not much maybe but the quality of those rocks still may be worth a visit.
all belts mentioned have the better high ends in them like bist, crok and merc.

Yep, the belt is in another grid and therefore not displayed in overview.
If you warp to a belt and there is nothing
- the belt is missplaced (hidden), - isnŠt there or - is mined out.
IŠve seen a few belts in 0.0 that were constantly empty, no roids, no npcs, no nothing. Sometimes they clean up the belts and scattered roids or parts of a belt are moved or hidden roids are gone.
They changed the npcs some time ago, so they will attack you even in another grid, iirc it was one of the castor patches early 2004.

if ya talking about High sec.. eg, 0.9 1.0 99% of the time the field has been stripped dry.. seen it happen during a day (can anyone say ****ing MACRO MINERS!!!!) although having 6 apocs 4 covs and about 10 noobs in frigs and 2-3 afk indys...
Fields vanish.. best example is Eystur (that ive seen) come in.. mined a belt 3 Retrivers (macro-ers) attacked it.. was gone in 2 hours.. and there wasnt ONE ROCK left in the system by downtime (from about 0400 - 1000) 6 hours.. andnot ONE rock left ANYWHERE in teh system :(

Fyi guys, there are no more hidden belts. They were the group of astroids that would "grow" out of the belt grid. CCP has changed this though by increasing the size of the grid I think.

Yes, there are still hidden parts of belts. I mine in them all the time.

These are off-grid asteroids and quite common in 0.0 space.
You'll find them by flying in their direction till you enter the right grid.
But, other then in the past, NPC's can spawn there or enter these grids.

Then what's the point of the hidden belts then?

Their are hidden belts all over, yes some do have roids from the main belt spawnning and growing out side of a grid. What I consider a Hidden belt is that the cluster of roids is in a half moon shape, I've rarely seen (in empire) that are not half moon shaped. In 0.0 space I have around 32 diffrent hidden belts BM in 5 diffrent systems, I have seen 1 belt only that spaned 3 diffrent grids in 0.0 even that stayed in a big half moon shaped.
I dont remeber what 1.0 system it was but when they exspanded the grid size I found one belt above another in the same shape as the main belt. Yes rats do spawn at the hidden belts but CCP stated that they will be rare spawns I belive it was put in some time before T2 was introduced when this change was made.

Pointless? Priceless is more like it!
When pirates jump into a system, they warp to the main belts looking for you. If you are off the grid mining, you'll have more time to notice them and get to safety. It's saved me quite a few times.

well first try the scanner at 360 deg so you can round you totally and then play with dist. but the belt might be eaten by a mining barge or mining corp

What are the chances that this "hidden belt" happens in high sec?

So these 'hidden belts' are really just a continuation of a regular asteriod belt that has grown past its grid boundries?
So to find them, you take your scanner and try to see the ends of hte current belt?

I've seen entirely misplaced belts in 0.0. Some by as much at 2,000 kilometres or more. Requires taking a MWD frig to and finding them..and making a set of BMs for the various hidden belts in a system, as they often occur multiple times in the same system where one already exists.
I've even seen a very strange belt that was mirrored...as in, it was exactly duplicated about 50-70km straight up. As you popped a roid in one belt..it'd vanish in the other. Yet both belts could be targetted and mined, so it wasn't a graphic glitch.

thats eve for you more glitches than anything else.. but we love it anyway :) the glitches just add teh extra few laughs at the end of the day :)
One time after a server crash (the entire thing went down, no warning etc) i came back in to find i had my 4 asteriods locked up, btu coudlnt mine em :( i could lock up 4 OTHER rocks.. but not the first 4... :(
I had to warp out to clear the lockup mess :( Provided a nice few laughs that did :P

Dead end system in 0.0, noone within 10 jumps, i warp to a belt, and...
.. there are a spawn of belt pirates, without a actual roid belt to guard. I check again, warp out, warp back in.. still nothing but pirates.
I guess some evil macrominers came out here and stripped this one belt completely clean while the rest had 6000+ crockite and bistot roids in it.
There ARE hidden belts in EVE, odd belt placement compared to grid boundaries can have some odd effects. This post is my personal opinion. It does not represent the standpoint of the HUN Corporation or that of the Imperium Alliance in any way Now in bold for all those who have trouble reading it |
